Malware/dangerous mods to stay away from. Free protection?

I haven't seen any topic like this here and I think everybody should be able to play worry free. I tried to get protection trying a bunch of different software and I took a performance hit from all of them. If anybody knows any free protection I can get that I won't take a bad performance hit from please give me a link. Also, If anybody knows of any dangerous mods to stay away from post them here. Thanks.
