Extreme lag all of a sudden, game is unplayable

So, a few months ago I got really tired of GTA Online and stopped playing. But like a week ago I felt like playing again, so I booted up the game and... it was unplayable. It lags so much that just pressing W to go forward takes like 5 seconds to register. Eventually the game crashes. If I manage to make it out of my yacht most textures are missing, hills are invisible etc.

 

Obviously I've tried uninstalling and installing it again. The same issues. Nothing on my end has changed, same computer, same os, same settings, same network, same router.. Lots and lots of free space on my hd. Everything else except GTA Online runs perfectly.

 

I know this isn't how it works but it's like my computer has "forgotten" all the files and has trouble loading/understanding them again.

 

Any advice on this? What more can I try to fix it?

Does it happen in invite-only sessions?

Well you can go through the obvious tests first. See if other games of yours are doing this - if they are, then it's probably something with your PC.

 

If possible, test your copy of GTA in another PC.

 

Also, could it be your saved data? Sometimes that kind of thing can get corrupt, and stop games working properly when you're trying to play on them. Trying playing with a different saved game.
