Since new DLC threads will be always coming and going, and the last one was ruined by the common disappointment with the latest update and the *super exciting* introduction of yet another adversary mode that no one will be playing one week after its released, I guess it's time we get a containment thread to debate about how our beloved game is doing.

So, what do you think about the current state of GTA Online? Has it gotten better or worse since its first months of existence? Sure, judging by most posts on the other thread I know the feeling of disappointment is almost entirely mutual by this point and that this is probably going to end up being an incredibly depressing thread, but it's still an important discussion to have nonetheless. If something, we need to do an autopsy on the matter so we can all move on in peace.

As for me personally,

expresses my opinion better than any post could.

The grass was greener

The light was brighter

The taste was sweeter

The nights of wonder

With friends surrounded

The dawn mist glowing

The water flowing

The endless river

Forever and ever...

Damn, first vote and both were negative. I never vote negatively in these types of polls because I'm just not that negative when it comes to things as broad as GTA:O. To be honest, though, I haven't played GTA:O BY MYSELF FOR FUN in over a month. I bought Farming Simulator, work takes some of my time, and the same-old stuff just doesn't do it for me. GTA:O has been stale for a while which is weird as I used to be a big R* fanboy. I just don't know what game I'll blindly love from now on as GTA seems to be slipping for me.

For me,

expresses my feeling for what GTA:O is. I just can't give up on it, you know? Edited by livejoker

I will always enjoy and spend someee tine on GTA. But this game will be done soon. Even with one more update maybe two of decent size. Some cars periodically a mode or two. I doubt much more will happen. Not complaining. This games old. Time for new and exciting things in the future

I'm very happy with GTA right now and if new content is being added then it will be getting better.

I'm still playing GTA0 on PS3, and starting a new SP and new online character on PC, but I really don't see much hope for GTA0. Too much mindless PvP emphasis and a lot of missed opportunities for rich, fun activities and friendly options. Rockstar created history's most incredible virtual world, and then promptly gave it back to the apes. :p

I just play GTA0 for the virtual world experience, like I played GTA IV with Luis for the drug wars and general fun of playing around in the Liberty City world, or RDR SP before the last John Marston mission, hunting, doing the replayable random events and enjoying the beautiful RDR world. :^:

How can it get worse unless they start cutting out content? Seriously, this game is almost 3 years old and yet people still feel entitled to more, free, better DLC.

Perhaps if you got the PC version you could do things like this:

It's pretty stale at this point and I don't really expect them to improve it a lot. I think they'll wait a while before giving us a half-decent update and that may very well be the last one for a long time (could be the last ever).

as series goes on , the GTA are getting " darker and edgier " than before ( by political controversy , gameplay , storyline , etc )

With GTA online , i consider currently the one that dwarves all of previous rendition and even single player mode ( though , lacks political controversy and storyline ) :

- at 2013 , the game suffers severe amount of bugs . making them almost unplayable ( i.e sign outs , stuck in skycam , long loading , intense mainstreaming issues , etc )

- in september 17 2013 , rockstar announces heist update

- rockstar has promised an apology in form of $500.000 cash ( which is given at nov 6 2013 ) but even after that point , the game stills suffer horrific glitches

- in dec 10 2013 , Rockstar claims in a post on the "Newswire" that the team has ambitions for a story DLC which will be released in 2014, along with heists which he says the team is "working hard"

- sometime around 2013 , modders were started to make an appearance and griefing many players ( some even given billions of GTA$ , which leading them getting banned despite their unwillingly received cheated currency )

- valentine day special onward , no longers offer free DLC items such as beach bum's vehicle for example , was given price tag . at this point also adds up ridiculously expensive items and first time reduce mission payouts

- High life update is first update to be delayed and first known heist delay . in addition , rockstar altered rooftop rumble mission , being more challenging that before ( having buffed enemies at ridiculous accuracy ) . this mission also has a bug that makes the fugitive won't spawn and thus failing the mission ( even the fix were delayed )

- at hipster update , adds ridiculous restriction to new vehicle dubsta 6x6 for Lv 100 ( while Rhino tank unlocked at lv 70 ) . like previous update , alter a income-source mission " coveted " to make it difficult to earn huge amount of money

- June 20, 2014 Rockstar issues a public apology for delays with delays of "Heists Mode."

- August 14 , 2014 rockstar again , delay heist

- at announcement of GTA V re-release . only returning player from old gen get additional content ( they cannot " transcend " further to PC version and must start scratch or play in old gen then transfer directly to PC )

- release of PS4 and XBOX1 of GTA V also comes with game-breaking bugs ( almost worst as in old gen shortly after online mode released )

- in order to rectify problem of inability to take out Jets , homing launcher were added in Festive Surprise and much to Competitives's dismay , Homing Launcher has no level restriction aside high price due being DLC weapon ( while RPG , locked until lv 100 )

- in January 13, 2015 PC release date delayed until March 24, 2015

- February 24, 2015 , again delayed until april 14 2015 ( which is might be a hidden joke of " april's fool )

- after the heist finally release , their joy wouldn't last long because of horrific glitches that will lead into your breakdown . like for example , prison break's finale ( where you can't lose the cops because 3 player sharing in same vehicle , to make it worse you can't get out either ) and difficulty of Cooperating in heist ( may because of incompetence and distrust )

- in ill-gotten gains part 1 , add up the most expensive vehicle ( $10.000.000 ) and yet , ironic one , Deluxe luxor ( the jet performance is exactly like ordinary luxor but exotic interior such as drinking champagne . unlike 98% of all vehicles , you cannot enter in passive so it makes this vehicle a griefer's magnet )

- reaching ill-gotten gains part 2 , it's uproar PS3 and Xbox360 because of hardware limitation , no more updates can be integrated at this point for old gen users . to make matters worse , they no longer bans player who are cheating

- Freemode Events update marks official discontinuation of original events such as armored trucks for example , which was replaced by these new minigames

- lowrider update sparks another uproar regarding of vehicle upgrade's price ( including the modification )

- similar to ill-gotten gains pt1 , adds up a new-ridiculous helicopter , supervolito with 2 variant . both has option to drink champagne like deluxe swift and even the passive mode restriction . as if that wasn't enough , there's yacht..... ( move one to another location ? i'll cost ya 25k , but we'll move it randomly for free if you're weren't " looked around " unless you want to go back to before , another 25k will do )

- in january 2016 , the 2 new upgradeable vehicles suffers a glitch that will took away your modification without refunding and then there's banshee 900R , which is slower as soon as upgraded

- in lowrider : custom classic , faction custom donk causes uproar and 3 more lowriders instead available one by one despite being already within the update itself

I played daily for 2.5 years. Once Adversary Modes became a staple and they started releasing one car at a time, I quit. You'll always have the die hards but the common, casual players are moving on...

As for the game itself...lots of missed opportunities. Interiors that were never opened, matchmaking that just doesn't work, a broken economy, connectivity issues, the cloud simulator, the removal of things people liked (some contact missions and original freemode events), asinine restrictions on clothing combos, none of the modes people want (cops and crooks), no lobby customizations (friendly fire), no additional contact missions in years (Lamar does not count), no new survivals, no casino, no stock market as promised, no money making properties, no animals, an expansive and untapped ocean..and in the end, a whole lot of business decisions designed to sell shark cards. Lowered payouts, removed missions, inflated car and clothing prices, time limits on relaunched heists, forcing players to sit through cutscenes to artificially increase play time of said heists, and now the recent onslaught of slow drip content used to bait players into playing as opposed to providing actual reasons to play.

Seems the well has run dry over at Rockstar. You all may disagree with me but at this point Id rather have paid DLC, maybe if that route was taken we'd have less of a focus on content designed to make you pay for cash and more a focus on content that makes you want to play.

I was a daily player of this game up to when yachts were added. I slowly stopped playing thanks to Fallout and encountering too many suicide and passive abusers. Even though the content has been lacking the past few months I can't say the future of Gta online will get any worse just because the content been lacking. We still got awhile before the year is up. However they will if they keep this up with the adversarys.

When it was first released you had ranks and all the stuff to unlock, you got awarded for playing missions. Now everyone is close to level 200 or more, there is just nothing there to do anymore. I still play GTA:O a couple times a week, mainly cause Im busy with life and babies. But whenever I do play I collect rare vehicles etc so that keeps me busy. Rarely step my foot into public lobbies

Sadly I haven't played in like 4 months and am still unable to but I can't imagine it's gotten much worse. The latest gta i can play atm is san andreas and it's the 360 version so I can't even do the awesome gang territory glitch :( my IV disc doesn't work anymore for some reason and I traded my 360 version of V in for RDR after I got xbox one and next gen V but I don't have that anymore and now the closest I can get to playing gta online is visiting these forums. Sorry for the off topic rant lol I just wish I could play V again, I had terrible connection problems which made online almost unplayable for a few months so I got rid of my xbox one and V altogether but now I wish I could just drive around in story mode.

Over the past 4-5 weeks I've only logged on to mod the cars at Benny's. GTA online was literally the only game I played in 2015 but I've moved on to other games now. I still think we'll see a few decent updates in 2016 though, I patiently wait.

I'm still hoping for some substantial new content in the future but I'm not as enthusiastic as I used to be. Steadily rising prices and constant reminders of the existence of Shark Cards seem to paint a clear picture of how the updates are going and the intentions behind them. Not that it surprises me - games are a business, after all.

That said, you don't have to buy them and there's still a lot of fun to be had in GTAO. I still think the greatest addition to this game was the Freemode activities in terms of replay value. Coupled with Daily Objectives and VIP missions, I see very little reason to bother with Deathmatches, LTS and all other isolated game modes that require waiting for players to join. If more is added to freeroam, I'm happy. That and a 'friendly' area / mode for car meets.

So, to answer the question (sort of): I'm happy with GTAO, but I don't expect anything significant to change. More than happy to be proved wrong though.

Still loving the game as ive always said ITS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT!

I personally just want new toys and options to mess around with in free roam.

Im not ruling out 1 more big update or small ones only so many adversary modes rockstar can make and lets face it just about everybody is getting bored of them.

As much as I'm having fun within GTA online, I'm getting so fed up with these hackers and their actions... Today another round of Piracy Prevention and we had another asshole in the bunch... It's getting out of hand...

While I'm on my Yacht, I saw a bunch of red dots approaching from the highway to Paleto Bay, so I hopped in my Hydra and clean swept two out of three cars heading my direction... One I hit also, but remained alive... I did another turnaround and suddely I'm parachuting down... Another player in the room, also got kicked out of his Hydra, so.... While on the ground I hit him with the minigun, but he remained alive... He killed me and I spawned on the Yacht...

Then he attempted to jetski over and I managed to kill him... So I was like 'he?'.... The he attempted again with a chopper.. Nailed him again...

Then they hit their menu again and I'm unarmed on my Yacht... checked my Yachtsetting (I knew I didn't need to, as I'm on Piracy Prevention, but ok) and I can't access Yacht defenses (as it should be)... So they have 1 minute left, parachute down with two (I suspect the other was the hacker and the one I suspected just a butt-buddy) and went over to my upperdeck... Then I went offline, hehe... Then I realized I should have reported their hacking lowlife asses...

I have no problem with losing or dieing, but I hate cheating basterds, who completely ruin those game-missions that are actually lots of fun (Piracy Prevention is one of them)...

When will Rockstar finally do something about these online lowlives... Is it so hard to just ban their asses... If you have money to buy these hackmenus, you certainly have money to spare to buy a new GTA5 copy and reregister... The new update sadly did absolutely nothing to control, or at least manage, this online pestilence...

It's fair to say the shine has certainly gone from it. I still dabble but no where near as much. Pretty much done everything hundreds of times and can't be bothered doing that same repetitive stuff for no reason over and over again anymore. Connection issues have gotten worse since the last update and joining friends is a total lottery (no, it's not my internet connection unless having a good connection is actually a bad thing now). Unimaginative and innovative content additions are a massive disappointment. Have to say, I'm not holding out much hope of GTA O improving in the future.

What you have to accept is that as soon as one set of mod's are patched, another will appear. Doesn't matter what game it is.

Also, no modders or hackers on current gen consoles.

Yeah, I'm on PC, t hat's obvious.. I know it's impossible to get rid of it, through the very nature of these hackmenus... But you can address the issue by banning the hackmenu users themselves.. If you get banned for life because of using a menu, it's shelving out money to buy GTA again and start all over again.. (win situation for rockstar too). Then you might think twice to buy another hackmenu for your new game... If they do and get banned again, they're even more stupid then I suspect they are... After a few of those, even the kiddies will learn.. Mum and dad won't keep out shelving money, because their offspring is a cheating waste of DNA...

Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see this big issue handled in such a way...

Well, for me,

expresses how GTA IV was so much fun and hassle free, as well as early GTA Online days, except the horrible launch obviously:

I think especially with Free Mode Events and VIP Missions GTA Online improved a great deal.

I hope R* expands on that concept a bit more.

And I also hope they drop Adversary Modes, Jobs and Missions.

Their complete focus should now be on GTA Online Free Mode in my honest opinion.

I've had quite some frustrating experience with GTA Online when I participate in Jobs or Playlists or Adversary Modes...

However almost everytime I participate in nomal Free Mode I have a very nice and dynamic experience, the only thing that ruins it are other players griefing and trolling and not participating in Free Mode Events.

In my honest opinion the only thing which is needed for GTA Online at the moment, is a higher player count for Free Mode and Dedicated Servers to make this player count possible and remove Hackers.

GTA Online is so much fun when people participate in Free Mode Events and VIP Missions and it would be even more fun if one day I have 10+ people playing Penned in, 10+ people hunting me in Moving Target, 10+ people playing Kill List or Kill List competetive with me.

They're wasting time, resources, and memory on stuff barely anyone wants; meanwhile, stuff people have been asking for since ... well, since forever, has been neglected. Cough, contact missions, cough.

I would not be surprised if it got worse too, since it already has. How can a game be made worse by adding content, you ask?

Look at the homing launcher, the sidey-sidey BS that sniping has been turned into, bullet proof helmets, and (while it's a really cool vehicle) allowing people to own Hydras really messed up the balance of the game, in my opinion.

Not only have they ignored the idea of implementing more exciting, good-pay missions, but they still haven't added back a couple of missions which were apparently bugged i.e. Chemical Extraction, Pick-up Sticks, American Exports etc. It's been almost, what, two years or so, and they still haven't fixed them or added them back. What gives?...

From the looks of it already, I don't think they will be adding any new contact missions any time soon if they still haven't even given back some of the missing existing ones. Their focus is apparently stuck on unnecessary adversary modes.

Absolute joke.

Only time will tell. You never know, it could get worse.

Look what happened to IV; it turned into a mod fest. The same thing may happen with GTA Online, especially with the state of Online as it is right now.
