f*ck dem kids. I'm never having kids we got 7 billion people in the world we don't need more. Bringing a kid into the world is a huge responsibility that I don't think I'd be able to take care of or raise properly. Not only does it cost a lot of money to raise a kid but then you gotta worry like a parent. Worry about them not getting kidnapped, raped, killed every day. Worry about what schools they go to, the neighborhood you live in, bad influences on them. I don't need that stress in my life. Then they might grow up and be ungrateful for everything you've done for them or they screw up.

I'm like this with my cats & parents every second. If mere animals put this kind of anxiety on me, imagine real children of my own. Ain't happening, lol.

Once me and my wife decided against having kids, we felt this pressure ease. It isn't like we were being pushed, but there's this unspoken expectation that I think you inflate from peers and especially family members. We've never felt like we had to, but it's been nice because my sister-in-law now has a two year old. She's fulfilled that infantile obligation for us, so we get to do all the cool aunt and uncle things before handing them back to her. I'm thinking hand rolling cigarettes, card-counting and crop cultivation would be excellent skills to impart before the little tyke starts school. Then he can open up a potato farming business to get him through school dinners.

So Chrome has started doing this weird glitch where if you typed in the URL of the site you wanna visit it kind of like glitches out once you click Enter and it says shtich like "chrome=[stuff that I can't read here]" before finally figuring out how it works and head into whatever site you're trying to go to while highlighting the URL address..... a rather weird and sometimes annoying bug. Especially if you're like me who constantly spams the Spacebar key to scroll down, because it does nothing when that bug happens until you click elsewhere.

Anybody have ever experienced this glitch before?

I went up for a run to the takeaway joint last night and it is disgusting how many people I came across walking in the dark with no high visibility clothing what so ever. This is in an area that's barely covered by street lights unless you go into one of the dead end streets. I guess common sense was left at home during the pandemic madness.

Same people also insist on walking on the edge of the road right close by to cars travelling by. Not very smart people.

I miss the times when social media was a place where the average joe would post pics of their pets, meet new people, make new friends... I was never really a fan of it but at least it was bearable back then.

Social media has mutated into something unbearable for me. To be perfectly honest it changed my opinions regarding free speech. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, those platforms became an awesome place for anyone with twisted opinions to share them to the world. Of course most of the people will not follow, the problem is that some will.

I believe those platforms weaken newer generation's confidence, hell at some point it weakend mine until I snapped out of it. I am really at a loss for words regarding the topic, because so many thoughts go through my head on that topic. Mostly hate I can't really put into words.

So basically what I'm trying to say is that I agree with you 101%

To an extent I'd agree, but at the same time a majority of the content you see on whatever platform is depicted by whoever you choose to follow/add on those platforms.

The Time Ranger

I enjoy browsing reddit but i'm going to start tapering off how much time I spend on the popular tab. It's becoming more and more like Facebook, misery pórn followed by outrage pórn followed by actual pórn. I don't think it's healthy to be reading about some atrocity that happened out in Bumf*ck Ohio, then read the droves of comments baying for blood.

I'm not trying to bury my head in the sand, bad things happen, you can't deny that, and the fact that attention is being brought to these things is good, but is reading about some horrible crime that will put me in a bad mood really worth it. I spend 20 minutes each day reading the national and international news to try and be somewhat informed, plenty of misery there, from now on i'l try and stick to my subs and read more lighthearted content.

Kinda crazy how Champion went from that brand that you saw that was cheap avoided it and if you were caught wearing it people would make fun of you to now being one of the most popular brands now.

I find it so weird that people order casual food from Amazon. I mean I can imagine that if you want to try American snacks and you don't live in the USA you would order it from there but are there people who do their groceries on Amazon?

Me and my wife long debated setting up a subscription service on Amazon for certain groceries we buy frequently, but fuck Jeff Bezos.

The sorry fact is I still use Amazon every now and again because of convenience. I live in the middle of nowhere but they still manage to get whatever I order delivered promptly. One example is cat food - I can get a 6kg bag in 12 hours at a fraction of the price compared to supermarkets. As much as I'd celebrate the downfall of Bezos, I'm hooked by how easy it all is. Supporting local businesses would be easy if they didn't charge thrice as much.

They're probably charging twice/thrice as much because of the convenience too. In Amazon's (or any similar company for that matter) case, you order the stuff then have to wait until it gets there. In supermarkets you just drive there, pick the stuff & then pay.

Unless the price difference is ridiculous ofc. I dunno, I feel like I shouldn't be talking much about all this because I've never really tried buying anything online or have anything shipped for me.

World of difference, really. Some goods are sold at a real bargain and it can be hard to match on the high street or any other online market. I try to limit what I buy on Amazon because of how badly they treat their staff. Honestly, it's so easy - it's hard not to look at them as a primary seller for even the most innocuous of goods. It's especially difficult in the times we're living in now because a lot of what I needed is available on Amazon, and many of the stores near me have been closed for months.

Ehh typically yeah but when it comes to some items it is cheaper to buy them from Amazon in bulk such as snacks as in store.

Let's say you buy tortila chip often at $4 a bag while on amazon they may only be $1.99 but you really can do your grocery shopping on amazon for dry/shelf stable goods which can be good for those who are disabled or live in areas where going to the store is an all day thing so they can buy the bulk of their items on amazon and would only need to stock up on perishables.

Grocery delivery here in the U.S is brand new and a lot of stores only started doing it with the pandemic none of the stores in my area offered delivery service until my state was shut down the only personal shopping they offered was shop and pickup.

I work at Whole foods we get Amazon shoppers in there everyday and they shove their phones in our faces looking for stuff. Buying groceries online is convenient for some people. Especially now with COVID-19. I prefer going to the store and buying my things in person they do charge you extra if you order online also not everything you can get at the store is available online so if you're looking for a particular thing It's best to go in person sometimes.

I've only bought groceries online once or twice but not from Amazon from instacart.

There's this service called peapod that's been around since like the 90s but it's not available in most of the country.

i've heard of them before but they were usually only avaible in major cities or major chains while in the area i live in is 20 miles from the nearest major cities so we're always last to get services such as DoorDash, Amazon Delivery and now Grovery Delivery.

Wal*Mart was the first to offer delivery for $10-$15 piror to the pandemic and then local grocery stores started offering it after the pandemic and can cost between $4.99 to $10 depending on what time you want the delivery, I only used them once during the pandemic and won't use them again as they put heavy cans on top of my bread smashing it, broke 15 out of 24 eggs, forgot several items on the list.

We use Instacart which is conveniently hooked up with our regular stores.  It has been a pleasant experience to say the least.

Gotta say we are totally looking forward to getting back to shopping in person again.  We have been all delivery during lockdown since mid March.

Does anybody knows what causes this and how can I fix it? A re-installation of Windows did jack sh*t, if anything it became worse. The f*ckhead my dad took my laptop to did nothing other than installing an illegal copy of Win7 which made my laptop even worse than it was before. Note to self: Stop downloading ANY Updates or give your device the permission of downloading updates unless its for your PS4. All this sh*t started because I turned Windows Automatic Update on. Dammit.

I did try googling out what this thing is and even tried several solutions. Nope, none of them work. And "SCVHost.exe" still gets spammed when I turn on my laptop (or after visiting Windows Update page) and start eating my RAM and otherwise making my laptop slower than a snail (which is why I keep Windows Task Manager open because then I'll be able to shut down that thing and prevent my laptop from getting slowed down). Nothing worked for me, I'm afraid that software-resetting my laptop won't do anything like last time. :/

Disable Windows Update, some pirated windows 7 copies have an issue where svchost starts leaking memory from Windows Update.

That's the thing though:

  1. I can't, the entire Win. Update page is blank.
  2. This issue has been around long before I/my dad took it to the idiot IT guy, so it's not an illegal Win copy issue. Whole reason why I had this thing formatted/had a Windows reinstall was because of the svchost issue. My PC didn't had this problem back when my father's idiot friend (separate guy) replaced my PC's Win10 with a pirated Win7 copy instead.

Reformat and rebuild yourself from a media disk or bootable USB. Don't trust some pleb with fake copies to do it.

FWIW the behaviour you describe from svchost could actually be entirely normal in a system with poor specs and low ram. There's certainly nothing obviously wrong with that task manager screen grab.

@ten-a-penny When Windows boots press Windows key + r, type services.msc and press enter, find Windows Update and disable it.

@sivispacem Some 7 versions (SP1 afaik) and any illegitimate copies based off it have that issue with svchost (well technically netsvcs running under svchost) where it leaks memory abundantly. Had the same issue a couple years back.

Nope, my laptop isn't that weak to have this issue going rampant. Besides, I've had this thing since 2015 and I've never, ever experienced any sort of a problem with Windows in any possible way until now. Never ran into any bug or any Windows-related problem until I turned Windows Update on from the Action Center. Totally not on my laptop's specs, since this never happened on my two other laptops which are much weaker than this one.

Also about the Windows Task Manager: Nothing appear there because I shut down the "bugged" svchost the moment it pops because if I leave it on for even a half-second it slows my laptop to a crawl. Even Windows Task Manager itself becomes very slow.

Tried that too but Windows Update simply doesn't appear there. :/ I also tried the CMD method and that didn't work either. Only place I didn't try anything in is the Boot screen and I doubt that it'll have anything to help.

Upgrade to Windows 10? If you have a valid win 7 key (like from a sticker on the computer) its still possible with some work (find download a 7 ISO, install, download win 10 iso, install)
