Gta Online with Monitor?

I had several players in free roam (PS4) discussing tv brands/size and one player swore by gaming on a monitor. He said it makes it better up close because you can see everything without moving your eyes/head like when you play on a big tv?

Currently I play on a 55 inch. I sit pretty close it helps sniping, for me anyway.

Anyone try both? Thoughts?

I prefer a bigger screen I play on my 48" the way I look at it :D bigger screen more to see well not really but more to look at uh I think I worded right *shakes nervously*

Its more relative to the tv size vs how close you sit. You can play on a 55in without moving your eyes, but you have to sit pretty far away relative to a 20 something inch monitor.

It really doesnt matter too much to me since ive played games on large screens, medium size, and on pc monitors. Smaller screens may make text harder to read (but thats probably more of a resolution issue)

It comes down to preference, I play at a desk because I like having my computer next to me I have a 24"

A desk set up is good if you have a keyboard and mouse adapter. PC gaming monitors are generally better than the average living room TV. They offer better clarity and response times.

If the big tv is away far enough it shoudnt matter.

I just have a big tv screen for movies...for playing games the actual size doesnt matter to me

Edit: yea i know....thats what she said

Well myself and most other PC players use monitors.

When shooting in the game I MUCH prefer to be closer to a 22-24'' monitor and use keyboard/mouse, but sometimes if I just want to drive/fly around I use HDMI from my PC and play on my HDTV with a controller. When I'm at my PC desk using a monitor if I get into a jet or am about to race cars/bikes I will pick up my controller because you can seamlessly switch between them on PC mid game.

There is also the issue of a lot of HDTVs having quite a lot of display latency (input lag) and the majority of PC monitors having a drastically lower amount of lag. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it is the amount of time between you pressing a button on your controller and the action happening on screen. Playing on a monitor generally feels a lot more responsive and tightly synced with the controls.

Dude. Look for a used Commodore 64 monitor. 480p baby!

Thanks guys, yeah I sit roughly 3 feet away from my 55inch. I find myself leaning forward to snipe, everything else is fine, it's just sniping lol.

Maybe I need an eye checkup.

Same here, I could never play games on a large screen because I'm short sighted, I had to get glasses, but I've lost them twice now...

Who ever said that is pretty f*cking stupid. If you're having to physically move your head to look at the other side of the screen, then sit closer? A monitor for a console is going to have ZERO benefit. No lower latency, no higher refresh rate, and definitely no higher resolution is going to affect anything.

PC players use monitors because we use a keyboard and mouse, designed for quick and accurate response, something a controller is not. We have higher frame rates to make use of 60FPS+. The monitors we use are typically 60hz(same as standard TV's), but many gamers are going for higher refresh rates, personally I have overclocked my monitor to 80hz so I can get a real and solid 70FPS+ experience. This will not matter on console because you are limited to 30FPS.

I can't wait for the inevitable "I use a 4K TV with my PS4 hurr f*cking durr".

I played on a optimum sized TV in 2013-2014,all was good. Then I had to switch to a really big tv and what I saw was; there was a noticable delay between button moves and character moves. Now,I play on a really small tv,minimum delay but almost no details after 1mt distance lol

I play on either a 42" Samsung or a 37" Panasonic depending on which room my PS4 is in, I tried it on a much smaller TV and hated the fact I couldn't see detail the same as using the bigger TVs, but I was still a little away from the smaller TV when using it.

lol yea you might if you stare at that TV for long periods, and it's worth upgrading your eyes before your monitor if you want to be able to see in true HD :)

I bought a nice monitor for my PC and didn't expect any visual difference since I assumed the graphic cards were up to par, but once I turned on the new screen it was like I had upgraded graphics.

Point is, the size of the screen isn't the biggest factor (mine is 29" I think), it's more the resolution that matters, which on a decent PC monitor is normally more sharp.

It is a matter of taste since GTAO isn't a competitive game but overall the quality is better on monitors than TVs. So it just comes down to whether you like to feel more like your "in the game" by having your face closer to a smaller, sharper screen or sitting back on the couch enjoying a lager view from further away. I can play both on TV or a monitor, I usually stick with the monitor because it's so much prettier IMO.

Also, forgot to add, you can buy monitors made for the standard 16:9 aspect ratio and other ratios as well. You may think, who cares?... But for me I like to play in 16:10 not 16:9 and there are monitors made specifically for that. IMO it makes the objects and characters look more varied, in 16:9 everything looks tall and skinny, with 16:10 it seems every object & character is more varied. One look at a tank or a jet in 16:10 and I'm sure you'd agree they look much better in 16:10.

Screen size and display latency are not related, you could have 2 'optimum' sized tv's that were identical in size with drastically different responsiveness. The key is the image processing that occurs within the TV, how much of it there is an how long it takes.

Some TV's have a 'game mode' what this does is kill some of the image processing that is more suited to doing things like well you wouldn't believe this but watching tv and movies where, if there is a slight delay between you pressing pause or play on your remote and the show pausing/resuming it does not matter.

Monitors on the other hand are designed for you to have a responsive experience using a mouse cursor on it, and you want to see the pointer move immediately as you move your hand and not trail behind it like you are dragging it through soup. Of course, this principle relates directly to gaming because gaming relies so heavily on precise input.

If you are a gamer who has not tried gaming on a nice fast monitor you are missing out imho.

thanks for this good information.I don't have wide knowledge on technology things, delay was probably because of something else but playing experience was a bit different than the other tv.

I'm an old man, and when I first moved from a 42" TV in my living room to a 21" monitor on my desk I was amazed at how much easier I could see everything.

Matter of fact, when my family left me home during a vaction (and that, for the record, was my best vacation ever), I moved my PS4 downstairs to the big TV and home theatre and was promptly miserable at how it was to read text on my screen, again.

So, yeah, sitting at a desk and using a monitor is "easier." Possibly not as satisfying as sitting on a couch, but definatly easier to see.

I've played games on everything from a 13" mini box tv, to a 60"+ flatscreen HD. Honestly, having played a 4 person multiplayer on that 13", which gives each person maybe 3.5" of actual screen, playing on a bigger TV is far better. Currently on a 42" HD and am very happy and will never go smaller.

I alternate between my TV and monitor, and I prefer the monitor. Maybe because my monitor is of a lot higher quality than my TV? I play on a 23" Acer H236HL and it's much better than my 32' Apex TV

Nothing beats playing the game with a controller at your hand while chilling in your bed.

I'd say getting a blowjob while playing the game beats that, but to each their own

I play on a 108" (nine foot) projector screen in the man cave in my basement. 1080p DLP projector connected to a central receiver via HMDI. One thousand watt surround sound system, definitely no complaints from me about not being able to see anything. Flying in first person looks amazing. I've got my couch about ten feet from the screen, it completely fills my field of vision without having to turn my head.

It works pretty good :)
