The Smells of Los Santos & GTAO

Okay, this is a thread discussion to offer a break from the barrage of DLC topics revolving around the new F&F update.

It's simple. Just describe a specific place, vehicle, person/character, weapon, or whatever else you think might have a particularly interesting smell in GTAO.

I was playing earlier today and thought about how spanky fresh the new Maze Bank office looked, and wondered how good it must smell in there.
The plush leather chairs, the cool crisp air conditioning, the leather-bound books and smell of rich mahogany. Mmmm....

But then, I left there and traveled around, ending up in the Ammu Nation nearby. I looked at the fellow working there and thought, "Man, I bet he smells like motor oil and bum." Moving over to purchase armor, I got the sense that the armor probably had that "new backpack" smell of polyester and plastic.

Later, I wound up down at the docks to pick up my Tug to sell some crates. Looking around at all the machinery on the dock, and seeing the rusted hull of the Tug and the barnacles growing on the sides, I imagined the whole area smelled like rotting seaweed, dead fish, and diesel fuel.

So, again, for a breath of fresh air from the current onslaught of DLC topics, I just thought it would be fun to just be a little silly, yet still be relevant to GTAO.

Hope it's fun! Cheers! :)

Still making these unconventional kinds of threads eh fw3? Some things never change.

Something i have always wondered is how my old guns smell, i mean, i think i have probably had some guns since i unlocked them, for example, i have never dropped my Carbine since i bought it for the first time, my character gives no maintenance to it, and i use it very often, so it's gotta have some weird smell at this point.

My grandfather was in WW2, and when he passed away I inherited one of his rifles. It was a beautiful relic of a time gone by, but it hadn't been fired, cleaned, or maintained for years.

You can still smell the tanning oil of the cracked, leather strap, wood oil used on the stock and the gun oil used on the metal barrel. Disassembling the main ammo housing, you can smell traces of solvent he used to remove tiny fiber buildup and keep the inner barrel clean. I'm not a gun owner, so I don't know the actual terms, but honestly, this thing is not only amazing looking, but the smell really captures the essence of it's history.

Cheers! And I hope the "unconventional" threads are welcomed! :)

(not the actual gun we own, but the same weapon. it's called the Japanese Arisaka and it still has the "mum" flower on it. Very cool.

I can't wait for the technology to evolve to the point we can smell stuff from a tool attached to your console.

The best way to kill people without even wasting your time going to their location or sending rockets to them.

The new hate message would be people farting into it.

I always love the smell off coffee even though I don't like it's taste. So I hope that my office would smell like it, but I haven't spotted a coffee machine around so maybe it smells like green juice? What ever that may smell like.

Just waiting for some jaded player to say the whole of GTAO smells like bullsh*t :D

Anyway, on topic:

A seemingly obvious one here - on entering the gloomy interior of Los Santos Customs down in La Mesa the unmistakable smell of engine oil greets customers and employees alike, mixed with stale exhaust fumes and the occasional whiff of gasoline. The garage is always warm inside and between the echoing bangs and clatter of tools a tinny radio provides a backdrop of Kenny Loggins' dulcet tones as he presents music approved by many a middle-aged male on Los Santos Rock Radio (some aural sensations mixed in there for you too as a bonus - because I'm feeling generous).

At those times of year when the Grapeseed weed farms get fertilized you can smell the manure all the way to Harmony! :)

@ColecoA description like that can only come from experience in real life! Brilliant scenario and.... snfffff... I can actually begin to smell Kenny Loggins! lol! :)

The smell of weed, dorritos, and mountain dew fill the air. It's time to take shelter.

Guilty! I forgot the dust too - so much dust. Laying thick over piles of old tyres banished forever to the darkened corners.

Additionally, I think Kenny Loggins would smell of strong aftershave, Martini and optimism

I load up my save-game as Franklin, walk outside, and immediately the smell of chlorine from his mansions pool fills the air...

Downtown Cab Company. Smells like motor oil, exhaust fumes, cheap vinyl, duct ape, puke, detergent & sweat during those hot summer days.

My Baller Vogue in the other hand, still got that new car smell & fresh leather since it never stepped foot(wheel?) outside a climate-controlled garage.

Oh look.

vVwseu1.png

I guess my office smells nice then.

I can't possibly begin to fathom how walking into Trevor's trailer would smell and how much damage it would do to the unlucky bastard that did.

Paleto Bay probably smells like McChicken Burgers 24/7

That's the core reason for my buying a house here.

Despite the posh setting, both the men's and ladies' locker rooms in LSGC have a very distinct "gym-and-old-socks" odor ... :O

Oh man... now that's just wrong. This scene, below, may be one of the nastiest things I've ever seen in a video game.

The smell, alone, would make anyone sick. LOL!!

LOL Great thread! I remember places and people easily by their smell so this is fantastic!

It's easy to locate a Burger Shot since the inside of my nose gets greaser the closer I get, the smell of grade G beef and pink slime heating up in steam trays makes me salivate.

When passing by Michaels house I get a wiff of stale sperm, don't ask how I know what that smells like...

Also, the guy at my corner store smells like high quality hummus. Makes me want to rub a pita all over him.

And Ron.... Ugggh, does that guy ever brush his teeth? He has horrible caca breath!

Lester, I find smells like he wears new clothes that he didn't wash before wearing, you know that funky new clothes smell?

Overall I'm happy I'm not the only one that can appreciate the varying scents of LS, So many little details we often overlook / undersmell. Great thread fw3 :)

Walking under the Del Perro Pier smells like saltwater, rusted fish hooks, and used syringes. Really a nasty place if you ask me.

Lester definitely has that odd smell you only get from hospitals and old folks homes. That sterile yet weirdly fecal smelling smell.

Forgot to add a very important one...

The stench of jet fuel exhaust lingering in the air, it's unbearable in LS, there's far too much air traffic to fully enjoy most of the other scents near the city.

One more reason to limit jet use in LS ;)

It is for sure a definite far cry from what we normally see on here. I view fw3's threads as a good thing, personally.

Anyway, here goes mine:

AkqNn0X.jpg

I could imagine Stoner Jesus here on the Del Perro Pier probably doesn't smell that great. Probably like he hasn't bathed in a while and probably smells like stale pot. Maybe he bought weed from Barry.

AJfk80G.jpg

I could also imagine that the trio of Space Rangers out on Vinewood Boulevard would not smell too good either. Probably like B.O. and sweat from being in those costumes for hours on end, and

with all the supposed non-gay, messy, sweaty sex they supposedly have which would produce B.O. among other things if they chose not to bathe for a few days. :p

And the smell of vaporized metal from welding and metal cutting.

The first smell I recall from GTA Online was in front of Eclispe Towers, a rich aroma of burning gasoline, burning oil, burning tires, burning paint, burning upholstery, burning asphalt, detonated C4, cordite, nitrocellulose, nitroglycerine, petroleum jelly, RPG propellant, burning meat (not steak), cortisone, soiled underwear, and, as mentioned above, Doritios.

:p
