hover mode does not indicate a noob

and yes I'm talking about pvp

people seem to think that a hydra in vtol mode is some noob who can't figure out how to fly streight.

ok, 90% of the time you're correct. but hover mode is the best way to kill insurgents, by focusing fire on them and causing them to crash, then keeping up the fire to finish it.

it is also very good for certain pieces of cover like carparks, and if you can aim quickly, for killing anyone in the city or in certain open areas like beaches. (not personally reccomended)

the hydra can also tank one homing rocked and remain usable while hovering (so s hovering hydra is like a good version of a savage but with much better cannon range)

yes, it's handling is sh*t, but using the dive to hover trick makes it better and so do a few other things (which I cba with listing as that thread already exists)

Its way too slow to accelerate, if you do go in hover mode you need to be sure there is no one around really or you are a easy target to a homing rocket or RPG. Too risky to use in free mode for me.

That just about says it all.

The only times I hover are when doing non-PvP stuff, when following an Insurgent *with no one else around to kill me*, or if someone's hiding under a bridge or inside a parking garage, and I'm pretty sure I can hover downward and kill them before they manage to fire a rocket at me. Almost always though, if you are using a jet to kill people and want them not to kill you, you keep moving and don't hover.

hover mode is a noobs thing, you would get killed my homing missile or a simple rpg, i'd rather do a couple cannon passes than risking getting blow up by getting into hover mode.

to be honest the only time i ever use that mode in a combat situation was in jets vs insurgents lts and i ended up killed!

It has a few uses, as long as you can do it properly. Sure, it's a little risky, but where's the fun if you're always playing it safe?

If things aren't going your way in a dogfight, there are a few ways you can use it there too. It's very risky, so should be the final trick up your sleeve, but it can work. Just earlier now I got someone with it.

This thread is spot on.

So is my homing launcher.

Hover mode at dumbass times i.e when shadow is holding his homing launcher, indicates a noob move.

Not really safe to use it in pvp; so easy to shoot down hover jets with rpgs, snipers and miniguns. But sometimes it can be useful and fun to use, even though I rarely use the Hydra

Here's the one I was talking about earlier:

The dogfight wasn't going so well, so there wasn't much to lose.

It is very risky, so you should only use it in a dogfight if things aren't looking so great. But if you have to, sometimes it can save you.

The hydra is so slow to accelerate out of hover mode I would never do it.

Then again I am never in one.

I know lol, I'm saying it would be very stupid for someone to go into hover mode whilst you were around with your launcher.

Agreed. One of the best Hydra pilots I ever saw could dodge missiles from the ground and even sometimes from the air in hover mode. Honestly, I have no idea how he did it. Now, since this is incredibly difficult, almost all pilots simply avoid using hover mode at all (which then defaults most instances it is the clueless guy that is using it). But you are right, not always.

Nice! Can you show use a clip where you dive and then switch to hover mode? Seen that on AngryBird's channel.

I've only got a gif of that at the moment, but next time I'm on I'll try get a video. Here it is anyway:

Also a weird kind of thing where I used hover to help me turn:

Nice! But I actually misswrote that. I meant where you are going down then switch to hover mode, then pick someone off and go back to normal mode and fly off. My bad, sorry.

I figured some visual proof could help to prove this thread's truthfulness.

Just like a Hydra in hover mode, your argument was quickly shot down...by yourself? That's interesting.

You seem like the type of guy that says, "people seem to think that clowns are scary. Ok, 90% of the time you're correct." or "people seem to think that giraffes have sore necks. Ok, 90% of the time you're correct."

Please make this a meme, GtaF. This is gold.

I have done that before, but only a handful of times. It's risky, but really satisfying when you pull it off. I'll try to get a video of that next time I play.

Nice gifs man!

Lol, thanks.

cannon passes give them time to hide

this doesn't, and they don't expect it

that is just showing off, when I use that trick I always feel like it's rather pointless given you can just turn normally

Hover mode should only be used for targets under bridges.

You avoid the risk being taken down by starting VTOL mode above the bridge and start circling just like with a heli.

Easy win.
