Is there a way to join a public session alone?

Oh this MTU thing did it perfectly for me too. But can you play with friends (as in them sending me an invite) or do I have to switch it back and forth?

I've tried the MTU at 800, it worked but I tried to do a race inbetween crates, it would only offer me solo races. It's good if you want to only do vip solo stuff but I imagine changing the settings everytime you wanted to mix up the cool down with a quick race would become tedius.

Set the MTU back to automatic and got into public sessions again straight away, so for PS4 users this is 100% the best way to do it for now.

 

I did briefly have about 6 people join a lobby this morning, but I started a new one and managed a good 6 hours solid with no interuptions.

 

Over $2 million done over the week since the DLC launched as a very casual player, I'm happy with that.

Not really, if you saturate the bandwidth then the sh*ttiness of the multiplayer session system takes care of the rest.

 

I have 52Mbit with <5ms ping and I can do it with a few YT streams, especially (and this gets overlooked) if I head to Eclipse Towers or some other place with multiple other players.

 

(I don't though. I prefer small but active lobbies).

A little off topic but with regards to the MTU settings, can it go higher than 1500? That's what mine was on before I lowered it to 800, and if lowering it will leave you on your own, will raising it possibly fix the "everyone left" issue that alot of people get when they don't want to?

Set it to 578 and no one will be able to join for more than a second ever.

Yes, so many people say that, but I tell ya - I have tried finding new sessions 20 times in a row without getting one where I was alone (PS4).

 

It's not a problem any longer, though.

Having a strict NAT type helps. I find that my chances of dropping into empty lobbies significantly increases when my NAT is strict.

NAT Type 3 is the "strict" type for those of you wondering. You won;t be able to be matched up with hardly anybody except other NAT Type 3 connections which is not what you want for gaming so practically no one uses it.

 

This has to be set from within your access point (modem/router) and I am reasonably positive your ISP can restrict your ability to connect via certain types as well.

You are both wrong.

If you have broadband internet (who doesnt nowadays?) it won't matter at all unless you can exceed the bandwidth entirely to the point that your router has to pick and choose which traffic gets through and the rest gets queued up, most hosts are not going to feed you video or torrents anywhere near fast enough to do that, and gaming takes up relatively little bandwidth.

 

What matters is how crappy your router/modem is. If it cannot handle high traffic, then you can lag out quickly. If you have a very robust piece of hardware then you may never lag out until you start exceeding your bandwidth.

I've stuck mine back on Auto ready for doing the time trial on Monday, easy enough to change back afterwards

FYI using a lag switch is dangerous if pointed at the wrong thing, can f*ck other players over if you're the host and is against GTAO TOS.

Could blocking GTA's access to UDP port 6672 (just a crazy example ...) be considered a TOS violation? Seems like a bit of a "gray area" to me.

 

How would they know? UDP does not require confirmation of connection.

I've been using the [email protected] method and it's been working decently until thursday night/early Friday AM. I got about 2 solid hours alone before it started adding people to my session, I'd "find a new session" and then 20 minutes later someone would be added, they were always a CEO/VIP though which i found to be odd af.

 

At one point I was thrown into a lobby with 2 people in it already but the minute i joined they both left. Then one time a CEO got added and his associate followed not long after. This happened about 5-6 times before I gave up and left.

 

I think I'm gonna try one more time on 800 and then see about adjusting it.

I just change MTU to the 800 value for the time that i need it. Won't allow me to join anything (jobs/session) but friends (bodyguards) still can get in, some keep lagging out after a while though. It seems once you exceed past 2-3 players in a lobby it starts adding more people to the lobby after a while (mainly groups of people that just finished jobs). When that happens i just join another session (works 100% for me with mtu setting changed, always by myself) and just invite my friends again.

 

Some days we can stay in a session for hours without others joining and some days i start up 10+ new sessions. Good thing is, it just takes the time to load in new session and we're off again .

 

The days that we play with a lot of crew members we just split up in different small lobbies, works best. If you're with 10-15+ people it keeps adding randoms constantly.

As you all know we have to be in a public session to buy and sell cargo for the new update, and I managed to get in a public session alone yesterday by luck. Is there anyway to join one alone or do you have to lag yourself out somehow? Any help is much appreciated, and you'll help others that suffer the same problem.

 

Rockstar should really remove this "only public session" law they have.

how about if they just make the game single player? that seems like it would solve the problem.
