  2. 2. Are Combat Rolling and FPS Strafing Legitimate Tactics?

    • No, you should be taking in bullets like a real man! Nothing feels better than getting chunks blown out by gun fire!
      16
    • Combat Rolling really is! You have a chance to escape certain death when there's no cover! FPS Strafing is just a little paranoid dance.
      29
    • FPS strafing is totes legit! You become a much harder target while frustrating your opponent. You're not a donut! Stop combat rolling!
      4
    • Both are very legitimate tactics and you can play how ever you want because no one else can force you to play in a certain way. That's the beauty of GTAO!

    • I really don't care since I just like corner shooting and spamming heavy weapons for easy kills.

Which of the two do you think is worse? I personally think first person strafing is worse. To me it's a much less realistic movement than combat rolling due to the very quick and snappy movement that tends to make players much spammier. Though, I do believe these are legitimate tactics to help you stay alive while still facing fire without turning to "bitch tactics". They're much less cowardly moves than corner shooting or spamming heavy weapons. Combat rolling is probably a bigger problem in Auto-Aim while FPS Strafing is a bigger problem in Free-Aim.

***Please no arguing about auto-aim vs free-aim. I'd like this thread to be a civil as possible.***

Though this message might actually provoke certain users to cause chaos. Ah well, it is what it is.

As a KB/M user on PC, I could not care less about combat rolling or strafing.

I would say FPS "Shuffling" is worse. With combat rolling if a enemy player breaks your auto aim with a roll then just aim manually for a few seconds and try to kill them during the mid roll.

Works well with the combat MG.

I'd go with Shuffling because it seems like a a oversight on Rockstars part, I actually reported someone before I knew it was a thing because it looks that broken.

Combat rolling in Free aim is tolerable but in Auto it is a bit out of control. Hopefully in the next game they incorporate rolling into the player's stamina (which shouldn't be able to be leveled up to infinite) so players who run around rolling like sonic the hedgehog will have to put a bit more thought into when and where they should do it. Same goes for bullet proof helmets if they're crazy enough to bring them back, make the player's wearing them slower with shorter stamina bar.

yeah I'm with you on the rolling thing. In Red Dead Redemption is was just constant rolling with no delay. Luckily they took two steps toward in May Payne 3 with delaying between rolls and linking it to the stamina, but then took one step back with GTAO with not linking it to stamina.

Another terrible poll.

I agree, there is no "both of them are retarded" option...

Is this only a auto-aim issue / poll? Are either choices bad at all? Combat rolling is part of the game and I'm pretty sure you mean side strafing which is also a normal part of the game, so I don't know which is worse, neither is a problem IMO.

Edit: I read some replies, no need to answer my question.

i couldnt vote neither in the top poll so i didnt vote.

neither is bad.

one can trump the other in any given situation.

stop being terrible, op and learn to shoot from outside of lock on range.

if you can do that. the rolling doesnt matter.

learn to fps shuffle while burping an lmg outside of lock on range, and rollign wont matter. you may even get to kill them mid roll and they will die with their ass up in the air like the bitch they are.

Shuffling, for combat rollers just get out your minigun and blast them to hell.

Shuffling is just broken as hell and needs to get fixed. Only K/D pussies use it, I legitimately never have seen somebody with a low K/D abusing it, just people with absurdly high ones.

Both tactics will induce the other person to just fire RPGs at their general location.

Strafing is a tried and true basic tactic of combat in many games. IN GTA though, the ability to use it with dead-accurate sniper and marksman rifles with no sway or manual stabilization needed though is a bit silly. Rolling is also a valid tactic, but it is also very silly to see foot battles where everyone is rolling every few seconds, I think the cooldown on it should have been a bit lower.

TL;DR: GTA is silly, and foot combat is a joke that Rockstar will never fix in this iteration

I don't see the problem with Combat Rolling, without that all we would have is running jumping and climbing. The running speed in FP needs to be slowed down a bit, but tbh, those players, as annoying as they can be aren't doing anything wrong.

I cornershoot, and I don't spam explosives to get easy kills, though I may do from time to time. What's wrong with cornershooting?

I don't understand how people can come to a game like Grand Theft Auto and play it like some generic PVP title.

Because PvP is also part of the game, though it sucks in this game, if I'm being honest.

The game needs to be revamped with mechanics from GTA 4. When sniping, you should not be able to run around like a headless chicken.

Freeroam was supposed to be kicking it with friends, doing stunts, robbing stores and relaxing; not a free-for-all. There are designated game modes (I.e. Death matches, adversary, challenges) for the retard warriors that think KD actually means something...news flash, it means absolutely nothing.

Take all the freeroam fighting to an actual deathmatch and make a couple $$ for winning FFS.

I have "discovered" combat rolling relatively recently, in that it used to piss me off before but now I understand it more and see how it's an essential element of armed combat in GTA.

Put it like this, without combat rolling you would just die every time you reloaded, and that would be super annoying. Much like I used to find Deathmatches and general combat super annoying, but now that I am able to utilise the combat roll, I can survive long enough to unload a second clip.

I'm not sure what the other thing is though. If you mean when a f*cking noob spams a combat sniper in your general direction while moonwalking, then yeah, that is annoying as f*ck and is hard to argue as a legitimate combat technique. I could just as easily spam RPGs in your general direction. It wouldn't make me good.

Undeniably, PvP is the biggest part of GTA0 and it its future, whatever that may be. Underlying most of the complaining is the premise that Rockstar's implementation of PvP contains all manner of artifacts that are not realistic, and not generic or balanced.

To the extent that PvP is inherently a competition, the successful competitors are the ones that excel at exploiting these poorly designed, poorly implemented, perhaps unintended artifacts. That makes it fairly unsatisfying for players who actually want a decent skill-based PvP experience.

On the other hand, it's probably fair to say that every PvP game has artifacts and exploits, making them equally terrible. Maybe the core problem is that online PvP is a flawed fundamental concept.

Combat rolling is part of the game. Why people continue to complain about it, amazes me. It's not unfair. It's not unbalanced. It's just "there". Stop crying over it.

As for "FPS wiggling" yes, that is a scummy tactic. As it marksmen wiggling. I'd like to see both nerfed, but not gonna happen.

Off topic but I for one hate deathmatches because it confines you to one area.

I use them both, love getting hate messages after destroying someone with a marksman in FP. I wouldn't care if they removed the shuffling, but if it's in the game, why not using it? And what's the problem with the rolling? You just can't roll first.
