Man GTAO has changed

I'm sure everyone knows this, but it really has.

I have played since week 1, was one of the few assholes who managed to get into GTAO even when the servers wouldn't let anyone on. So needless to say I'm one of the oldest residents of GTAO.

Anyways I was going over with some friends the other day about who much has changed, did a whole speech and everything. I mean people can sh*t on R* has much as they want but I can't think of a game that has changed as much with this sort of lasting power (well besides a few MMOs that manage to pull it off).

That being said there are things I miss about the old days.

Here are some of them

Seeing your friend call the mechanic only to have him get ran over and his car stolen.

Spawning out of RR only to be killed by the sentinel guy.

Driving around in a Entity XF backshooting people for the lulz.

climbing on the back of a duneloader and tearing apart the city streets.

Helicopters actually being a threat.

And of course the money modders and crazy amount of money gltiches, not just the dupes either. There were so many better ones then duping lol

Hell I even look back at the first GTAO Christmas, you know the one where the god mode players really ruled the streets?

So many good times, but so different it's almost like it was another game entirely.

Someone should really make a tribute video for who GTAO has changed, because it's worth noticing.

What memories do you guys have about "the good ol days"?

You sound like you're doing a speech at a funeral.

I swear the game sold like a million copies in less than a day, so being 'one of the oldest residents' along with millions of other people doesn't make you special lol.

I skimmed over that oldest resident part, but I too am one of the day one players.

Wasn't Obey CEO until a couple of months later though. I'm thinking early 2014?

I remember taking a day off work and waiting for GTA 5 preorder to drop through letter box back when I had a 360.

However, GTAO is so much better now. It has evolved into so much more than it once was.

I've noticed in the past week the number of griefers in free mode has dropped, hope this is a sign of things to come but once the novelty of FAF&F wears off, people will resort back to it.

I've been playing since launch as well and the game has certainly has changed a ton but I'm somebody who always preferred Free Roam and always wondered why R* didn't do more with it.

When VIP and Free Roam events came I was happy but I wanted even more depth. Now, with FAFF, it truly feels like the potential I've seen all this time is being tapped into at last. For me, the good old days have only just begun!!

I only have a few:

-No Marksmen Rifle;

-No invisible clothes;

-No armoured Kurumas everywhere;

-No Hydras everywhere;

-No excess of military sh*t in the game;

-No homing launcher(I could fly my Vestra in peace);

-Knowing that last gen could still received DLCs;

Although I prefer the game now because:

-Heists;

-Nerf tanks(I hate them)

-Homing rocket launcher(I can fend off tanks and other assholes with a low level character now);

-The Lab FM;

-Ghost races;

-T20, Stirling GT, Casco, BlackFin, Osiris...;

-Ability to wear any saved outfits on the fly;

-Mission payout are much better now, making it easier to earn money with them;

It kinda does, considering most people who bought the game way back when don't even play anymore.

I remember having the Buffalo. Ah, good times. GTAO on PS3 brings back a lot of good memories with my friends.

I miss when my actual, real life friends played. They all moved on well before heists (not all of us were that patient). All you interwebs folk can be cool and all but there's nothing better than kicking the ass of a good friend or driving into a gun fight to rescue one that's outnumbered.

GTA:O was a cluster f*ck of terrible in hind sight, almost unplayable in comparison to where it is now. I will not miss:

Nerfed payouts after month one. I remember the cost of my ammo exceeding the payout.

1 garage / property.

Disappearing progress. For the first few weeks that sh*t was bad. To this day my character is about 7 levels lower than is indicated (don't get me started on the two characters that simply disappeared). The only saving grace is my resetting levels were also resetting my bank account. One day I noticed I had purchased an Entity and logged off, came back, level was reset, bank account back to pre car purchase, Entity still in the garage. I tested it out with another car, then another, then another. Before the night ended I had a 10 car garage filled with Supers and it didn't cost me a dime. You couldn't sell Supers back then and they're all in my first garage to this day...

Tanks were unstoppable and when you respawned it was directly next to where you last died (give or take a hundred feet). You K/D lovers would lose your sh*t now if you saw how bad spawn kills were with that thing.

No interaction menu...or maybe there was one but it was compeletey worthless. My memory is failing. Either way, it you wanted anything done it was through your phone or you had to actually visit your apartment (at least there was a reason to go to one).

The old "billionaire days" were interesting. I stopped playing for a month when negative bounties became a thing. Kill the wrong person, lose all your cash. I did my best to be a legit player and avoided most public lobbies, fearing that my legit cash would be taken from me.

Then came the money wipe. I had been gifted millions upon millions and refused to spend it. After a couple of weeks of no response from Rockstar I blew my millions of gifted money on worthless Pegasus sh*t...Because they let us keep what we bought with the gifted cash and just took our money, I was left with nothing in the bank and an entire supply of vehicles I haven't used to this day...

Some people hate just to hate. I may be a day one player, but there's not a chance in hell I'd re-live that sh*t.

I noticed lobbies are a lot more friendly. There's not as many battles going on in the center of the city anymore

Tank in my garage. I could have it delivered to me by the mechanic. Also tanks were bad4ss before they were nerfed.

I was also one of the lucky few who were able to get into GTA Online on release day back in October '13. I had so much hope for this and there was so much potential. The billionaire days were amazing. You think hunting bounties are exciting? Imagine how thrilling it is chasing down a guy who's bounty is $10,000,000,000. Now that's an intense chase. Sadly since then it's all been downhill. Yachts were a nice novelty, as are Offices, but the core gameplay is deely flawed. The streets feel more like Escape from New York or Mad Max than Heat or Boyz in the Hood. Too much emphasis on PVP chaos, not enough emphasis on structured team play. Now combine that with the Freemium push and terrible matchmaking and networking and you get the disaster that is GTAO. is it still fun occasionally? Sure, but the wasted potetnial is heartbreaking.

Solid Scorpion

The games changed a hell of allot, for the better imo.

I've also never known of an online game on consoles hold peoples attention so long after release.

Most people bugger off within 5mins of a new COD releasing but GTAO has a pretty large and loyal playerbase.

Allot of people are day 1 players like you, myself am also a D1.

I too was fortunate to not have connection issues, nor loose my character like many did on those early weeks, and when R* apologized to the community and doled out $500k to all who played I was like thanks for the extra cash!

I had already purchased Eclipse towers and said to my crew, now we.'really ready for heists!

Haha.... 18 months later R* was ready for heists too!

How many of you farmed the 30sec Rooftop Rumble and Replayed or made millions during Crew Challenges?

But yes, the game has evolved as R* states in the launch trailer. Hopefully, more robust content continues to reach the community until a Gta VI launch.

Oh yeah what about..... Upgrading street cars to the max then giving them to friends so they can them for easy money!

Or, the very missed free roam events like: Armoured Trucks, Smuggler Planes and Special Crate Drops!?

I also miss Johnny on the Spot actually showing up too.

It's not the time for reminiscing about the 'old days' of GTA online. We can do that in ten or twenty years from now. GTA online is still very much alive and kicking.

yea i do remember a lot of those things mentioned some i miss some im happy is gone. but to the people who said it has been peaceful lately have not been in my lobbys. yesterday i was driving my ceo to his buisness and there were a lot more people there. we got out of the car to go inside the second we got out we were shot and killed. we did nothing wrong or had any cargo. same thing after we dropped off our cargo some group came and attacked us again. also there are a lot more jets and tanks out lately. it feels impossible to do anything without getting attacked.
