Anybody ever just go on a journey through Wikipedia, looking at random pages, I read an interesting one recently about something called Paris Syndrome. When some people visit Paris, it seems to effect Japanese tourists the most, visitors can experience delusions, hallucinations, feelings of persecution, dizziness and vomiting among other symptoms.

Some of the reasons given are culture shock, expecting Paris to be very different, and home sickness, the page says "according to an administrator at the Japanese embassy in France, around 20 Japanese tourists a year are affected by the syndrome"

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome

Thought it was pretty interesting, while this occurance is quite extreme has anyone else suffered from a culture shock or found that expectations were very different from reality.

So you may enjoy this page then. It's a compilation of the most unusual and interesting Wikipedia pages, and it's personally, my favorite Wikipedia page of all time.

Have fun!

Where was Reagan when 9/11 happened? Where was Eisenhower during the Iranian revolution????? Where was FDR when Saigon fell????

In all seriousness, I really think that most Trump voters only have a 4 year memory span and that's actually quite concerning...

Or this is just bait.

Watching this show Dark Matter... it's hard to get used to all the damned Canadian accents. It's in all Sci Fi these days.

I suppose that's my Yankee Privilege showing.

I've seen this posted before by some Twitter users, so I guess it started as an actual thing, but it became sort of a meme eventually.

Dark Matter is really good. Partly because it's a very dystopian future with big business calling the shots rather than Government. Given the way politics is bending more and more to business, I'm sure this is going to happen once we get off this planet.

Dark Matter is on my list, but The Expanse is life. Alex and Amos are easily one of my favourite TV characters in years.

I actually love Dark Matter, it's like a not-quite-as-good Firefly spinoff almost. This is my second watchthrough, I just find my annoyance with my northern neighbors accent amusing.

And Scratch; yeah, The Expanse is the best thing on TV right now. Well... tied with the spirit of what Game of Thrones was. Let's hope Fred Johnson keeps his wits about him...

Dark Matter looks good, some Stargate alumni show up during it so I'm going to look forward to that when I start watching.

No job is worth your happiness, if your feeling better now then you've made the right decision. Plenty more jobbys on the jobby tree :)

So a very outdated atomic reactor in Belgium within a 100km range of where I live has been marked as dangerous by the media. They discovered new cracks and a higher radiation level. The news scared the sh*t out of me. If something would go terribly wrong, we can as well call it the new Fukushima in middle europe.

Damnit Belgium, they just won't listen and surrounding countries will also suffer if something goes wrong. The reactor has been out of order and then back up a couple times now and people protest against it constantly.

While Germans panic, rightfully panic, the Dutch news almost keep silent about it. Yet, the government will sent out free jodium pills to certain groups of people soon. Reading it felt like it's fake sh*t, the goverment's website reasurres this is just in case something would go wrong in the future.

So why now think about it so suddenly? It's because of the belgian reactors, they just won't admit it. Something has clearly gone wrong here.

Not sure if it's the right topic, neither if it's worth an own thread.

The Iodine pill thing seems like a political conspiracy. It's probably got more to do with domestic policy than it does any real threat. I'm not seeing any reports of noticeably elevated radiation levels. The microcracking issue is something that seems, if not common then certainly a known issue is many second and early third generation reactors.

I think it's got much more to do with domestic German opposition and general paranoia over nuclear power. Which is frankly a bit silly.

Yes I do it all the time. I go to look up somethin and then I think like "hey remember _____"? And then I go search for it. A few days ago I've spent an hour reading about a flight attendant from YU that survived a 10km fall when her plane exploded. crazy sh*t

I like playing a game of Godwin every now and again. It's probably got a few names, but I call it Godwin. It's essentially where you click a random article and see how many pages it takes to get to Adolf Hitler. The fewer pages the better. There's more tactics involved than you'd think, especially on larger articles because some links may get you there quicker than others. Finding a link to Austria is always a safe bet.

You could play it with any subject really. Fortunately, it doesn't always have to be Hitler.

Just via recommendations? My problem is I wind up with the same theme. The more you watch, the more it learns. It's about the only time I don't mind being spied on. I love how YouTube seems to learn what I like. It almost consistently spits out videos I never knew I was interested in, like that documentary about the Amish.

I give MySpace a lot of credit, because that's how I first got to learn HTML and edit my page beyond just changing colours and layouts. I felt like such a winner when I figured out how to make my extended network bar read anything I wanted to. The more things change, the more things stay the same - I feel the same level of pride whenever I change my colleague's name to "Fart" on our company's system.

Same. I posted a lot of stupid sh*t on Myspace back when i was in highschool. And tbh i had way more friends than on Facebook. I had friends back from my hometown, most of my Cousins, and all of my high school homies aswell.

Things were so simple back in those days scrolling through old pics from the 2000's.
