Crazy how one single update changed the entire game....

Does it seem like we are playing a different game? It doesn't feel like I am playing GTAO anymore. With this new update I find myself in the office a lot and running around fetching things.

I took an hour break and resumed to the usual deathmatches and killing spree and it felt right again.

Sessions now involve players being part of an organization and there seems to be a gentleman's agreement to not mess and destroy each others' crates. I have driven by players and they have driven by me with cargo and nobody has tried to destroy them. The CEO work is another story since people are still coming after people.

This update made the game less violent since its counterproductive to destroy an organization's cargo and the time is better spent fetching cargo than destroying.

Does anyone feel like this has suddenly became a different game?

Yeah, CEO missions is something pretty different.

I personally like it and it's good that there's option for solo and grouped players.

Heists are still my favorite but they have no solo option so it's more limited especially when your friends are offline.

You must have been in my lobby last night or you may be right OP. I spent about 3 hours in a pretty friendly session full of CEOs doing their own thing. It was actually awesome, we even got to help each other along the way. Definitely felt different, a little more civil but not too much.

These are the stories I like too hear about freeroam. Maybe just maybe this can change the way umm naw I must be high thinking freeroam can be anything other than a total sh*t.

I hope I'm wrong

Yeah the gentleman code actually seems to be a thing.

If you play in a small lobby with only other solo CEO's no one will bother you, everyone just wants to do their thing and collect crates.

It's great.

I had that experience yesterday and it was some of the most fun I've had in this game.

My thoughts exactly from OP. Unbelieavable how much the game transformed. Earlier I didn't bother with changing sessions, but now IF i get a bad lobby, I will. Game seems to be really great now.

Sorry, I couldn't help it :D

But yes, I totally agree - it's nice to have a little bit more in terms of Freemode objectives and a little less boredom-fuelled destruction in GTAO.

We had a lobby, four and four, two groups.

Group A, us, was going well.

Group B, decided to roll on us as we were entering our office in a Armed Insurgent. They didn't shoot first, but one of us from group A did.

We spent roughly two hours fighting these guys.

Went into game chat and came to a mutual agreement that we were in the wrong, and became friends. Weird how things work.

Once you find a lobby that has a gentleman's agreement going on it is great.

You do get the odd loose cannon but they can be dealt with easy enough. I've found the sessions I've been in have had 2 or 3 other organisations all going about our business quietly. Sometimes a non vip player joins. They tend to either join an organisation (either thier own or via an invite) or leave. Then you get the odd one who sticks around and does thier own thing and bothers nobody.

It's just getting into these sessions that can be frustrating. But a few session swaps, couple of kicks and messages stating peaceful intent and things are OK.

Yes there are still lobbies where it is business as usual, but if I land on one to begin with,I leave. I will find a quieter lobby at some point.

It definitely has changed things a bit. How long it lasts remains to be seen but I'm enjoying it for now.

Gentlemen code!? I have not experienced that! All i have is people laying proximity mines outside of the warehouses and offices! What lovely "gentlemen" they are.

The way I saw it, the game felt it was missing something.

GTAO's core was disjointed and offbalance, In free roam we are characters, we could hold guns, drive cars, boats and fly planes and helicopters and change our appearance, play a couple of bad minigames, but was really it - quite limited and static.

We needed (and still need) more ways of interacting with the world in a meaningful way, in freeroam. The contact jobs, deathmatches and heists are basically dreams that happen seperately from freeroam, which is ok, as long as 'the other side' of GTAO is balanced, which (freeroam) wasn't/isn't. Thus it is great to see this new update give us the ability to go out and acquire actual stuff. I'm sure more 'not-always-violent' gameplay enriching content will follow.

FAFF is basically chapter 2 or 3 of the Scarface update, Mansions will obviously come later ;)

Wow, I'm still attacked at random as much as I ever was, difference is, not everyone is chasing after the same VIP group anymore, because there are a few.

I've joined in with a couple of CEOs or groups and even ran my own VIP a handful of times, but I still get more cash doing an LTS.

Glad it's working for some people though. It's only taken about 2 years and 8 months.

Really? Every session I played in consisted of multiple 4 player-organizations and everyone doing their jobs and not interfering. I believe everyone knows how much work is done fetching the crates so they just leave each other alone. I even had guys message me when I'm coming their way if I was friendly.

It's weird because everyone seem to have one common goal and that is to get crates. They don't even want to waste time destroying someone's crate because that time can be spent getting their own. It's pretty surreal.

Then you have a couple of low level players on the bottom of the list that would ask to take part in the crate missions.

I notice on the bottom left there are very few....player A obliterated player B...sniped...dominating...etc...etc....

It really has been a different game. I am curious to see how long this last.

A good example is when I was selling my cargo and was in the big plane. I had 10 drops to make and their was a jet within my vicinity. He just floated there and watch me. Seriously...he didn't even want to shoot me out of the sky and that was a 500k load. Maybe he thought it was cool seeing packages get dropped to the flare sites.

It's a nice change of pace for me and my friends, once you've done near enough everything the game has to offer I.E crim mastermind and the elite challenges, the game got boring quickly. This update made me want to play again :)

I've still yet to see this happening...

Been in Free Aim lobbies since the update went live and and its been nothing but absolute Warzones and last night it was the worst I've ever seen it with Organizations declaring absolute War on each other, just to prevent each other from collecting their crates; with Associates and CEO's getting their Jets and Tanks and just shooting each other to kingdom come and back again...

8 hours of straight non-stop Organization Warfare...

I try to comment that its better for CEO's to work together, to keep the session calm, so they can make money; and they curse me out and stuff..

When I want a break from this CEO stuff, I'll find a lobby that isn't all about orgs and delivering cargo and go back to my usual killing spree. If there are some delivering, I'll leave them alone. Trouble is, I'm more than likely going to be kicked if I'm doing PvP with associates/CEOs that aren't bothering with cargo.

Yes, it's like playing a different game but only if you want to play differently. All that old stuff is still there. Personally I appreciate more stuff to do that's kinda chill.

Was in a lobby before a lone griefer arrived, shot a couple people, blew up my crates.. I called my Hydra, got to the docks only to find another guy getting in his Hydra, we exchanged thumbs up and went for a ripping session then kicking him out. It's a new world..

Yes, I felt the same thing. It was weird--I was flying a buzzard in FM (something I never would have previously considered before) and flew inches from another Buzzard. Neither of us fired on each other and no one else fired on me. This never would have happened a week ago.

The questions are, of course, is this better or worse and will it last? I am sure there are varying opinions on this...

This is well put. And for some reason, even though the actual activities really mirror old missions (drive over here, pick something up, survive attacks, deliver goods), it feels different to me because I can pick up a tangible item and stick it in a warehouse I own. Old missions had this weird disconnected feeling because you were doing something for someone else and just got a stack of cash. There was no "next" step other than to do another disjointed unrelated mission. And of course just the possibility of going up against other players adds a surprise element to this game that keeps it fresher. I was just about to pull into my warehouse when a jet blew me up yesterday. While it was a little frustrating, just knowing that this COULD happen keeps you on the edge of your seat in a way it never would have before when you were about to compete a mission for the nth time and you knew you were close to finishing it and the NPC's were about to give up. Don't get me wrong, there are some things they could have done better, it isn't perfect, but not only has the general feel of the game changed, but these pickups and deliveries feel completely different from anything else in the game. They feel organic.

I'd have much preffered them to go down the heists route further and lead us into being criminals rather than having us being ceo's of a corporation.

I want to be the leader of a criminal empire and feel like it. I don't really feel like that when I have an office and a secretary and spend time puzzling of interior decorations.

I'm liking the new system it's a lot of fun. Only thing that's not fun is being ganged up on when transporting shipments, so you have to pick and choose opportunities.

Everytime I ask another ceo if they are friendly I get voted to be kicked from the lobby which sucks.

I have no motivation to greif crate deliveries. Seems like it's players trying to get paid vs. Rockstar trolling us out of our money. Fight and go broke or peace and get rich.

doubly well put... if that can be said.

It's starting to remind me a little of another game / mod I love, Epoch mod for ArmA. It's starting to have the same open world feel with missions and a real PvP & PvE survival aspect.

I'm still on the fence about forcing players into public lobbies but I'm starting to think it wasn't a bad idea. It seems to be rallying all the PvE players in a way I didn't ever expect in GTAO.
