Hallucinogenic drugs that offer access to new gameplay modes and areas

Now, I know people are going to hate this. Because it's over the top, and it's sort of saints row esque, and as we all know, fanboys be fanboys. But here we go.

In GTA V, peyote let the protagonists turn into various animals in drug fueled hallucinogenic happiness, and there was also the flying scene that was the only good part of the yoga mission. I think this could be expanded upon with more drugs such as:

Dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, is the strongest hallucinogen known to man. Unlike other drugs which simply cause things like ghost voices and things being more colorful along with states of euphoria, DMT may be so strong that it literally forces people to astral project. In the game, the drug would transport the player to the astral plane, in which your player character's spirit could then steal spirit cars and go on shooting rampages against the creatures of the astral realm. Hell, such a hallucination wouldn't exactly be out of the realm of DMT, people have probably had more powerful experiences.

Magic Mushrooms would increase the color saturation of the game, as well as cause hippy music to play in your character's head, a fuzzy pink border to appear around the screen in the same way fuzzy read borders indicate damage, and little 2d flowers would fall around the screen while the overall display would get a bit wavier.

PCP. Now, this is what'll piss people off, because it would effect normal gameplay for a time. PCP would basically grant the player temporary invincibility, since PCP in the real world basically numbs people to pain VIA self confidence and in the game you only get "Wasted" because your character passes out from pain.

Alcohol. Same as the previous games, wavy screen, stumbly character, funny dialogue.

Weed. BUUUUUUUUUUT, the effect will last more than 30 seconds and cops will tail you if they see you. And the dialogue will be less depressing.

Ketamine. Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic, therefore the player will be presented with a dream menu where you will choose from battling dinosaurs with machine guns, flying around the city in a colorful haze like in that yoga mission in GTA V except without the asinine yoga requirement, instead you could just get high, blade runner style futuristic city roaming dream, fighting off an alien invasion, fighting off a bunny invasion, and fighting off an invasion of alien bunnies riding dinosaurs. They're drug induced dreams, they don't have to make sense.

What do you guys think? Please be detailed and precise in your criticisms, don't just post "It sucks" and then f*ck off, actually explain why it would suck. Thank you.

I think it would be cool in first person atleast if there was some kind of drug that increases depth perception.

I don't know why we can't do all drugs in GTA. It's really hypocritical and dumb considering you can drink booze and smoke weed ingame. Dumbest and biggest fail of V is how Trevor never has the option to smoke meth ingame, even though that's he's billed as, a methhead. Thats the stupidest thing about Trevor's character. He's supposed to be this crazy wild methhead, yet we can't even smoke it as him. We barely ever even see him smoke it except for a switch scene. Nice going Rockstar. Morons.

Because meth would be controversial, and (Engage sarcasm) we all know how GTA is so saintly and avoids moral panic at all costs. (End sarcasm)

I really don't know why they did that. Even weirder, you can huff gas in the game. So what, gas fumes, peyote, alcohol, and weed are ok, but not meth? I don't get it.

Maybe his rage superpower was meth that he did on screen without you seeing somehow. I don't know.

It's not a bad idea, and we've already experienced altered gameplay due to substance influence from as far back as 2001, where Claude would experience slow movement and altered physics from picking up a ubiquitous generic pill. We've also seen what visits to the bar can do in GTA IV, which did add novelty value for the first two or three times. Driving drunk was the highlight for me, attracting police attention if you are found swerving all over the place.

In the future though? I think we'll see something similar to what we've seen in V, either by exploring perks (such as Franklin's heightened driving ability or Trevor's "impotent" rage) or in the added peyote feature in the current console ports. What was curious to me was the medicinal marijuana dispensaries in V that really added nothing but additional income and a few side quests here and there. I'd have liked the ability to purchase drugs and have them alter gameplay similar to the adrenaline pill mentioned earlier. All three characters in V not only could have had beneficial "features" of a drug but they all have justification as to why they would seek out drugs in the first place.

First of all You should be able to have them in your item menu, to have an option to get high whenever and whenever you want. Some of trips the should be really contecstual and react to some game elements, eg :

When high on mushrooms, the night sky above the desert should get animated, like moving zodiac figures. Meanwhile, doping them on boat could make You see giant monsters, like cthulhu or leviathan hah ^^,aaand when doping at graveard, could give you a nightmarish bad trip with zombies.

It can be some some new research chemicals, discovered and stolen from Humane Labs.

This. The game is about being a criminal, not a drug addict. Hallucinations are just that hallucinations, that meaning they aren't real. Sure, drugs can enhance some abilities, but drugs are addictive substances, and their long term use effect is to make you ill and die.

Technically someone in possession of a controlled substance is a criminal. You'd have to be in possession to take the drug. Therefore you'd be a criminal if you were taking the drug, or connected to a criminal and liable for prosecution as a drug abuser. Not to mention the number of crimes committed in order to purchase drugs, such as burglary, muggings, petty theft and, whooooaaaaa.... Grand Theft Auto, so you can sell the car and buy the drugs.

YOUR MOVE.

The criminal underworld is mostly built on the idea that people take drugs. Not all drugs are addictive, and most drugs do not have the long term effect of killing you. You sound brainwashed.

Doesn't stop people playing golf or racing jet skis. They're fairly legal activities but they're still included.

I'd like it if they removed the special ability feature and replaced it with drug use. The adrenaline pill from the 3D era in particular needs to return.

this. I dont want to sound like a lunatic or some kind of drug lawyer, but mushrooms didnt kill anybody by only eating them. they're not lethally poisonous, even in long term 'abusing'.

alcohol is.

"hey kids, lets go to Vanilla Unicorn, and have a party, shots for everybody"... then..."oh, hah, this drunken driving mechanics is sooo funny".

yeah, great lesson for young people. drugs are bad, but alcohol is ok?

Just take them in real-life and then try playing the game :colgate: Problem solved.

OT, I hate it when my character spawns at the bong after a heist and goes groggy for a few minutes. I also hated 'Killer Clowns' in SP. No thanks.

TBH a lot of that would be dope.

I just don't know if PCP should make you 100% invincible. Should give partial health or make the player more durable (imagine temporarily going from 100 health to 500).

Maybe drug consumption could be a think throughout and partnered with a dealing mechanic, and you unlock DMT and/or Ketamine for purchase near the end of the game (100% or end of the story). It could go for the most cash and send you to the astral plaaaaaane.

I'd just like Peyotes back. Just for land animals though, I don't think R* should do anything with the water anymore. Nobody goes down there, just wasting time you could do making more missions or something.

And I wouldn't like the character powers being fueled by drugs. Just fix them and make them better. Like Michael's should be closer to John Marston's special ability instead of being a lame ripoff(I've never used his special ability. It sucks). Maybe even improve on it like make it bullet time on foot and Franklin's ability when in a land vehicle.

This very rarely happens. More people die from sober traffic fatalities a year than those killed by behavior brought on by hallucination in all of history...

In the long term everybody dies no matter what. Also, mushrooms, lsd, and marijuana are three drugs known NOT to kill in the long term. Also coffee.

Ok. Hallucinating may cause death, as I discribed. It's rare, because people don't use hallucination inducing drugs so widely. Coffee is not a drug, You can't die by caffein poisoning, because by drinking coffee that would be practically impossible.

from the technical point of view, caffeine is a stimulante, light drug. daily consumption of 3-4 cups of coffee contributes to increase of the heart attack risk, but in low dosages its very healthy and it helps metabolism, and what interesitng, low amounts of opium are healthy aswell.

but I think the conversation went offtopic.

we are supposed to discuss new gameplay elements, not the ethical point of subjective view about drugs. people who know them personally are consciouss about both sides of medal, what isnt how people without any epxerience are.

jes, and by your definition sugar is a light drug too lol

but OT: I don't want hallucinogenics to give you access to a different universe, because that doesn't fit into my definition of gta. Even peyote was too stupid to me, and I'm glad that I did't buy PS4 yet, because I would have bought a gta that included something I wouldn't have like to play with. To me it's just goes to show how stupid developers can be: They don't invent anything interesting to play, and then surrender the cause altogether and do something incredibly stupid.

Being able to turn into different animals is cool, it just would have been nice if they went the next step and gave them real gameplay mechanics. Just because it isn't interesting to you doesn't mean it adds nothing to the series. They added the ability to get drunk in IV, you can smoke from a bong, you can huff solvents... Why not have a couple more options? They don't even need to take you somewhere else they just need to be nicely designed shaders and maybe some transformations of colour on the environment/patterns overlayed. Get off your high horse man, this is a crime video game where you can f*ck prostitutes then kill them. Nothing about drug use is worse than that.

Also, caffeine is a drug whether you like it or not.

Any amount of caffeine is a drug. Drinking coffee makes you more alert, because the caffeine affects you.. You are ridiculous.

OT: I'm not against hallucinations and taking drugs in gta. Just the idea, that it would open up new universes seems not something I want in GTA, maybe some other ip. And I think the hallucinations of Franklin, like the dog, in the story were ok.
