It's kind of funny how this year was really the year where I was finally sort of getting out of my rut, and getting out and socialising more and then now it's being advised to stay away from people and stay home. I swear I'm cursed 😂 I spent all those years introverted and the one year I stop being like that, I'm getting permission to be that way. Interesting how the world works sometimes.

Anyone else have a similar story? 2020 was the year I was hoping to get my sh*t together and I was during January and February, and it's just been getting progressively crazier each month. So much has happened.

I need to make sure I don't come on here more than a couple of times a week as I have struggled with internet addiction in the past and being on computers so much. Sometimes I forget to unplug.

You can still work on yourself despite what's going on, even if your social interaction might be limited. You could catch up on some reading, learn to cook, practice a new language or find a new hobby. Personal development begins at home.

As my gym's closed I've been weightlifting in the garden. Training outside is really nice, especially with the weather how it is currently.

On the flip side, constant working from home does seem to bring the temptation to crack open a cold beer at around 4:30.

To have Doom operate as a new game while maintaining it's history and core is an amazing feat.  I'm serious.

No kidding, after 2 hours of playing whenever I close my eyes the only thing I see are flashing demons ready to be glory killed. Kinda takes it out of you.

Todd Dammit you two, I'm dying to get this game and you two are teasing the f*ck out of me. I NEEEED IT. I've been like that when I got DooM 2016, I was extremely bummed when I saw the game for sale before buying my PS4. My EXCITEMENT when I've found out that my father's friend had this game on the PS4. Binge-played the f*ck out of it, until I got my PC and (surprise) DooM 2016 on it. Just finished that game a couple days ago in preparations for DooM Eternal..... only to find out that neither of the stores I go to have it yet.

You should've seen my face yesterday.

Me: Do you have DooM Eternal?

Cashier: Huh?

Me: DooM Eternal. DO you have it?

Him: DooM? That zombie game? Yeah. <Hands DooM 2016 instead>

Me:...... I have that game.... and its not a zombie game. It doesn't even have zombies (DooM Eternal might have zombies, but they're more like possessed folks than actual zombies, and that's DooM Eternal, not DooM 2016). I'm looking for DooM Eternal<Shows him the Deluxe Edition coverart>

Him: Nah, sorry, we don't have it yet.

Me: :(

Never been angry and sad/disappointed like this for a good while, lol. Another store said it should be here after about two maybe three days (& since this happened yesterday, either tomorrow or the day after). Literally listening to the DooM Hunter Boss OST as I'm typing this, that should set the tone!

I get you, I had to get the digital version because the physical one I pre-ordered like a year ago hasn't even shipped due to this whole corona business. It's a lot of fun but there's a bit too much platforming for my tastes, and staying on top of the situation when you're getting gang banged by demons left and right does tire you out quite a bit at the end.

I'd do this (even the cashier suggested it), but the thing is I WANT that Preorder bonus. You see, whoever purchases/ships PS3 and PS4 games for selling (AKA buying merchandise for sales) apparently Preorders these games in the bulks because nearly every single PS3/4 game I've ever bought came with the Preorder bonus tucked in with it. So if you wanted the Preorder bonus you don't have to around asking people if they allow you to... well, Preorder stuff physically. Now, I was planning from the start to Preorder the game digitally but lated on changed my mind and went with the idea of just buying the physical copy since it'll just come with the Preorder bonus/code (never ever Preordered anything digitally and since its a lot of cash I was afraid to f*ck it up somehow and lose +$400 in local currency.... didn't want the risk). Now, had I actually Preordered the thing from PSStore none of this would've happened but I was too afraid to f*ck it up somehow. Now I'm wasting days & time waiting for this sh*t to drop off so I can F-I-N-A-L-L-Y get to play it.

That's true.

I just think it's a shame I can't really work on the social ascept of my life which is something I've always struggled with. I've never had issues keeping myself entertained and finding ways to keep my lonely brain occupied.

I actually read Stephen King's Misery the past month and really enjoyed it. That was my first book I've enjoyed in who knows how many years, since School at least.

I feel this, I've never really had issues dealing with being alone/occupying myself but that's always been with the capability of knowing you can go out, socialize and have human interaction. Take that away for an indefinite period and it's easy for it to start taking it's toll.

A lot of people I know are mentioning how bored they are at home and how there is 'nothing to do' and I've honestly been fine because I spent all those years learning how to keep my brain active with nobody around. Whilst I want to be more social, I think it's a vital skill for anybody to learn, being happy on your own and not needing to have people around all the time.

UK is on lockdown of sorts for three weeks now, which is definitely a long time if you're used to seeing other friends. I imagine I'll be lost in my thoughts sometimes as there is no 'escape'.

I'll be honest, part of the reason why I signed up to the forum again was to keep myself 'social' and distracted during these tough months. I don't use Twitter or Facebook anymore, so my options are limited for conversation. Afterwards I'll likely go back to not being on the internet/computer at all or any forums and continue working on myself.

Surprised to see that person gone away so suddenly.

While I have seen him post a few times, I'm not familiar with Billy Russo, his past, or anything like that. So I am not in the best position to say or agree that that was him.

Hmm, right, this website... Isn't it strange how there's an entire fansite dedicated to one of the most popular videogame franchises in the world, yet it doesn't have a strong fandom?

Yes, aside from the vast amount of  "modders" who port assets from other games or just tweak the code of the vanilla game, the creative bulk of this "fandom" goes to modding original content. But, this franchise is much more popular on consoles than it is on PC, such as the case with GTA V. Most copies were bought by casual fans who shelve it once they're satisfied, or fed up if they solely bought it for Online, not dedicated fans who played it their whole life and poured some of their passion into high-quality fan creations.

A mere glimpse at popular franchises that have nowhere near sold as many copies as GTA V, or even GTA IV and San Andreas, shows what I mean. The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises both have a thriving modding community AND an equally lively creative fanbase, with dedicated discussions to their favorite franchise's lore and appreciation shown through art and music and other creative mediums. Neither of these franchises generated over a billion dollars in revenue from a single game, but hell, at least they feel alive, and worthy of putting energy into.

Rockstar had potential with Red Dead Redemption, a series that focused more on characters and narrative than wanton explosions and flashy colors, but it evaporated too soon. Not like they care anyway, with their Online mode obsession and business ownership/delivery driver simulator, cowboy edition for RDO or pseudo sci-fi modern edition for GTAO. And no, quirky or edgy Snapmatics doesn't constitute as original content. It's a creative endeavor, with thought put into it, but it doesn't show as much appreciation as art or passionate debates about how the fictional universe functions.

I saw @Payne at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

sh*thole? I can easily think of three dozen sites that can qualify as true sh*tholes, but this site is far from it.

it's a dead website, made for a franchise with a creatively-lacking fandom.

89.7% of the traffic is made of visitors, as in people from other websites searching for information they can only reliably find here, and leaving soon after they're satisfied.

This traffic also spike whenever GTAO or RDO get updated, and, as usual, it's from visitors.

Except the majority of these mods are assets ripped from other games, edits of in-game assets or code, or addition of new scripts. I've already addressed this argument before you made it at the near-top of this page.

If any game is worthy of that "plethora" argument, it's definitely Skyrim. And the Elder Scrolls fanbase is a never-ending fountain of creativity and passion, unlike Grand Theft Auto's.

plenty of mods out there made from scratch, as for the plethora argument there's been MANY scenes emerge out of GTA; modding, stunting, machinimas, speedrunners, multiplayer (vcmp/samp), dyom, beta hunters etc, all with their own caveats, nuances or in some cases custom made tools specifically for those games (txdws/magictxd, img tool, kams 3ds/dragonff, the list goes on).

Here's a video made by my friend that highlights how far these scenes can go:

On the surface yeah it's a stunt video, but really look at the content. First you're talking hundreds if not thousands of hours put into a game from 2003 to abuse and take advantage of game mechanics, aided by custom SCM mods created by a stunter for stunters, custom vehicle skins made possible by programs like TXD workshop or tools like Freeplay to get custom camera angles in replays. It's been around 15/16 years since the first stunt video was released (Decan's auto stunt reel) and videos are still coming out regularly - if that's not an indicator of passion I don't know what is.

Plenty? Sure, I can think of some. A few even inspired Rockstar to plagiarize the lore-friendly content that the modding community made, like that not-Hellcat vehicle, which is impressive in its own right. However, far more than plenty of mods were made from scratch for franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, and they have nowhere near sold as much as GTA V has.

31 minutes ago, Blaze said:

I have no idea why you're suggesting this is exclusive to GTA. This is expected from any popular game with a sizeable PC fanbase, aside from gimmicks such as the 'stunting', and speedrunning is something GTA V is renowned for, despite how unfriendly it is speedrun in terms of design, otherwise the speedrunners I know and watch wouldn't exploit glitches or use a specific version of the game.

Anyway, multiplayers? Skyrim and Morrowind both have fanmade multiplayer modes, but that's not something the core fanbase of the TES franchise desire. And GTA V's fanmade multiplayers, such as FiveM, are what's really popular here, not vcmp or samp. The likes of Broughy with their custom servers, or certain streamers who roleplay as citizens or cops & robbers deserve the credit for making GTA V so popular on Twitch.

45 minutes ago, Blaze said:

On the surface yeah it's a stunt video, but really look at the content.

This is impressive in its own right, don't get me wrong, but I personally don't see customized ramps and loops as something equal to the countless DLC-sized content that Skyrim gets every year.

Beyond Skyrim: Bruma. Wheels of Lull. Unhindered remakes of previous games like Oblivion and Morrowind using Skyrim's engine and mechanics, complete with all new music re-composed by professional fans to be refreshing yet faithful to the game they're remaking. Even New Vegas is in the process of being reborn using Fallout 4's engine, with all-new assets to recreate New Vegas's own asset.

Passion does exist in the GTA fanbase, but by and large, it's honestly (and disappointingly) minuscule, very strange for a franchise as popular and profitable as this one. I can't even blame the fanbase for this one, since Take-two actively throttles the modding community on almost everything, what with all the private dicks and corporate bull they send and enforce. It's why Liberty City can't be remade, or GTA IV, or even RDR1. FiveM itself had lots of quarrels with Rockstar and Take two at its inception due to concerns of 'competing' with Online, but that's been diplomatically been overcome, thankfully. At least Bethesda and Obsidian don't regard their fanbase as worthless leeches, hence why there's no issue in fan-projects like the ones I stated above.

But, passion isn't exclusive to modding. GTA also has minuscule appreciation being shown through art, music, lore discussions and the like. All that regularly gets discussed is cut content, the best way to grind, the latest money exploits, and wishlists for the next update. Pokemon is an almost equally popular franchise to GTA, even when its latest game on the hottest console in the past five years hasn't generated nearly a billion dollars in revenue like GTA V has in the first three days alone. And yet, Pokemon has an exponentially higher amount of dedicated fans, with an equally abundant amount of fan creations. Even a single mildly popular Pokemon has more fanart than GTA V ever received since its inception.

I'll end my nerdy rant here. I'm not saying this in a condescending manner and claiming it as the objective truth, but I am stating my observation. Still, I don't expect you to agree with me, nor wish that you do, but I do appreciate you've read my piece.
