Silencer has no effect on damage?

Early today I was checking gun attachment files on OpenIV and saw this:

Thats the Silencer attachment for the Assault Rifle and as you can see the "DamageModifier value" is set to 1.0, which leads me to believe damage is untouched, I checked all the other silencers in the files and all have a 1.0 modifier.

I also did some testing at close range to check if the silencer affected weapon base damage and it didn't.

Also did some max range test and range damage drop off testing, because I had a theory maybe the silencer would only affect damage at long ranges, the testing is here

From what I have seen from the testing I'm 99.9% sure the silencer doesn't affect the gun max range and 99% sure it doesn't affect damage dropoff at range either.

My sugestion is to just put the silencer in all the guns

Pretty helpful post if you ask me. I've never had silencers on my weapons because I thought that the damage would be affected. Cool to know someone out there is doing actual tests. Keep up the good work!

Actually I believe it decreases damage by one damage point, so instead of 26 damage, it'll do 25.

 

I believe it shows that on the gun stats thread from a long time ago.

I used the light sniper and couldnt find any differences in its range, I could still 1HKO NPCs from one side of the airport runaway to the other (when the NPC models are not even rendering anymore) being it silenced or not

 

I'll try to see if it affects the damage dropoff or not.

been using silencer on all my guns since the start. never had any issue with it taking more bullets to kill/damage.

i dont do deathmatches a lot so i dont bother

even in the rare cases i need it, i got a supressed heavy shotgun for more efectivly doing the deliver EMP heist setup with....and my special carbine gets auto equiped with a supressor anyhow
