Cops n Crooks
Does anybody remember this Rockstar game? In 2023, The American Trade Organization. also known as "The Corporation" has overthrown the United States government and established a police state, an underground resistance known as "Freedom" began a campaign of Terrorism and soon sparked national riot. The Corporation declares a state of emergency. The game takes place in the fictional Capital City. The player joins Freedom in an attempt to overthrow The Corporation; they must play as one of a selection of five characters who each have their own unique backgrounds. http://www.rockstargames.com/stateofemergency/ Edited April 30, 2016 by Cops n Crooks
DimitriFaustin
Still enjoy playing this game, I remember playing it at a friend's house back in 2004. Good times By the way, the American Trade Organization reminds me of the Zaibatsu in GTA 2. Cops n Crooks

KarimNTerr
Never played this one, but I did play its sequel: State of Emergency 2, which had nothing to do with Rockstar Games as it was developed by DC Studios and published by SouthPeak Interactive instead of being developed by VIS Entertainment and published by Rockstar Games. I didn't like that game, and the first one is considered by many to be one of Rockstar Games' biggest fails. Both games received unfavorable reviews, and I can definitely see why. Funny thing is, when Rockstar Games showed both GTAIII and State of Emergency at 2001's E3, people didn't pay too much attention to GTAIII, and praised State of Emergency for whatever reason. Now, if it wasn't for the controversy State of Emergency raised, nobody would know about it, while GTAIII is one of the most revolutionary games ever made in the history of gaming. Saliva
I bought it because of its ties with Rockstar, at the time I assumed they'd made the game, not just published it. I was expecting something of the same quality as GTA 3 and the ensuing disappointment stopped me playing it for over a decade. I picked up a copy recently and I loved it. If you don't go in expecting a AAA title, but treat it as an arcade game I think it holds up well. It's Crazy Taxi on foot with guns. Imo the Rockstar branding was probably its biggest selling point at the time and it's biggest downfall. edit - I never played the sequel, it apparently isn't as good. Maibatsu545
I bought it automatically, thinking it would be as brilliant as gta III. Sadly it was not. Before that realization settled in though, I certainly enjoyed it at first though. The riot mechanics and number of people on the screen were impressive for the time though. Now it just seems dated and shallow and arcadey. Never played the sequel. Maybe it's time to bring it bacl, though. State of Emergency 3 in RAGE? Could be cool. Doubt we'll ever see that though. Ultimately it was interesting, even if by now its just a footnote in R* history.
The Mysterious One
Being that this game was published by Rockstar, I thought that I would do a thread on this. I remember when this game came out, it was a rather maligned title. It came out not too long after GTA III and Max Payne, both of which were hits for Rockstar. I remember reading a lot of fan reviews for it on GameFAQs and a lot of people trashed the game. I played the game sometime after that when I rented it from Hollywood Video. I remember that I enjoyed it at the time, which caused me to later buy it from Game Crazy. However, I saw how repetitive it was after a while, and also some missions were rather tedious, like escorting those Freedom members, eliminating street gang members or even Corporation members. Of course, I didn't mind it but it was kind of annoying to play after a while, especially how it took a while to complete the areas. You started off in a mall, then in Chinatown, then in a more urban atmosphere and then finally in a metro area. I have mixed feelings about it. Then again, I have read that the sequel was much worse. Hell, I read that it took a while for it to be released until Southpeak Interactive put it out.
JohnDonovan
It was stupid BUT it was actually really fun for its time I used to love beating the sh*t out of people! which was the point of the game so for me it did its job, I have not played it in like 10 years but from what I can remember I have mostly fond memories.
