Is there any point in buying a helicopter?

The Swift is is the fastest chopper in the entire game, even on par with some of the planes, like the Luxor. So, if you want more speed, you can buy that. Also, you're not always going to get a random chopper just sitting around, so having a chopper of your own guarantees one every single time.

I always fly helicopters in free mode but its no stroll in the park. you need to fly fast and low and use cover. Its a stop start affair, Be it buildings in town or terrain in the country. You need to use 'off radar' plenty, watch the mini map like a hawk, be able to land at a seconds notice, avoiding trees, telegraph poles, lamp posts and cranes. Pretty much everyone has a homing launcher and unlike with hydras, they're all bristling with confidence that they can take you down. And this is just moving around. Attacking other players adds another dimension to this and requires a lot of restraint not to get blinkered

 

There's only one helicopter that can cope with all this, speed and agility far outweigh some extra firepower but the biggest factor is the size. Flying down streets in between buildings is a lot more survivable than plodding along above them.

If I could go back, I would only have the Buzzard, Savage, and Hydra. Not only are Pegasus vehicles a waste of money, but scrolling through the list of ~ 50 vehicles to find the one you want is a hassle.

And just because you think non-lethal helicopters are a waste of money, doesn't mean we shouldn't buy them as well.

Yeah, that was good before the new payout system, but now there's no pint. The quicker you finish the mission, the less money and RP you will attain. Plus, it's good to get some NPC kills, since you'll get RP along the way.

And miss the delights of taking a besra through zancudo tunnel, spawning a Titan in Titan of a job, rigging a gold Luxor with sticky bombs and accidentally letting someone steal it, I too have the full Pegasus list but I love them all in their ways (okay, the mule was a mistake)

Aside from the armed helicopters (well, the Savage and Buzzard; not the worthless Annihilator) and the Cargobob (which you couldn't get since patch 1.11), there isn't much of a need for any other helicopters.

 

The yacht 'copters are useful as they get you from ship to destination quicker and is included in the $7M-$10M price, but those aren't standalone purchases.

 

In the early days of GTAO on old-gen there was more use for on-demand helicopters that weren't rank-locked like the Buzzard and didn't require waiting for the potentially long delivery of the slow Merryweather Maverick, but I'd have a hard time logically justifying the purchase of one for any rank these days

One of my characters has everything pre-heists on his Pegasus list and it sucks because the order makes no sense. (i.e.: the buzzard is #17, though it was bought first)

My other character has a much more concise list with just:

• Rhino (it didn't suck at the time of purchase)
• Duster (it's fun)
• Cargobob (it paid for itself several times with Simeon's HPVs)
• Buzzard
• Crusader (I messed up the Cargobob glitch. I hate this PoS. Such wasted potential)
• Dump (I must have been drunk at the time. I... I... I have no explanation)
• Speeder (it was free and it doesn't suck among boats)
• Vestra (my favorite plane. Can't fly inverted, but it can survive 1-2 Hydra rockets and still land)
• Valkyrie (no real good reason, it's just cool and has nifty nose art)
• Hydra
• Savage (I kind of regret this one as the better weapons don't make up for the sluggish maneuverability, compared to the Buzzard)
• Swift Deluxe (I bought this with hard-glitched Daily Objective money because I wasn't planning on moving to new-gen)

Save for a Savage. Even then, it's mostly for transportation really, unless you're ready to spend a long time practicing.

Functionally the unarmed ones have little to no use. The Maverick and Frogger even less so, since both spawn in free mode helipads anyways. The SuperVolito and Swift at least don't spawn anywhere, so buying one isn't totally pointless.

For free-roam the Buzzard is your best bet against the infamous homing launcher. But if you're the type who likes to grind and play missions then without any doubt it is the Savage. The Savage annihilates the npc rambo's like drones annihilate Isis/Taliban.

The buzzard is really good for VIP missions since you don't have to spend $20000 to spawn it in if you already own one, and helps a lot with Sightseer and Hostile Takeover. Also, helicopters don't always spawn at places like LSIA, and when they do, a lot of times it's a cargobob or some other unarmed helicopter. But obviously it's up to you if you want to buy a helicopter.

kinda a fact that most people who got everything back in the bilionaire....well...atleast many, ended up becoming pure freeroam wariors thzt only care about things armored and armed

not that i disagree with you on the maverick....but i personaly can see why someone woud buy the frogger and swift

A black Swift is hard to see. Very stealthy. Other than the the buzzard, no other chopper is worth the effort of trying to be safe in.
