Mister Pink
Based on the book, I Heard You Paint Houses "Scorsese's "The Irishman" has been picked up for international distribution by STX Entertainment for as much as $50 million." "The film is set to re-team Scorsese with Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel; if things go according to plan, it'll also mark the first collaboration between the filmmaker and Al Pacino. "The Irishman" was adapted by Steve Zaillian from Charles Brandt's book "I Heard You Paint Houses," a hitman confessional. Zaillian previously worked with Scorsese on "Gangs of New York" and won an Oscar for writing "Schindler's List." Source Finally, this film might see the light of day. It almost seems bulletproof. I know Scorsese is getting older and this might be his piece d resistance before he dies/retires.. actually for a lot of them. Scorsese is one of my favourite filmmakers. Goodfellas is just an amazing film for me. I pick something up new, every time. A team like Scorsese and Zallian will hopefully be magic. We know Zallian wrote great films like Gangs of New York, Moneyball and American Gangster This isn't expected to be released until next year or even after but I couldn't contain my excitement. I think it will be a cornerstone of cinema. Also a fairwell from such a talented team of people. Edited July 30, 2019 by Mister Pink The N. X S
I love the idea of these guys getting back together, especially since Pesci hasn't done anything since his cameo in the Good Shepherd, but I'm going to be annoyed if he casts another Italian as an Irish gangster. Both Henry Hill and and James Burke were Irishmen, played by Ray Liotta and DeNiro, receptively. Either way, it should be good. I love Scorsese. Henry Hill is Irish/Italian, which i believe Ray Liotta is too. but DeNiro as Burke was a miscast (even though he did a good job) I wonder who the other actors will be since this movie would have to be done mostly in flash backs (similar to the movie Hoffa). From what i heard is DeNiro is suppose to play old Frank Sheeran and Pacino will play Russell Bufalino (mob boss from western PA, fits the role and look) I also heard Bobby Cannavale is supposed to be in this movie. Mister Pink
De Niro can kind of pull off Irish I think as he's quite pale and doesn't look typically Italian. Although when you see the poster of Goodfellas with Robert De Niro you almost assume he's playing an Italian mob guy and not someone of Irish heritage. I hope Bobby Cannavale is in. He was superb in Boardwalk Empire. Only watched the pilot of Vinyl but I he's just got such a distinct face. He's good to watch. That's just the way the technicalities work around here. It was also explained in the film, both Henry and Jimmy could not be made because they were not purely Italian. It's just a little technicality. Same goes for DeNiro's character in Casino, Sam Rothstein a/k/a Frank Rosenthal was a Jew. Again, just a little technicality, but for the most part, no matter what ethnicity you are, everyone acts and talks the same, so DeNiro's portrayal was spot-on from acting standpoint. It's just that his character gives the perception that he was Italian, which he was not. >hollywood Mister Pink
MyName'sJeff
If this was planned back in the 90's, this could have possibly been the movie of the decade. That would have been the most legendary film and casting I'd ever see in history. But they're all old as f*ck, and lost a bit of the quality they've had. De Niro was in a film with that high school musical guy for god's sake. Pacino and Keitel are still f*cking awesome though. Don't know about Pesci, haven't heard or seen anything from him a long time. They're all living legends though.

Algonquin Assassin
What a shame Pesci turned down the role. Maybe Liotta might take his place? Basically these guys are the reason why Goodfellas, Scarface, Pulp Fiction etc are some of my favourite films ever. To see them together again would be boss. It would be the perfect send off for Scorcese's career. Mister Pink and ThatBenGuy1998
Majestic81
Why did Pesci turn down the role? Maybe he's getting sick of the mob movies?.. weird. This looks very interesting though. Great director and great set of actors. Mister Pink
Mister Pink
Pesci is no stranger to turning down potentially very successful roles. By the sounds of it, some times Pesci is a little off the mark.... Also, this is a good read if you want some insight was to why he retired from acting. http://uk.complex.com/pop-culture/2015/09/where-are-you-joe-pesci SoL: I would love to see Liotta in a flick like this. Or any flick that's decent. He's had a bit of a hit and miss career in film. Also, if this film becomes a future Scorsese, classic, Rockstar will be working on the next GTA and maybe we'll see some influence from gangster films. A movie based on a "hitman confessional" sounds entertaining. Pesci's back! Wow. I'm just happy to see principle photography has begun! This film is actually happening. I was so worried this would fall through. Algonquin Assassin
By the time the film releases it'll have been 21 years since Pesci's last major on screen role since Lethal Weapon 4 and even longer having anything to do with the mobster/crime genre. That has to be some kind of record as far as hiatuses go. Mister Pink

TheGodDamnMaster
Just rewatched Goodfellas earlier today. Can't wait to see Pesci in a bigger role again, it feels like it's been so long. I wouldn't be surprised if this is his last role though, he's been "retired" for almost 20 years. I'm sure he's only doing it because Scorsese and De Niro are involved. The N. Bellic Man
So, this is finally happening. I remember I was waiting this to materialize 6 or 7 years ago. Better late than never though. And it's very nice to see that Pesci is in this movie after all. This is going to be huge. Or at least I hope that Marty still got it. But we still have to wait a little longer since at this point it seems that they're aiming at 2019 release rather than next year.

TheGodDamnMaster
I really hope that Wikipedia's release date of 2019 is wrong. Filming is supposed to wrap next month apparently, so I don't see why it couldn't come out this year. Post-production shouldn't take that long on a film like this.
