I Personally loved it the immersion when just roaming around the map was so much better.

Gunplay felt more intense & driving in certain vehicles was good.

Overall I Would not say better than third person but for me easily on par and better in some ways.

Occasionally, it's a good distraction, other than that, not really. First person in any game just takes me out of it and makes it less immersive imo, I like to see my character on screen and see their actions and animations, that's much more immersive to me.

I think that should REALLY fix the first person driving, Make it more like Midnight Club LA. They had it perfect in that game!

I disliked it.

Not because I don't enjoy FP itself, but I don't see any important benefit gameplay wise in GTA. If I'm not using it other than the benefit of getting immersion and to watch detailed graphics in close up, then there's no meaning in using such a feature, for me.

Others may like it, but I am not interested in having a feature which brings nothing new to the gameplay because I'll be spending maximum time in third person anyways.

If Rockstar makes first person action as appealing and interesting just like other FPS games, then I'll start liking it, and having it in all future installments.

It adds to the challenge as you tend to be disoriented especially if you're used to the old viewpoint, but I prefer third-person myself as I'm more used to said viewpoint with open world games.

Heh, if I want a first-person, open world experience, that's what real life is for, right? :p

First person is overhyped. It existed in III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS for tears and nobody cared, and when they decide to add it in GTA V, everyone loses their minds.

Yes, but they should really improve it when it comes to flying aircrafts.

I really wished I could see the Road and Gauges properly!

Seriously, the Steering Wheel blocked the view of the Gauges, and I felt we were 'sitting' too low.

It's not too bad if you have your controller set-up at default, but I changed mine to Standard FPS 2 so that I could use R1 to run and FP is completely unusable. I've never liked FP in purely driving games and GTA is no exception

Now that you mentioned it, the gauges, while working, are barely even accurate and mostly exist to account for the new viewpoint.

First person is useful for someone like me who likes to explore the environment for the little details and such. There's some things that'll be hard to catch playing in third person. It was a welcome addition to me. Hope it returns in the next one.

I've only ever used it to get a closer look at certain details, but they should definitely keep it and improve on it. I don't see why not when it's completely optional.

i like it that they implemented it, but they did it in the wrong way imo.

when i tried out First Person mods for every other gta game it felt more immersive (even if it was more buggy) because it did not feel like a first person shooter. i really liked it that you dont see your hands normally, only if you sprinted or used weapons

I liked the addition of First Person to GTA V as an option for players to choose although I don't tend to use it often and prefer the classic third person view which is likely just due to the fact I am used to it from the previous GTA Games. I'd certainly welcome it as an option for future games in the series but I do think that there are several improvements that could be made to make it better and more useful to the player. As already mentioned in the thread, some aspects of the view such as when driving could have been improved by changing the positioning of the player or working on the car details such as the gauges to make them more visible and useful to the player.

HeySlickThatsMe

it was good but some things are lame

for example:
*police bike and sovergein driveby animation is lame
*Helicopter side driveby anims are lame
*Sawn off driveby reloading anim is lame
*We need more FOV , i enjoyed it with FOV mod
*Some anims have "cam locks" which looks weird

for example sitting in yacht hot tub

Yes, if done properly, it immensely adds to the immersion, especially in singleplayer.

GTAV was a step in the right direction but as usual Rockstar was lazy about it. I hate the unrealistic way the characters are hunched over when you look in a mirror in first person. That's stupid looking. Game should have never shipped like that. Second, the FOV is wayyyyyy too small. In real life you can see MUCH more than just the very front of the windshield when you're driving a car. You have zero peripheral vision so it makes actual driving and combat in 1st person pointless.

That being said, if R* were to do it better in GTA 6 i'd be happy. im not one of those fools who sout GTA ISNT COD!!!!!

GTA has always been about immersion into a world, and first person really helps with that.

I actually haven't played the current gen GTA V, so I can't comment on it's first person mode. But, I do like the option of being able to switch between third and first person at will. I think that's a good option because some people prefer first person, while others such as myself prefer third person.

I think first person view was a good feature. They can definitely improve it though.

Mister Pink

First person is a good curious feature. GTA used to have a first person static view before. That was in Vice City. Maybe I haven't explored it so much but I wouldn't miss it if it was not in GTA Next.

We have to remember, GTA was mostly appealing because of what it is not for what it is not. I don't consider GTA an online FPS. However, you could argue it is now. I'm all for adding features etc but I wish the time and effort gone in to that could have gone in to a second city or some proper stealth or combat system.

I would like Rockstar to hone-in and improve things like the combat system and police system to make the core-gameplay up-to-date and more appealing again. I think the idea of 3rd-person in an open-world is endless and always appealing. However, while they've been making the game look very pretty, focusing on Online, I think Rockstar are neglecting the core gameplay. I think character ability and police system needs to be revamped. Spending time outside your car needs to be fun again... gone way off topic.. .sorry. :(

It was OK but it was awkward and the head didn't move smoothly. It was like we were watching the game through the Go-Pro strapped to the protag's head.

I have nothing against it being included in future, but I'll probably not use it much. Fun for a few hours, pretty much. GTA has always been about that third person view - the idea that you're controlling a specific character within a world. Rather than inhabiting the character from within and seeing through their eyes, you're seeing the world around them as they're in it. If that makes sense.

So if we see it return, fair enough, but it shouldn't ever be the default view, I think.

V's FPV is poorly designed, and I dislike it alot. If the next GTA has an improved FPV, then I'll change my mind, but until then, no.

First person is a great extra feature for those who enjoy it, but having different attributes like swimming speeds depending whether you use FPV or not is an unacceptable imbalance.

its a cool feature but it needs tweaking in next gta as things like gunplay driving and flying sometimes felt way to jerky to feel comfortable or immersive

It was definitely janky, but then again, first tries always are. The first cars weren't too great, the atari 2600 was a lot of fun but had only room for very basic games, the virtual boy was an absolute arse, but from what I hear, the HTC vive, oculus rift, and playstation VR are actually alright, even if they're still in the early phases.

Point being, I think that it works well enough for an optional camera angle, and hell, it was downright good for being rockstar's first attempt at a first person camera in the history of all of their games. And I definitely think it should be in the next game, with lots of tweaking and improvements.

Tbh most open world games on the scale of GTA should have it as an option, like in Fallout and Elder Scrolls.

I'd like First Person better if Rockstar didn't sacrifice things like vehicle roof deformation in order to implement it.

Yeah it's definitely going to be a lot better feature next game. It's still fun to go in first person and go on a cruise or walk about.
