Help! Can I keep mods after a new update?

Hi guys. Clearly, I'm new to modding on PC, so please forgive this potentially noobish issue.

 

Naturally, I use OpenIV to get all my mods installed and most of them are through the update.rpf file inside the mods folder. Whenever there's a new update, OpenIV prompts me to replace the old file with the new one, and as such, I lose the mod data I've incorporated.

 

How can I add the new update.rpf file to the mods folder without losing all of the mods I added and be forced to re-add them all over again?
