I never realized how much I relied on work to keep a routine in my life. I've been at home doing jack sh*t since I got fired really besides applying to dozens of positions elsewhere, playing games, and sleeping into the afternoon. I can't even go to the gym I had paid for b/c it's closed down due to the virus -- life sucks

You’re back! That is SO awesome!  I am so excited right now, I don’t even know where to begin! Are you back for good this time? Also, apparently JPFL and Tycek have been semi active here lately! We’re getting more great GTA IV/EFLC fans back! All who we need back are Uncle Vlad, PhillBellic, Drunken Cowboy, Crossbones, and Tommy1233, and we will be rocking and rolling!

I have a question for y'all: what's the last "major" update for Windows 7? My PC can't connect to the internet (our "router" only provides wireless connection and PC's normally don't have wireless capabilities) so I can't just download Windows updates directly from the Control Panel, and I've Googled it out but didn't find anything. To be honest I'm getting sick of the constant "hurr durr you're missing the "api-ms-whateverafterthat" file" errors that pop up solely because nVidia Web Helper (whatever that is, I only have nVidia Experience installed and I doubt that it have this thing) is too stupid to shut up about it.

What I've been doing is trying to stick to a routine/schedule every day just to keep some semblance of normality, even if it's little things like waking up a a certain time, showering and getting ready (because lets face it it's real easy to slouch around in your pj's all day), tidying up your house/living area, taking dogs out/getting exercise (in England we've been allowed one hour of socially distanced exercise in our local area), basically all the tasks you'd do on a normal day but somewhat regimented. If there's any sort of tasks/hobbies/etc you've been putting off, now's a great time for it - lot of people getting into cooking properly now. It sucks but it is what it is so might aswell try to make the best of a bad situation.

Not sure if it's major but the last official W7 update was KB4534310. That being said MS has said goodbye to W7 and the only updates come through an ESU licence (which can easily be obtained) but given your rig doesn't have internet access not sure if that's worth looking into. That being said if you do have another PC/laptop that has internet access, you can connect it to the Windows 7 pc with an ethernet cable and bridge the connections which will then give it internet access and you can download the updates from MS update. Ideally it's probably time to move on from Windows 7 though.

That's the thing tho, me being me I have no idea where did I put the Ethernet cable, lol. I'll just download it on either my phone or my laptop and then send it to my PC from there.

 

You peaked my interest: there's this weird issue with my laptop where, I think, a virus (if its even a virus) "activates" itself after turning the thing on after a couple minutes. According to Windows Task Manager an .exe "appears" with gigantic Memory figures (like a minimum of 100K when the highest/most demanding thing running barely hits 70K) which in turn slows my laptop to a crawl unless I End that Process. This thing turn itself on twice, when i first turn it on and again after I End Process (it returns again eating RAM faster than before), but once I shut it down a second time it doesn't return again. Defo a virus or something similar because shutting down doesn't mess with the system at all.

 

I don't even know where it came from, all I remember was turning Automatic Updates from the Control Panel. Then it "stroke" the next day. Not even a complete Software/formatting of my laptop fixed it. It drove me nuts and the idiot who tried to fix it have no idea what it is, lol.

Is it a Windows 7 laptop? Windows 7 had an issue with Windows update where it would leak memory relatively quickly and given it started happening after you enabled updates and the description is similar it could be that, though I think it was the svchost process. If you open Component Services, click the services tab, find Windows Update and change the startup type to disabled then reboot the system it'll be easy to see if that's the issue. If it's not that, download Malwarebytes and run it.

Yep, that's it. Forgot to mention something (because ofc, thanks brain): the Windows Update panel/section looks.... weird, in my device. I'm terrible at explaining but here it goes: instead of the normal text you get anywhere, it just displayed weird hashtag symbols all over, even the buttons you click on (i.e "Apply") are blank. Dumb me clicked on something, and ever since then this issue started. Not even the Software-ing fixed it.

Ever consider creative writing, maybe a short story or a Gta concept to put in the Gta series section. There's a writers section here, it's quiet but has good advice. I'm intending to start a little project myself.
