So, have you skipped any popular gaming franchises completely or started playing them when the hype was over since years? Didn't the games appeal to you or did you have to choose another game instead?

-I've never played Bioshock. By the time the first game came out I was going through a halo addiction. I was interested in it again when Infinite came out but never bought it.

-Played Half Life 2 the first time in 2013.

-I regret never playing any Metal Gear solid game before ground zeroes. Playing the last title made me feel like it was completely my train.

- Zero interest in Dark Souls, Gears of War, Uncharted, God of War, Team Fortress 2.

Homemade Dynamite

Not exactly a franchise (at least not yet), but The Last of Us. The more I hear about how the game is the greatest thing since sliced bread, the more I feel like I'd be setting myself up for disappointment if I play it.

I can't think of much more. I have however played a lot of series where I never played the original. Just Cause, The Witcher, Red Dead, GTA, Fallout, Battlefield. I could name more, but there is too much.

MGS - played trough mgs3 back in 2005-2006, skipping cutscenes and not understanding a single thing.

Then played the whole series around 2010-11 (including Ghost babel, the forgotten gameboy color game), and i loved it

Uncharted - never played

God of war - played a couple of levels here and there, never the whole saga

Ratcher and clank - never played (except the racing game with a friend)

silent hill - played just the first hour of the first game

Resident Evil - never played

final fantasy - never played

japanese RPG - never played (except pokemon when i was younger)

also I didn't play games NOT on playstation

Rachet and Clank - It basically the same game as Sunset Overdrive with almost identical gameplay and mechanics, loved Sunset Overdrive, will purchase R&C one day down the road

Final Fantasy - I'm a Souls player, so there maybe a chance I like this as well. I like a good combat system.

Mirrors Edge - Looks cool

Mafia - Like GTA?

Dead Island - I have Dead Rising 3, I have Dying Light, I might like this series but I might be burned out on that kind of zombie game for now.

Dishonored - Again I'm a Souls player, so I might be into this

Project Cars - Its shinny at times

Minecraft - Thank god my kid ain't into this yet. LOL. But it does look like an actual good teaching tool for kids though. Future Engineers?

Homefront - There last game was a train wreck around launch and weeks afterwards, I stayed away and didn't get around to getting the game. There new game looks okay though.

Bully - I like GTA, don't know why I never got this.

Plants vs Zombies - Just not into strategy games like that.

Telltale Games - I gave Life Is Strange a wirl. Who knows I might like something they make. I'm a huge fan of Game of Thrones, but I didn't like The Walking Dead comic book thing they had going on. I like the characters from the show.

Just Cause - I have Just Cause 3, maybe have 15 hours in it. Its so broken on PS4 I can't even stay on. Framrate drops are so bad, maybe the worst I've seen on PS4. So I'm still counting this as " A series I have never played". Hopefully

fixed one day down the road. I'm starting to think never though.

Darksiders - Looks okay

Dragon Age - I like Souls and The Witcher series, so I would probably be into this.

Destiny - I haven't been into Halo since the original on Xbox....................

Payday - Heists?................

Naming just a few notable franchises since there are hundreds I've never touched:

Call of Duty (Not into FPS shooters besides Far Cry)

Resident Evil (close though since I have played Dino Crisis 2, which is basically Resident Evil with dinosaurs)

Jak and Daxter

Zelda

Spyro

Final Fantasy

Battlefield

Dark Soul's

Silent Hill (tried a demo, didn't care for it)

Street Fighter

Mortal Kombat

Devil May Cry

God of War

Unless it's an open world game grounded in reality to at least some degree e.g. crime (surprise surprise), there's little chance I'll bother.

Besides every new game that came out from 2012 to now, there are so many great franchises and games I feel like I've missed out for not playing. Here are some of them:

Franchises:

- Fallout. Only played Fallout: New Vegas for a couple of hours at a friend of mine's house.

- BioShock. Just like Fallout: New Vegas, I played the first one for a couple of hours at that friend of mine's house.

- Portal. Only Valve games I played were Half-Life and Half-Life: Decay. When I'll get a PlayStation 3, I'll most likely buy The Orange Box.

- The Legend of Zelda. This series received a lot of praise, but since the only Nintendo consoles I owned were the Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy and Game Boy Color, I never had the chance to play any The Legend of Zelda game.

- Assassin's Creed. Not really interested in this franchise, but I'd love to play both the first and second ones.

- Batman (Arkham series). I love Batman, and the Arkham series looks amazing from what I've seen. Definitely something I'd like to play in the future.

- DOOM. Only played the first one, but that was a lot of time ago. Always wanted to pick DOOM 3: BFG Edition.

- Wolfenstein. Definitely something I'd love to play, especially the newer ones to be honest.

Games:

- Grand Theft Auto V. I may be the only one on these forums who never played it - haha!

- Max Payne 3. As a big fan of the first two games, I really want to play this one and complete Max Payne's painful journey.

- L.A. Noire. This game looks amazing, and its gameplay surely has something unique to it.

- Midnight Club: Los Angeles - The Compete Edition. This will probably be my new favourite Racing game ever. My current favourite one is Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix, and from what I've seen this one is just too amazing to not be played. The customization has been highly improved and updated in this one.

- Half-Life 2. As mentioned above, only Valve games I played are Half-Life and its PlayStation 2 exclusive episode Half-Life: Decay. Looking forward to getting The Orange Box.

- Skate 2 & Skate 3. Definitely, the first time I played Skate, I skated in real life, too; and was blown away by how faithful were the controls to the actual movement you do with your feet while on a skateboard. Only two things I didn't really like about Skate were the camera, too close to the skater, and the fact that you couldn't freely walk, but always had to be on your skateboard - glad the next ones fixed both of these things. I'd really like to play them.

- Tony Hawk's Underground & Tony Hawk's Underground 2. Never played the Tony Hawk's Underground series, but I'm actually considering to buy the first one one of these days. I prefer their concept over Tony Hawk's Pro Skater's, and already played them all except the latest one.

- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I'd really like to play it. While I don't have too much experience with RPG games, this one - along with Fallout - seems to be entertaining and something I'd like to play.

There are many other franchises and games I've never played but the list would be too long.

There aren't a lot of franchises I haven't tried, but Half-Life and Portal are two of them, possibly, because they suck. I don't play many FPS-games anyway, but for some reason the overhype on those two made me even more determined to never play them or even try them. 2MAINSTREAM4ME.

Final Fantasy or any other JRPG I've also never played, I am okay with turn-based combat, but not in the way it's presented in most JRPG's, I will probably play the remake of FF7, just to see why it was so good (or play the original instead if it ends up sucking).

I haven't played Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank, mainly because I didn't have a PS3 at the time. I do have one now and definitely plan on playing both of these franchises as they seemed like a lot of fun.

Before a month ago I never played Deus Ex neither, but finished Deus Ex (first game) two weeks ago now and started Deus Ex: HR, which is freakin' awesome.

Also, pretty much every racing franchise ever.

AC1 was probably one of the worst in the series IMO. The story was quite good and better than 3, but it kinda sucken gameplay wise and graphically if you compare it to the sequels. There's an edition that contains every AC from 1-3 so you'll get 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations and 3 and isn't probably that expensive anymore so I can recommend it if you want to check out the franchise.

Although it will get VERY tedious and repetitive sooner or later. Black Flag refreshed that formula though.

And THUG probably aged now but it's still my favorite game of all time. If you're into TH then go get it. NOW.

I replayed it a few months ago and it has the best story in a skateboarding game ever made. Even today I think it was just awesome.

Oh, I didn't know that. Well, I don't really care about graphics, as long as the game is enjoyable. On the other hand though, I like a game that tells an interesting story. Thanks for letting me know about that collection, I completely ignored its existence, and I'll consider buying it once I get a PlayStation 3 as the only console I currently own is a PlayStation 2 - I really like Double Packs, Trilogies, Collections and such. I've heard very good things about Assassin's Creed 2, by the way.

No problem, I still play pretty old games like 3D Universe GTA games, Max Payne, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Duke Nukem 3D, the original Shadow Warrior, et cetera, so I have no problem with old games. I'm a big fan of Tony Hawk's games and had all the ones released for PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, except the Tony Hawk's Underground games and latest one, but I don't care about that one (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5). I've seen some gameplay videos and felt in love with it, also considering that I restarted skating in real life. I also really like the fact that Tony Hawk's Underground 2 has a Jackass feel to it. Tony Hawk's Underground definitely is the next game I'll buy for my PlayStation 2.

Thanks for your input, fashion.

Yeah I think you would. When I played TLOU I wasn't really disappointed. Just didn't find it to be the godly masterpiece it was made out to be.

I just think it didn't live up to the hype. However it's nearly 3 years old now so maybe trying to play it without thinking of it as the greatest thing since sliced bread might do wonders. I've been thinking about getting the PS4 version.

Anyway I can't think of that many franchises where I haven't played any of the games at all even if briefly, but one that comes to mind is Final Fantasy.

However there's a heap of games from certain franchises that I haven't played even if I've played the others. Can't be bothered listing them all.

I have never played The Prototype franchise before. I do know the story to both the games in the series but I've been meaning to play the games but I never gotten around to playing them until recently. There's a Prototype Franchise Bundle in the PS Store on the PS3 and I bought it but I can't download it until I get internet again. I can't wait to play as a super strong badass with super-badass-powers!

The list mainly includes the franchises that didn't really interest me for any of the sequels after playing a specific game in the franchise. Its a pretty big list, so not possible for me to share all of them here. Just to name a few:-

- MGS

- Dark Souls

- Uncharted

- RDR

- Resident Evil

- Halo

- and all those games that are designed for console experience in mind but play like interactive movies, having very little to offer in the actual gameplay.

Never played Fallout. Might give it a go this year.

Fallout 4 was a disappointment in my opinion. It was my first Fallout to play and I didn't care much for it. I can't say the same for the earlier Fallout's though. I'll probably enjoy those more than I did with Fallout 4.

Shadowfennekin

Uncharted, only game I'd even consider buying a Playstation for. But the better exclusives are on Xbox and so are my friends.

Telltale series, I own TWD and Wolf among us from Games with Gold but didn't play them yet

Ratchet and Clank, don't know much about them except the masterminds behind the funfilled Sunset Overdrive made it

TLoU, I just want to throw up each time I hear about how great it is and how it is the greatest game ever. Even if I could play it I wouldn't out of spite.

Witcher. I own 2 from Games with Gold but again, never played it(I always get the games, even if I don't feel like playing it at the time I can always play it later for free). Might give it a shot someday but for now I'm tired of hearing about it, maybe it'll turn out like AC I used to despise the series as I accused it of being another CoD shoving a game out every year must mean it's a PoS was my thought but nope, got Black Flag and fell in love then fell in love again when Syndicate fixed the wound Unity stomped on.

Midnight Club: ONLY Rockstar game series I haven't touched yet. I keep missing when they go on sale.

Shadowfennekin, is Assassin's Creed IV really that good? I haven't played an Assassin's Creed game since Assassin's Creed III. I've been wanting to play Black Flag but I never gotten around to buying it yet. After blowing money on Watch Dogs, I became very skeptical with any game from Ubisoft after that. I did see a Gold Edition in the PS Store and I might buy it sometime. I also enjoyed the sailing missions in Assassin's Creed III and I know that that is a major aspect in Assassin's Creed IV.

It's quite ironic they tried to dumb down the core mechanics of Fallout to make 4 appear more to the masses and new people simply don't like it.

@jrl5: I thought it was quite good and definetly the most unique game in the AC franchise. It's the classical AC formula + fleshed out ship combat and a huge arena to explore. And you can hunt whales.

Beware, you're gonna spend a lot of time on your ship.

I played every AC game besides the mobile spin off, liberation, unity and chronicles India, Russia.

Should I get unity? Is it really that terrible?

I guess I'd recommend Unity. But just temper your expectations.

The story is meh and the way they treated the historical aspect is plain awful, but for me, gameplay-wise, it's one of the better games in the series. They've cut off all of the fluff diversions and mechanics and really emphasized the core lone Assassin gameplay. There isn't as much variety in terms of gameplay because of that, but like with GTA IV, which did the same for GTA, the refined core and more variability within it makes the simpler tasks entertaining. Paris is amazing, the mission design is really good, with lots of open-ended scenarios, stealth actually matters and feels rewarding for once, there isn't nearly as much checklisting or generic copypasted side-missions and retooled combat and movement was solid, if still clunky.

The problem is that Syndicate polished and refined much of that (well, except for the mission design, checklisting and combat, where it went right back to the old habits), so Unity is now much rougher game in comparison and the fact that FPS stutters and glitches are still a major concern doesn't help either. And without a good story to fall back on, there isn't much to incentivize it over its successor.

I feel like the game has been demonized a little bit. Perhaps not wholly underservedly, as the launch was an absolute disaster and even that aside, the game has a lot of problems, but I wouldn't say it's an abomination that the internet makes it out to be. It's like AC III, good ideas, messy execution. It was equally a victim of Ubisoft rushing it out long before it was done (and by far not just in terms of bugfixing) and the audience fatigue combined with the internet looking for a scapegoat. Everyone likes to kick a big cashcow franchise when it's down.

Give it a try, I guess, you might enjoy it for what it is.

@fashion, Oh being on the ship most of the time won't phase me none. It's something I'm looking forward to. Now should I buy AC4 on the PS3 or wait to buy it when I upgrade to the PS4? I read that there's very little differences in the two versions.
