Is there a way to determine the amount of players online?

because the game just feels deserted to me (PC version)

i just spent 30 minutes waiting for people to join a Pacific Standard setup mission..

I gave up and just did solo missions...

like what??

im sure many people have moved to invite only sessiobs due to the modders.

as for the heist, well they have been out for over a year, many people have moved to other things.

Has to wait for lobby to fill

GTA dead

Most people are probably staying in Free Roam now as most content now is outdated and overplayed by a majority of players and FR has some good money making opportunities with VIP work and Events.

Heists are not dead, but most players only play them with crew or friends and use invite only. Today I finished pacific standard 4 times.

I never have a problem finding full rooms. I never bump into the same players or dead rooms. PS4 user here.

To the right will tell you how many are in game (at least Steam users).

Thanks for the link! this is a great page to know about.

The curve of PC users since the beginning is probably fairly representative of waning interest in GTA Online in general. What is interesting is the steady state value of the long tail. I assume it's made up of a combination of diehards and noobs.

Sir Michael

Lol, I can see the pattern late 2015/early 2016. The population increases between Lowriders and Executives, drops and rises again at the January Update, and starts to decrease again. I would have thought there were more GTA V players on Steam than that.. I wish we can see the console statistics.

Majority of folks spend their time in free roam rather than the same year old heists and even older missions.

Plus most everyone knows better than to heist with randums. I still foolishly try every now and then but always leave, mad.

Pressure Drop

I don't think I'll ever heist with randoms again unless they do another 2x $$ - i recommend contact missions though, can always usually fill them at any time once you learn the best ones (los santos connection / coveted etc) - and plus if someone dies you do not all fail ;)

I don't know about consoles, but I get a lot of random heist invites on PC.

Joining a random heist is not the best idea, but there are ways to handle that to avoid getting mad.

If I join a random heist it will need to be on hard with player saved outfits. It can't be fleeca or series a, and I normally won't join prison break.

People don't usually accept invites because honestly, heists are always going on BUT there's most likely 5 other people sending heist invites and yours just so happen to be caught in the middle and they get ignored.

Also, with Martin spamming with his useless invites to do adversary modes, people just tend to ignore phone invites. Just keep trying.

Are you in an invite only? People may not be able to connect to you quick enough. Make sure to host in a Public lobby. That's all I can think of as to why no one is joining.

I have had fairly decent luck joining random heists. I'd say slightly better than 1 in 3 works out OK. Some I won't join if everybody doesn't have a mic unless I'm really feeling generous but even then I've been pleasantly surprised. Did Deliver EMP, Prison Break finale, and Humane Labs Raid in the last few weeks with randoms with no mics. EMP took a few tries, Prison Break we made it second try, and Humane Labs we did first try.

I promise you, if you spend a day or two joining random heists of others you'll meet enough ppl who are competent that can team up with you in future to do your stuff.

The matchmaking in this game is not all that. That doesn't help. Other than that, all you can do is what Alisha said.

Personally, I'd just opt to get some people together. Could be from this site, friends, anything's better than randoms (from my experiences).

Everytime someone says the pc version is dead due to modders cheaters, i just facepalm. This blind hate against pc on this forum is so ridiculous. I bet 90% of the people that claim such things don't even own a pc that is capable of running this game, therefore they don't have any right to judge at all.

Back on topic, pc version is anything but dead, sometimes it takes 2 minutes to find 3 more randoms for heists, sometimes it takes a bit longer.

I'm always willing to do heists, add me and i can help you out.

Damn. That's not a slow fade, that's an outright collapse! I would also love to see how this compares to consoles.

If the collapse represented here (70%+) is echoed by the console playerbase, It becomes clear why R* may have decided to limit GTA:O DLC support. R* themselves may have determined GTA:O has jumped the shark too. I had guessed 50% of the playerbase overall had left due just this year because out of all my friends only the PBMO members are the only ones that are regularly playing GTA:O anymore.

Actually, that graph is really depressing. GTA:O was always expected to slowly lose players, but the bottom falling out - yikes. Nothing seems to be on the horizon to save what's left of the playerbase.

Sad.

A few things to note.

PC never had a huge playerbase when compared to consoles.

This game was designed to play with friends, if you are waiting for randoms then you are doing it wrong my friend.

Most games by now are dead and gone 3 years in, having as many players as we do on any platform is impressive to me.

I think we'll find out at the E3 whether this game still has a future or not. If they pull the plug out now then I guess they fooled us big time with that interview last year. In any case, they have a very nasty, corporate way of communicating with their fanbase. The sad thing is that they can afford it because everyone will continue to buy their games anyway.
