Considering that they do not get paid much if at all for helping you jaunt about los santos. You would find it in your best interest to pay them in ceo and side missions. Between crate collections (be it with a group or alone) it would be a good idea to run a headhunter or hostile takeover between pick ups. This way, if you are alone you balance out crate costs. If in a group. You get that and your group gets a paycheck. In summary: you could negate the cost of crates and pay your crew at the same time. Everybody wins and everybody gets paid.
