No. GTAOnline is the worst GTA yet to be released.

Is this gonna be the new thing now? Kids who never played the 3D era games hating on them because V is their first GTA and the newer games have better graphics and new features? I shudder for the future.

 

No offence to those poor kids who played V and sh*t Online first can f*ck off. I'm still playing my gta 3 which is bae. I'm too far stuck in nostalgia

 

Kids should really understand the concept of technical limitations back then. If you show a kid any of the 3D GTA's and their first game was GTA V, they're most likely gonna say "This game sucks the graphics are so bad lol GTA V is better"

It's true, but in some ways that's how it is for everything. Some kind of pop culture thing comes along, is loved, then considered "old" and slowly drifts away to the sands of time. 100 years from now will people remember GTA Vice City? Comparing first 3d gta to newest gta's is unfair. Imho the worst gta was gta 2 on gba or gta advance, which is nearly unplayable, mainly due to limitations of gba.

Till this day it isn't known. III came out way back in 01. Damn R* likes to keep us wondering about sh*t like this even with this old mystery that still isn't known. maybe you just didn't understand the story.. Claude doesn't give a f*ck about anyone. The only reason why he accepted the deal (The Exchange) was to kill Catalina.. Actually the whole story is about getting revenge on catalina.

Maybe the story seems to be very boring for kids today but back then GTA III was actually the first game for PS2 which had a open world map and a real story.. Driver on PS1 had some similiarties but it was horrible.

gta 3 sould have ended in the staunton island part where claude climbs up on the elevator.

he meets catalina and he shoots the sky instead of her for some reason, then he do nothing than watching and pointing the gun.

catalina shoots miguel on the back and takes the money then she runs to the edge and she jumps off of the building. meanwhile claude do nothing.

 

if i was claude, i would just immediately shot catalina if it was an revenge.

You do understand 3 came out over a decade ago? What age are you? What you see as an unfinished game, the older gamers here see as a classic.

GTA3 was one of Rockstars first 3d games. Of course there's going to be down sides.

What you see as poor storytelling or an inability to smash a car with a bat, we see well aged game that had a huge fan base and needless to say, successfully paved the way for subsequent titles.

 

I don't think you appreciate the amount of work that went into this game; the voice acting, music, city landscapes. It actually is quite a beautiful city, and aspects of it should have returned in IV, in my opinion. If you can't appreciate the game, don't force youself to play it. Return to your glamorous modern titles.

it aint matter old or new, sometimes old games can be better than newest. what about gta lcs? the 4th gta 3d game, released after gta sa.

in gta lcs R* reused the gta 3 map and instead of adding roofs they brighty up the textures, gta 3 graphics looks realistic than gta lcs, vehicles in lcs look like a paper, gta 3 characters textures looks way better than in lcs.

I hold quite the opposite opinion, I feel the newer titles IV and V storylines and content just haven't entertained me as much as the 3-era titles.

^^He has major point. LCS and VCS were just decent gta's reusing maps from the past gta's. Just holding off the fans basically. Not until IV which a game changer in the series. Still though the 3D era were grate games.

i been playing gta 3 for 2 years on ps2 and couple months on pc and i think its the worst gta game ever, i found many craps in this game like:

 

you cant smash the car with the bat, you cant fly with the dodo, the running paunch do no damage, no reward for 100% game completions, no health or armor upgrades, you cant travel to portland island because of the mafia gang with the deadly shotguns, yardies hates you for no reason, games like this should have crouch, purple hoods always disappears when starting new game, worst ending, the tank always stays when spawn it, no claude cutscene model.

i think claude should leave the liberty city because every gangs hates him and every gangs are everywhere.

dodo is the only usless vehicle in this game.

at the end of the game claude shot maria for some reason, i think its the worst ending ever.

when i spawned rhino (tank) then destroy it and notice that rhino will always stay in the game, which means i have to start the new game unless if i didn't not saved the game.

when the cutscene starts, i notice that the game use ingame model of claude while other main characters use own cutscene model. i guess R* were lazy

Says a person who more than definitely played more "advanced" GTA games before (more than probably, San Andreas and/or IV).

 

On the topic, no, I definitely don't hate the game. There is no reason for me to do so. There are some things that may bugger me, but it does not adversely affect my overall impression of the game.

 

As to your stated points, although most, if not all, have been answered before:

 

you cant smash the car with the bat - do you really need this? What for?

you cant fly with the dodo - practice makes perfect, just do it. Mind that the contorls are somewhat different from further GTAs, and that may have been the problem

the running paunch do no damage - It may be a problem, but not a major one

no reward for 100% game completions - so you need a reason to complete the game 00% other than completing the game 100%?

no health or armor upgrades - do you really need them? If you were a decent GTA player, you would have learned by now how to effectively conserve your health and armor. Apart from that, the Prostitute Trick mentiend before could be helpful.

you cant travel to portland island because of the mafia gang with the deadly shotguns - you can, at your own risk. I know, that is very frustrating, even for me, but that is just how the game is

yardies hates you for no reason - why not? King Courtney betrayed Claude and sided with Catalina (the "Kingdom Come" mission)

games like this should have crouch - why would you need that?

purple hoods always disappears when starting new game - delete all your save games with "UZI Money" completed, as well as all games started after having a save file with "UZI Money" completed. This is a problem, one that the team did not address.

worst ending - in a manner of speaking. I partly agree to you about this, the game itseelf is better than the ending (not the final mission, mind it)

the tank always stays when spawn it - beccause it is considered a unique vehicle by this game

no claude cutscene model - what the hell do you need that one for?

 

rockstar kinda messed up with this game, what a pricks - they did not. They used this game as ground work for their further games, making them "clean and shiny", so you could play and enjoy them. At least, that was until the HD era.

GTA III is too far from being hated that way you just typed, it's the main game of the 3D era, what the hell do you expect from it? You couldn't do sh*t back in 2001, it was when the videogames wasn't as known as they are today, still, GTA III is a perfect game, few mistakes but it too far from being hated.

Dude, I even remember getting my first PC in 2005, it was obviously crap and you couldn't do nothing back then.

You should compare it to its time. If you compare all GTA titles together, then the original GTA or GTA2 don't even count as games.

GTA3 is still a decent game, at least plot-wise. It has a powerful background (the whole storyline of 3D universe).

Remember that without III, there woulda been no 3D GTA game, and GTA could've been a forgotten mini franchise consisting of 5 or 6 top down driving games.

Also, many of its features were removed because R* was just starting to make 3D GTA titles. Those features were later put in VC and SA was somehow Rockstar's wishlist that happened to turn into reality.

No it isn't. One of the top-down gtas is probably the worst ever but I can't say because I've only played since gta 3. Sure if you think about every gta game that came after it, gta 3 is the worst one, but it's still a very good game especially considering how long ago it came out. I've just downloaded it today and playing it for the first time in over 10 years and tbh it's still good.

Is GTA3 the worst game ever? Not by a long shot. Is it the worst GTA instalment? Perhaps, depends what you expect from a title and how you place it alongside later games. The thing to remember here is a lot of the criticisms mentioned were indeed features and benefits explored in GTA games that came later, building on what was at the time a relatively fresh concept. It's interesting that GTA1 and 2 have seldom cropped up here because when compared to 3, I'd consider those the weaker titles based on the exact same logic.

 

If GTA3 was to be released now, yes absolutely, it would be a crippling disappointment and such a step backwards you'd be in danger of splitting your pants. However, GTA3 is 15 years old now and it would be unfair to call it a bad game (and certainly unfair to call it the worst game ever) when stacked against VC or SA, especially when said titles built upon the very foundations which made 3 so successful.
