Don't know if this is common knowledge or not but I think it's pretty cool. Do you guys remember those whispers that the original xbox would make if it was left alone long enough? Here there are for reference.

 

Anyone who owned an original Xbox remembers the first time they were alone in the room with the console while it was sitting on the dashboard doing nothing. The silence of whatever you were doing was broken by crazy whispers, and it didnt take long to figure out that those whispers were coming from the television thanks to your Xbox. It turns out those sounds werent just randomly generated sounds on a loop. What you were hearing was a modified recording of Apollo mission conversations, which are publicly available for anyone to listen to.

I found that out recently, it took me down a rabbit hole regarding some of the lesser known features of consoles opening screens. For example, on the PS2, the amount of columns (as seen here) represent the saved data on your memory card. If you have no memory card in, things look a little more baron.

Dunno if you have a PS4, but if you do, I highly recommend grabbing the PS2 legacy theme from the store. It's 2.99$ and the only theme I ever decided to spend money on. It's excellent.

I do have a PS4, and the Legacy skin is the one I'm using. It felt only right - the one before was the anniversary skin that made everything look like a PlayStation 1 menu. I loved the grey, the floating symbols and the sounds. Every time I hear the PS2 boot-up sound on my PS4, I wonder if I've come full circle, playing on a current generation console chasing how I felt 15 years ago.
