Sorry, we all know TLAD's pool is the best, not some silly arcade game. (Just kidding)

My favorite game of the episodes would be IV, then TLAD, then TBOGT.

I enjoyed tLaD a bit but it's too old fashioned. The old fonts, weapons, the dirty clothes of Johnny, the dirty phone, hell.

TBOGT is much Modern. Luis's phone's the best, Modern Weapons, Stylish Fonts, Club Life, Suit-Boots etc.

I actually like TLAD's font and the style more than TBOGT. I don't use the static motion though(TLAD)

The Lost and The Damned had the coolest story to it out of the three, since that's what differentiates the games most, it's my favorite i guess; also enjoyed the washed out feel to the graphics, if i wasn't hallucinating it or something. IV was solid, more fun to play for just messing around for some reason. The Ballad added the best vehicles and weapons, but the story was kind of a mess, not bad, but nothing as good as TLAD or IV.

Score Update:

Grand Theft Auto IV = 124 + 17 - 4 = 137 Ps

The Lost and Damned = 22 + 30 - 36 = 16 Ps

The Ballad Of Gay Tony = 26 + 27 - 35 = 18 Ps

---Ranks---

1. Grand Theft Auto IV (137)

2. The Ballad Of Gay Tony (18)

3. The Lost and Damned (16)

This time, TLaD gave TBOGT a Tough Competition. TLaD may win its 2nd Position back in future.

Personally, I'd take the following order:

  1. IV: The Lost and Damned
  2. IV: The Migration of Slav Balkan (standard IV. But lol, that's a good name I'd expect if it was given a title, despite being an opening entry, just like GTA I, II and III, followed by V.)
  3. IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony

I'd like to explain why I prefer The Lost and Damned to IV (I said prefer, not I think better, because they both are just as good) by a small hair;

While The Lost and Damned, as an expansion pack (it does feel like its own game, at least for me, and so does TBOGT, except for the story's lengths), contains only 22 storyline missions, I was really attached to its whole theme; from the story, to the cast along with the gangs, to the missions themselves, to the side-missions, the bikes, the weapons, and the soundtrack. When it comes to the theme, I have always been fond of biker gangs in GTA, since I played GTA Vice City and Vice City Stories, and have always been looking forward to get a title that's based on the biker life. When it comes to stories, both IV and TLAD have greatly written stories with extremely developed and likable characters, but personally, I'm more into a gang setting with a leadership position, especially biker based, than a hitman setting, even though I consider standard IV my favorite GTA title, along with TLAD, and Niko comes very close to Johnny and Tommy as my favorite protagonists. As for the antagonists, Dimitri is surely one of the best written and most developed antagonists ever made in gaming history, and he's one of my favorite antagonists in the franchise, but I prefer the badass traitor of childhood friend, like Billy, as an antagonist, to a recently introduced snitch of a Russian mobster. When it comes to storyline missions, yeah, I know, it contains only 22 missions, but when you come to think about it, they achieved so much, for an expansion pack, and I like the fact that most of them are squad-based. Those 22 missions I expect to be the best selection of a full GTA title's mission list. Interesting, fairly action-packed and straight to the point. When it comes to side-missions: Vigilante in IV was very entertaining, but I prefer TLAD's Gang Warfare to it. Same with Brucie's Car Thefts and Jacob's Drug Runs compared to Angus' Bike Thefts and Stubbs' Dirty Laundry. Not to mention the addition of some activities like the Arm Wrestling and Air Hockey. I also favor The Lost MC's clubhouse over any other safehouse among the GTA titles. Lastly, following TLAD's theme, in behalf of Roman's cab service, TLAD replaces that with Clay's bike deliveries, which is dope. Not to mention Jim's weapon deliveries, and the fact that Terry is capable to bring rocket launchers and grenade launchers.

Overall, neither of them is better than the other, it's just about themes and overall tastes.

When it comes to The Ballad of Gay Tony, it's obvious that it wasn't story-driven. Plot is weak and flawed, and most of the characters are too generic and total douchebags. Luis wasn't an interesting protagonist, but wasn't that bad neither. He was surrounded by a junkie fag of a boss, dumb douchebags of old friends, mobsters that are more like high school bullies, and rich assholes who think they're the axis of the universe. He could've had some more personality, depth and character development though, and so the other characters do, especially Bulgarin, who felt a forced antagonist. In addition, I didn't like the fact that, unlike Johnny, who was the core of The Lost and Damned's story, Luis wasn't the star of The Ballad of Gay Tony, but it was Tony, hence the game's title. When it comes to storyline missions, it contains 26 missions, but unlike TLAD, where all of its missions were exciting and brutal, TBOGT, while it's an expansion pack too, contains a few generic and/or arguably filler missions; the first mission is just "drive here" and "drive there", there's a mission where Luis drives Tony and Gracie to the latter’s house, and another mission where Luis and Tony follow Packie in his car, while they're in a helicopter (over the top and dull in the same time). The rest of the missions were too over the top, and many of them were really annoying, especially due to shoving the parachute and helicopters into them. Not to mention the annoying mission scoring that limits your options in the missions and forces you to do them in a specific way. When it comes to side-missions and activities, it has some cool ones, but some other bland ones too. Drug Wars were good, sort of... but they don't even come close to TLAD's Gang Wars, especially with the boring repetitive dialogue of Armando and Henrique, and the fact that it's less challenging, not to mention that enemy's backup that just spawns behind the player as soon as they move the camera. In my opinion, Triathlons aren't better than TLAD's Bike Races neither, but they were very enjoyable nonetheless. Cage Fighting was interesting, though I think it would've suited TLAD better, especially with its gritty biker theme and heavy metal background. Arm Wrestling alone tops each of Champagne Drinking, Dancing and Golf. I also didn't like TBOGT's weaponry as much as TLAD's, because despite being far away from being balanced, they're not so believable for a crime based game, and not as interesting in my opinion. Lastly, unlike IV and TLAD, TBOGT lacks a backup system. It would've been cool had it offering the backup feature, the Northwood Dominican Drug Dealers could've made some use.

This can't be explained easily, so I'll have to put on a few points...

Storyline: IV has the better storyline just because of how it's long, which is how I like my GTA games, and it's a always satisfying to end the game. TLAD storyline is okay, and TBOGT storyline is good as well. They're episodic content storylines though so they will never be able to meet the same standard as GTA IV in terms of length and development. Not to mention that they were both connected to GTA IV's storyline given that IV was the base game.

Protagonist: Niko Bellic takes this one because though he is a hired gun, he still doesn't take crap from anyone and is perfectly capable to sticking up for himself. Luis Lopez is a second because he's similar, but he's a bit too confrontational and can get a bit annoying at times, though to be fair I would be the same if surrounded by idiots. Johnny Klebitz isn't that memorable for me, and not the most likeable. He's still good though even despite what he became in GTA V.

Vehicles: The Ballad of Gay Tony takes this one in terms of cars, and the Lost and Damned takes it when it comes to bikes. GTA IV vehicles are fine, but some of my favourites came from the DLC content. The new Schafter in TBOGT and the Hexer in TLAD are some examples that come to mind, and every good vehicle I like in GTA IV is carried over anyway, so there's really more to offer me with the DLC content.

Missions: GTA IV and The Lost and Damned are similar in terms of formula, while TBOGT missions are more varied and inventive. I only wish it was longer. So in terms of variety, innovation and fun, TBOGT wins.

Characters: Have to give it to IV. Aside from Niko, the characters are just more memorable and such. Armando and Henrique I didn't care for, nor Gay Tony or my biker brothers. The best characters in them were already in the original GTA IV, so you can see which one takes this.

Activities: IV is at the bottom on here. It didn't have much to entertain me afterwards after completing the storyline, and TLAD had activities I didn't care as much for. TBOGT is the only one that had things I was interested in such as triathlons and base jumps. I'll admit this though; Frankie Boyle in Split Sides beats anything at Hercules and Maisonette 9, so TLAD takes that from both TBOGT and GTA IV.

Tone: I like TBOGT's Vice City like atmosphere compared to the darker ones of IV and TLAD. I love them all, but TLAD one was my least favourite. I didn't like the grainy texture that appeared at times either, so that's a major down point on my watch. I will say though, IV was a great tone given previous GTA games, and it's very distinctive. I like darker tones, and IV has one of the best in my opinion.

Soundtrack: Three words: Vice City FM. Moving along...

Customisation: Since we only have clothing, IV takes it just for it's greater variety and the ability to mix clothing together. It's really that simple.

Overall: For me, The Ballad of Gay Tony takes a win for it's better varied missions and such, but they're all good. It's really hard making me pick since they're all good. But my choices are clearly defined here: TBOGT, then IV, then TLAD.

I think GTA IV is the best beacause has the best story and characters. The darkness of the city and the final of the game(both of them) show a differt but kind of better and realistic view of life more sad, deep and serious which I liked. Also the posibility to spare people in some missions unafortunably didn't reapear in GTA V.The bad things about GTA IV are the game limitations(the game could had customisation of cars, houses for sale, more helicopters and guns, better rewards, and a better utility of money and maybe more secondary missions),I think there should been less boring missions that make you feel like the order guy and more missions before the betraying of Dimitri, but despite that I LOVE GTA IV,beacause when they removed customisation options from SA,new combat system and new mechanics were added so I don't care so much about Niko's customisation.

The Ballad of Gay Tony is my second beacause they added a lot of funny things. In first place,a good story, wich I think should be more developed(more missions with Armando and Henrique,Bulgarin as better antagonist, more missions),but I can't say any boring mission in TbgoT beacause I liked all. They added nightclubs, parachutes, new guns(I love them),new cars,THE BUZZARD,new characters and missions,of course, another perspective of Liberty City, drug wars, piegons,Cage fights,...Everything was enjoyable! The bad things are:the nightclubs should be more developed with the posibility to buy nightclubs and invert in them(and missions asociated with Tony) and earn money.I love the final mission but I think there should be clarified what happened to Tony and the nightclubs. Also I think the clothes stores should be accesible, since I can't understand why you can't enter. This game was a different perspective of GTA IV,more happier.I think it was good beacause it's different and more diverse.Despiste everything,MY FAVOURITE DLC!

The Lost and Damned,it's not last beacause I hate it,I love it.It was the first DLC,with a better story than The Ballad of Gay Tony with a lot of tension, but i thing it should been more develoed with more missions to understand more the characters but again,a different perpective than GTA IV.I like the new guns, bikes, radio stations, characters, club house.I liked the biker thematic and the races but I was a little dissapointed beacause the game hasn't a respect system, mmore interaction with other members and the clubhouse, the minigames and to watch TV is removed after last mission.I liked the missions but I think after that they removed almost everything special in the game. The bad things are:There is no cage fights, after the last mission should be an empire building(or biker clubhouse building)that let you build clubhouse, invert in them(with missions ane events)and make money. The missions are great, that's why I am sorry the game finishes so soon. Also I thing the removal of clothes stores shouldn't happened.

Overall,A city,THREE characters,THREE perspectives that I ENJOYED.

I belive GTA IV&DLC's should be a game with three characters like GTA V.Would've been better three characters than GTA V beacause they are not friends(GTA IV characters) and are three perspectives which makes the game more interesant. This shouls've been the 10th aniversary remaster GTA IV should've recived.

Overall,GTA IV&EFCL the best GTA.It could've been better, but the story the city and the ambient are enough for me.Imagine GTA IV&EFCL united as a game with all features of abouve. It would've been the best GTA for a lot other people.

What GTA IV has and GTA V don't:

A good map,not big but everything in Liberty City has an utility

Better driving system

Better cover system

Better characters

Better stories

Better gameplay

Better missions(GTA V don't have three protagonists in which one makes an action and the others suffer,or makes an eveniment of other or to suffer)

Unlike GTA V,GTA IV was a revolutionary game and changed all the GTA saga in better.

REALISM

GTA IV REMOVED THINGS FROM SA,BUT they "repleced" them with a good hisory, realism, personality, phone and internet, cover system, driving system

GTA V REMOVED THINGS FROM IV(bowling,pool,cover system,driving system,good characters,restaurants,hospitals) and didn't "replace"them with anything.

Yes,a great map,but empty and usless.

Yes,planes and cars. :)

Yes,bank robberies. :)

Yes,good missions with bad characters.

Yes,shark cards but a bad Online.

Yes,free Online DLC,but no story DLC.

TBOGT...not a fan. I think its basically GTA V only worse, everything thats wrong with the latter began here. At least V had Michael who was a strong protagonist, Luis sucks ass!

You're quoting a 3 year old reply.

Anyway, I'm answering this:

  • Underdeveloped, bland and annoying characters, including messed up antagonist development. Hell, even one of the trio (Franklin, obviously) is horribly developed.
  • Weak and nonsensical stories.
  • Too lighthearted and silly themes. Nothing wrong with creating a lighthearted theme, but at least put an appropriate balance for a crime-riddled game.
  • Too over the top missions.
  • Bland mini-games. (dancing and golf. The former wasn't in GTA V's SP, but still, they both have similar 'retirement' kind of mini-games. At least it was better than yoga.)

I still consider TBOGT the lesser of the two evils, though.

One thing, pretty right about franklin, not even sure if he's one of the protagonists, you can just play as him that's all, also agree with some part you said there

I mean like, whole story is about michael and a little trevor

IV is definitely first. Niko Bellic is too good of a character, and I was really engrossed in his Story the most. Plus, I just felt like the world was experienced better through his eyes. You're placed in to this world as this character newly coming in, and you discover it together. I liked that. His story had a real emotional impact on me.

TLAD would be second. The Biker theme was fantastic, and was something I really wanted to play.

TBOGT is last because whilst I did enjoy the graphical changes and different vibe, I think it moved away from what I liked a lot about the original IV. That gritty Liberty City.

1. GTA IV. It's a full game. Also Niko Bellic.
2. TLAD. Great atmosphere and story, varied missions without being too over-the-top.
3. TBOGT. Fun toys to mess around with, but I feel sorry for Luis being surrounded by such assholes. He deserves better.

TBF, the gap between TLAD and TBOGT isn't that huge in the poll. Using the OP's ranking system they are even if the weighting factor of 2 is applied to the "most favorite" option.

EDIT: Now TLAD is in the lead. Well deserved.

Gettin up

IV is of course my favorite of the three.

TBOGT was good, but felt very short. The most important thing it did was to bring the nightlife atmosphere to LC.

TLAD didn't like at all. I don't even remember the characters. I just rushed the missions because I wanted to see how the game is, but meh.
