Homemade Dynamite
Every band puts out an album that isn't up to par with their other material in eyes of the listener, but what's diamond in the rough? Please elaborate when telling us. I'll start: I love Linkin Park, but I absolutely despise their their third album Minutes to Midnight. They traded everything that made them unique to be a generic rock band. I know nu metal wasn't exactly the most popular thing in 2007, but they could've evolved their sound rather than completely abandoning every unique aspect like this. I also hated how there was so little rapping, and that Chester hogged the mic the entire time. I can appreciate the albums that came after for striving to be unique, but I can't squeeze a whole lot of fun out of MTM. However, there is one song off the album that enjoy listening to -- "Bleed It Out". The song features Mike rapping, and the back-and-forth dynamic between Chester and Mike that LP is famous for. It makes me wish there could've been more songs like this on MTM. Rather than pretentious political songs and AC ballads sung entirely by Chester. What about you guys? mr quick
Rhoda
I like the challenge that can come from objectively looking at what you consider to be a weak release in an artist's discography. While you may not like it, it can be tricky sometimes to accept another fan might even think that album is the best thing they've ever heard. One of my absolute favourite artists is Aphex Twin, and if I'm going to be honest with myself I'm having a hard time picking the album I like least of his. If I absolutely had to pick one though, it would be the Richard D. James Album. Don't get me wrong, I adore the man's work but there's something about that album that just doesn't measure up to other albums. It may shock other fans but I just don't care for it. I do own it, but I don't play it. However, this isn't about the album I don't like, it's about a track from it that I do like, right? In that case, I'd have to pick the first track from it, unusually titled 4. It's the only song that really stands out to me. Sorry fellow Aphex Twin fans. I didn't dig it. mr quick and SeroH
Femme Fatale
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&v=9X6hfDJMA9s I think Grim Scary Tales is Macabre's weakest album, but I think this song is the best one on it...

Michael
David Bowie made a music album called Never Let Me Down and if I have to believe the media and a lot of his fans, Never Let Me Down was pretty much the worst music album he ever made in his entire music career. I tried listening to Never Let Me Down a few times but I couldn't continue listening, the songs are just not that amazing like they usually are and the only song I like from that music album is also called Never Let Me Down. It's not that the album is complete trash, I mean trust me, David made some more fails in his career. He made a few music albums where only one or two songs were alright.. mr quick
My favorite artist is Steely Dan/Donald Fagen. In 1974 the band had not yet become Fagen & Becker + session musicians, although they were still writing all the music and were completely in charge. They recorded their next album, "Katy Lied", in late '74 and early '75, and it was released in march that year. Equipment issues plagued the recording sessions, very colorful and imaginative descriptions of which can be found on an obscure steely dan website link, written by Denny Dias. The biggest issue was an abstract one; the then-new dbx noise reduction system rendered the music "dull and lifeless, and no one could explain why", writes Dias. Becker and Fagen allegedly refuse to listen to the final album. To me, the entire album is largely forgettable despite being the album that opened my eyes to the complexities of the Dan. There is, however, one exeption: A re-visit of an earlier track from "Countdown to Ecstasy", YGTII is musically complex but also playful and catchy. Despite the group's increasing use of session musicians, Denny Dias steps in to play a rare guitar solo(2:18) over the intricate rhythms and chord changes in the solo part. His simple clean humbucking telecaster sound puts focus on the notes, and it's one of my favorite instrument solos of all time. This is true jazz rock. I have a lot of Steely Dan studio bootlegs, either rehearsal recordings or pre-release & pre-master tapes, and so on. I have an early version of this tune without the final vocals, it sounds like a rehearsal for Donald Fagen. Right before the guitar solo Fagen says "Alright, let me hear the guitar solo" and after the first part of the solo he exclaims "Whoa! Holy f*ck!" and grunts once more after a few seconds. Can't say I disagree e: a word Edited October 30, 2016 by Marwin
