List of JDM cars

I tried to create a list of all JDM cars out of the sports-, sedans-, compacts- and coupésclass.

I know that most of GTA cars are based on multiple real cars.

Dinka Blista Compact (Honda CRX)

Karin Futo (Toyota AE86)

Karin Dilettante (Toyota Prius)

(Maibatsu Penumbra (Mitsubishi Eclipse)) never sold in Japan

Vulcar Warrener (Nissan Skyline 2000 GTR)

Zirconium Statum (Nissan Skyline R32)

 

EDIT:

Second list for cars that have details of jap cars but are not mainly based on them. (In my perspective, who knows what the creators thought?)

Imponte Ruiner (Nissan 300ZX)

You can tack on the Vulcar Ingot.

At least in GTA IV it had a pretty nice modded gang variant that brought it ever so slightly closer to the Skyline wagons.

Absolute shame they didn't just copy and paste its pre-existing mods and add them in to LSC...

 

Also the Bollokan Prairie (Hyundai Tiburon)

The Banshee is mostly Dodge Viper, but it's got some FD3S RX-7 in it's DNA.

I'm pretty sure everyone who has seen Tokyo Drift went through the Veilside RX-7 phase with their Banshee...

Should probably include the Imponte Ruiner due to its styling influences taken from the Nissan 300ZX Z31 and Mitsubishi Starion; it's not all American muscle by a long shot, and the number of drift related mods available confirm the designer's intentions.

Agree. Althrough I wish that we had proper Z31. I would also add Asea, since it has a lot of influence of Suzuki Aerio/Liana.

The Blista is the Euro R.

 

The Vigero has influences from the Celica.

 

One of the hood options of the 900R has a rotary style intake.

Nah. It's always had the headlights and the Coke bottle shape of the FD. It's got the paint job from the Tokyo Drift Veilside FD, AND the camo paintjob and hood/intake from the Red Bull (I think...) drift FD. Several of the front bumpers are from various FD's (and the 350Z, strangely enough). And that ain't no V10 engine note, either...

I can see what you mean with the Ingot, but it's got FWD and the Nissan Stagea was RWD / AWD

As already mentioned, Hyundai is Korean.

As I said, GTA cars are based on multiple real cars. It's definitely wrong to say that a Sultan has nothing to do with a Subie or a Warrener with a 2000 GTR. Of course, the cars you mentioned fit too.

Yea, I know what you mean, but that V8 doesn't fit.

I didn't know about the Eclipse, will put it in brackets.

With Euro R you mean it's the european version right? Where is the differende to the jap one?

Well, it has a V10 under the hood, no matter what you doo to it.

 

I will edit the list and add a second one for cars that have details of jap cars but are more based of others, such as the Banshee and the Ruiner. It's sometimes hard to tell. In the end it might depend on the perspective.

For the third generation Civic Type R, Honda developed two cars at the same time. The FN2 was designed and first released in Europe as the Type R and was later released in Japan as the Euro R. The sedan FD2 was designed in Japan and is more common in Asia. It is rare to see the FN2 in Japan, much less a modified one.

 

Since GTA cars have minor influences from many cars there are going to be many more cars with minor details from Japanese cars, but there are much fewer cars that actually have a "JDM" style of modification.

 

In America we don't call every Japanese branded car a "JDM car". People who modify cars need to know about differences between American and Japanese versions of cars and which parts they use. We see a lot of the modifications done in Japan using parts we don't have from our dealerships. So many people modify their cars with parts not available in the US domestic market, only the Japanese domestic market, by importing them. There are also whole cars that are imported from Japan. You can say then that these modified cars have JDM mods or JDM style, or that car is a JDM car.

 

In this respect the Penumbra, Prairie, 900R, Ruiner, Asea have the same modification style as some of the cars on your list, but of course there cannot be any JDM parts for third generation Eclipse since that car was never released in Japan.

I'd say it's more like a LS430/Celsior. As it has the 4.3 liter V8 which is most likely a reference to Toyota's UZ engine. It also looks a lot like an LS430.
