Leftist Bastard
Trevor Phillips - a teenage wannabe psychopath's wet dream. Michael Townley - a teenage wannabe criminal's wet dream. Johnny Klebitz - a teenage wannabe biker's wet dream and generally boring, mithering, pathetic old loser. Dr Bosconovitch - stand up you f*cking prick. How is a fat, 40 years old man with a dysfunctional family and a broken marriage a teenager's fantasy?

Good Hombre
Trevor, he doesn't make any sense, they wanted him to be a scary psycho but he's so childish that you can't take him seriously. DarkSavageDeathlyCloud
Franklin from GTA 5 Most boring character ever....i really got slightly annoyed even that not chosing to eliminate either michael or trevor did not result into his death instead. 🕊 and Good Hombre

D9fred95
Jason from Far Cry 3. He's supposed to be a deconstruction of an action hero, a normal guy becoming a bloodthirsty badass to the horror of his friends. Problem is he gets used to his new chaotic environment like 1/4ths of the way in and he doesn't seem anymore blood thirsty than most protags of the sandbox genre. Not to mention Spec Ops did a better job of the action hero deconstruction angle.
Leftist Bastard
Since we're at it; i'v never seen a game with more uneven first and second halves than Far Cry 3. First half is genuine GOTY material; the second half is an exercise in awfulness and tedium. Mister Pink

KratosDrake
Silent protagonists with zero personalities like Claude or even Gordon Freeman. Also that whiny Desmond Miles from AC and the emotionless dude from Silent Hill 4 (forgot his name he's so boring). Uhh, excuse me? Desmond has First Civilization DNA which causes him to have very good fighting and freerunning abilities besides Eagle Vision, has extremely kickass ancestors (Altaïr, Ezio, Connor, Edward, Haytham that I know is a Templar but idc) and saved the world from a solar flare even knowing that would release Juno... and, tell me, if you were suddenly kidnapped by a evil enterprise which seeks to achieve "peace" through stripping of free will, have to you revealed that your family was fighting them for centuries, heck, maybe even millenia, be thrown into a worldwide fight for the future of the humanity to be decided, tell me if you wouldn't be scared. Also, his snarker personality complements him. Can't talk about the others because never played their games tho. But I personally like silent protagonists, because it gives you more focus in gameplay and not in their dialogue. Because if you're a dialogue-follower like me, you will find it easier to enjoy more gameplay because you're not looking at dialogues all the time. OT: Nobody on my mind right now. I haven't played much games. Though I could probably name some supporting characters.
Kiffster
None of that changes the fact that Desmond is an extremely bland and boring protagonist though rtie
Dan_1983
Franklin, Michael and Trevor - I hate GTA V for many reasons, but mainly because of those three. Cole Phelps in LA Noire - one of my favourite games, but I didn't like his attitude. Nick Kang and Marcus Reed from the two True Crime games - terrible. Claude from GTA III - love the game but hate silent protagonists. Boss in Saints Row 1 - see above Jack Marston - I got so used to John and I hate character changes late in a game. KratosDrake
Trevor - Childish How is a child able to kill many and many and many gangbangers/Merryweather thugs/police officers? How is a child able to do that amount of damage to a corpse as he did to Johnny Klebitz? People gonna have to learn the difference between "childish" and "psychopath". Also, unpopular opinion, but i absoultely LOVE Trevor. He was the reason I managed to cope with having to stay in Blaine County, that good-for-nothing wasteland. He is fun and very bad*ss. KilnerLUFC
Silent protagonists with zero personalities like Claude or even Gordon Freeman. Guess it all depends on personal preference with this one. As with a book having no pictures, thus enabling you to create and imagine every character, scene, movement etc to your own personal liking, I guess the same can be somewhat applied to protagonists having no 'voice'. Many times I've actually hated the voice-acting in games, and prefer subtitled speech so as to be able to imagine it all to my own liking. Don't think main characters having voice actors became a prominent thing until like my mid-teens, so got used to silent protags anyway. Some games have even built on it and added multiple 'replies' we can give, somewhat giving our character a personality to an extent. Just to build on what I've seen a fair few say now, but I disagree with those saying Jason from FC3. At the start I genuinely couldn't care, was just turning into another typical lone warrior who has to save the world and murder a million guys along the way, but whether it be down to really enjoying the game or whatever, I actually started to feel for him as the game progressed...Yes, his quick transformation was in some way exaggerated... Only ones I will agree with off the top of my head though would be all 3 from GTA: V...The lack of f*cks I gave about any 3 of them lends itself to me ranking this as my least favourite GTA game of all time. No specifics, I just couldn't absorb myself into their lives in way whatsoever...
Adrian J.
I'd say Nero from DMC4, seems to bland compared to Dante. Lincoln Clay from Mafia III, if you thought Franklin from V was bad? geez this guy. Big Boss in MGSV, idk maybe because he's (spoiler: not actually Big Boss) and lacks all the charm and charisma of the Big Boss from previous games. On the side note, one of the most badass ones is this guy: Rex Colt from Far Cry 3:Blood Dragon
Algonquin Assassin
Lincoln Clay from Mafia III, if you thought Franklin from V was bad? geez this guy. He reminded me too much of Connor from ACIII. Boring, stale and little to no charisma. Whilst he's not the absolute worst character I've ever played he doesn't come close to Tommy and Vito from the first two Mafia games. Kiffster
Silent protagonists with zero personalities like Claude or even Gordon Freeman. Guess it all depends on personal preference with this one.For me silent characters only work in RPGs where you create your own character and choose your own style and where the game never really ends. In other more linear games I would prefer my character to be able to speak and to have some sort of personality.

Hey Connor's my favorite! Not every character needs to be charming and witty; Connor's probably the deepest AC protagonist alongside Shay Cormac. Shadowfennekin
I second, third, or.... whatever Lincoln Clay. He's why I took the game back and got something different. The only way I'll play the game again is if Microsoft gives it away like it did Mafia 2 a year or two ago. And Sitara(?) in WD 2, only for a mission but..... ugh! I don't like her. She's the only one of the WD 2 Dedsec crew I dislike. I'd totally kill for a Wrench DLC though TheSantader25 and ThatBenGuy1998
ThatBenGuy1998
1. Trevor Philips from GTA V. I’ve kinda ranted on him enough so I won’t give any explanation. If you are truly curious, please read my posts in other threads. 2. Lincoln Clay from Mafia III. I might like him even less than Trevor. 3. Logan Walker from Call of Duty: Ghosts. Too boring and uninspiring, especially when compared to all of the previous COD protagonists. 4. Nick Reyes from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. See above. TheSantader25
-Jason Brody(Far Cry 3): I loved FC3 but Jason was the Weakest part of the game and god the voice acting was horrible. -Jack Marston(RDR) :I mean nothing against the guy but It just would suck to play as almost any protagonist after John. Laker23
Lincoln Clay - I forgot about him until I looked through this topic, and it reminded me how bland he was. I actually thought Mafia 3 was just OK, didn't hate it as much as others, but he wasn't a strong character and apart from the incredible cutscenes in this game I never really cared about his story. John Donovan, however, now there's my kind of character. Lara Croft (reboot) - Maybe a controversial choice, I don't know. I don't hate playing as her. Her personality in the reboot trilogy (haven't played the latest) is just incredibly annoying. I have fond memories of her being a badass, no nonsense type of action hero from my childhood. Obviously games are now focusing much more on realistic stories, but her character is whiny, bland and the daddy issues she's had through this 'journey to becoming the Tomb Raider' is just not for me. I don't think the writing helps, honestly, and I have heard the 3rd game in the reboot improves upon this somewhat. I believe the reboot has been pretty successful sales wise, so I hope in the future they change it up and just make her more likeable, as I really enjoy the games being an Uncharted fanboy. Franklin (GTA V) - Won't go into too many details here, as I'm sure it's obvious and I'm repeated the same thing a number of times in the GTA parts of this forum. A bland, unimaginative character who feels like an afterthought the entire game. Whether they put him in for a slight SA feel, who knows, but I couldn't care less about him from the beginning and it somehow declined throughout the rest of the game. You have to be pretty uninspired to make me care less about you as a game goes on, so well done Frank. Leave it at that for now. Sanches
