Is there a way to join a public session alone?

Having a strict NAT type helps. I find that my chances of dropping into empty lobbies significantly increases when my NAT is strict.

NAT Type 3 is the "strict" type for those of you wondering. You won;t be able to be matched up with hardly anybody except other NAT Type 3 connections which is not what you want for gaming so practically no one uses it.

This has to be set from within your access point (modem/router) and I am reasonably positive your ISP can restrict your ability to connect via certain types as well.

I prefer to play video games by myself anyway.

Sometimes a session wil drain down to just 3 or 4 players. Check for idle players - fun to kill them repeatedly. One got bored sniping him repeatedly just would walk up use axe or knife but flare gun would not burn him up - unbelievable. So yes a little axe murder add to my LS resume.

Sometimes I have been left alone. It will tell me "you are alone in a public session and need find populated one." This I delightfully ignore bc can do crate biz undisturbed.

Other times a solo job may end w me in public session alone. Once have this do not trigger job taking u to another lobby.

I change my internet settings on ps4 to get in a public solo. If i sell with a friend it lags out but buying is just fine. id have to leave and change my settings back and rejoin to sell.

Noticed something funny. I've been going on with full default settings and almost immediately end up in an empty lobby. Strange that :)

Are you on ps4? I've been having the same issue for a couple of weeks. It might have started when Cunning Stunts was released. When i go online, it always puts me in a lobby by myself. The exception is when friends are in a public lobby, it places me with them. Other than that, its been solo every time. I've been wondering if its Rockstar or just my internet, but a friend told me the same thing has been happening to him...and now this. Strange indeed.

I too am on PS4 and since Cunning Stunts dropped it automatically puts me in public sessions alone, but I can find a new session and it'll put me in a full lobby. It's weird, but I'm not gonna complain!

They should just let us set the default session type you want to load into when starting the game.

It's not just me then.

Almost every damn time I load up GTA since Cunning Stunts I have been loaded into a session on my own.

Then sometimes it has taken around five or six attempts at finding new servers before I actually end up in a populated server (which with my luck invariably ends with me being kicked before I can even leave my office)

Switching sessions a few times to land a empty public session. However, friends and crew members drop in. I had to leave a generic crew to be undisturbed. Most friends are cool.

Only one time some d-bag on my friends list drops in. He immediately starts shooting at me and my crates. I hesitate to shoot him, because I want to text him not to be a backstabber. And boom, he blows me up with his buzzard. Luckily he lags out my session before he hits my crates.

Needless to say he is now on my block list. Problem solved.

Spent most of Sunday (XBox One) trying to find a lobby where I wasn't the only person there. It's great to catch up on your shopping, get a new t-short and some snacks but other than that not much fun!

As you all know we have to be in a public session to buy and sell cargo for the new update, and I managed to get in a public session alone yesterday by luck. Is there anyway to join one alone or do you have to lag yourself out somehow? Any help is much appreciated, and you'll help others that suffer the same problem.

Rockstar should really remove this "only public session" law they have.

There is a very simple way to lag yourself out.

1. go to your router and find the ethernet cable going from the wall or modem to the router

2. unplug that cord for around 5 or so seconds

3. move you character around in gta online session

4. you should lag outt into a session by yourself shortly

5. if your lobby starts to fill up, repeat steps 1-4

Noticed the same thing I guess, when using the default settings, I was able to after a few tries get a empty lobby and it stayed empty unless a friend joined, after I change my MTU to 900, while I get into empty lobbies a lot easier, after about 10 minutes , if that, players started joining( not friends)

I honestly find it easier just by finding a new session until I'm in one by myself, it doesn't take long.

I'm not sure if this works for you guys, but I start the game up on wifi and then plug in my ethernet cable. For me, it even has a higher success rate than UDP Unicorn.

I'm really going to crack up laughing if R* takes empty public sessions seriously now & upgrades everything so it rarely happens anymore. Now that there is a reason to get lagged out & left alone, it really seems to be in their character to try to ruin it, despite never stepping in before when we wanted a solution.

Hit or miss, sometimes it would take a few minutes, and sometimes, 30 minutes later, giving up trying. Using Suspend mode seem to help the most with getting put in a empty lobby

Doesnt seem to work on my internet providers all in one unit, instantly get black screen telling me Ive been disconnected

I just set the MTU to 578.

Not convenient to switch back and forth for "public public" lobbies, but fiddling with the router is a pain as it's on another floor and connected by WiFi instead of corded.

If you want to go into a public session solo to do crate missions just do an internet speed test whilst joining a session on Gta online it should work, but I think by now the op knows how to get into public sessions alone.

not sure why so many people are using so many methods and applications. You can manually set your MTU without any 3rd party app in most routers...

To access your router just find out your IP (Google "what's my ip" if you need to :))

then enter your IP in your web browser (as the URL / web address).

That should connect you to your router so you can just enter your username & password then set your MTU low, save changes, then go back in-game.

Keep in mind though, having a low MTU will put you in a empty lobby but it probably won't stay empty forever, imo the matchmaking will most likely attempt to put other players with better connections in your lobby asap. I don't do the CEO empty lobby thing but if I did, I would probably put my MTU back up to 1500 once everyone leaves, that way R*s infamous matchmaking wouldn't start trying to find a new host for my lobby.

Just a thought in case your empty lobby keeps getting a random soon after it empties.

Anyways, good luck in your efforts to play online alone :)

Setting the MTU doesn't seem to have any effect on PC, but blocking the UDP ports in a firewall rule does work. Occasionally, it will put me in a session with one or two other players with the firewall rule active, but never a highly populated lobby. Griefers tend to prefer a target-rich environment, so that solution is good enough.

A little off topic but with regards to the MTU settings, can it go higher than 1500? That's what mine was on before I lowered it to 800, and if lowering it will leave you on your own, will raising it possibly fix the "everyone left" issue that alot of people get when they don't want to?

Maximum Transmission Unit is a parameter that controls how your devices break up large chunks of data for transfer. You might be able to enter a higher figure but I wouldn't recommend anything more then 1500 bytes per frame because that's the internet/Ethernet default standard at this time. Anything larger can cause issues such as your internet packets being rejected or spilt up into smaller IP packets.

It won't fix the everyone has left the lobby issue. That usually happens due to certain GTA online/network ports not being open.

MTU 800 works for me 100%. Sometimes only one other player enters for 5-10 min but they are always in their homes.

One way I know that works to get into a solo public session is to setup a race called at the races which requires to be added to a playlist simply do the race set to one lap turn off matchmaking then when it's done rate it and restart the race it will load into a public session for a brief moment and then reload the race again simply quit after that and you'll be on your own in a public session it works me and my mate do it all the time for our CEO work
