Well, my problem here is that I gave away both my PS2 and all the games to a neighbor's kid a couple of years back, and both my PS3s are the big, bulky launch models. One completely died, and the other only plays DVDs/BDs and downloaded games, but can't read game discs. lol I can't really complain too much, though. Two PS3s that I literally bought as launch pre-orders waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2006 and holy sh*t did they get a lot of use in the past 14 years. Since these are PS2 games. So I may be SOL here.

MGS3 is available digitally along with MGS2 as part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. If your PS3 can only play digital stuff then that's the best option.

LMAO I see what you mean. I want to be clear about something, though. I hate to whip a dead horse here, but the reason that story-heavy videogames fail to entertain me when they come at the expense of gameplay, is NOT because I don't like amazing movies or incredibly stories. Let me make an absurd comment to illustrate my point again: If Coppola, Scorcese, Spielberg, or even some really great heavy hitters not quite as good as guys like that, were to decide to make a transition into taking complete charge of the "movie" part of a videogame, and the gameplay was less than amazing, as I always felt IV was, I would feel a whole lot different about story versus gameplay. I am going to be very careful here not to stir the IV vs V pot lol but I want to make this clear: See, my problem with GTA IV isn't that I am too ADHD to sit still for a big, amazing story that comes at the expense of gameplay and fun as some posture in this forum. Its because I don't consider GTA IV to be a great story with great writing. And before this turns into a IV/V f*ck-fest again, I don't consider V to be a great story with great writing either! I will admit I like V's story, acting, dialog, plot, and production better, but that's purely a matter of taste.  My only point here isn't that GTA IV sucks and V is the best of the best of the best. its that without fun gameplay, neither game has a story that would keep me playing just to engross myself into the narrative and care enough about what happens to the characters to push the story forward. Not when I can watch a very good movie in 90 minutes, but have to endure a game I don't like for a few dozen hours to get through a story that's admittedly fine, maybe even very good, for a videogame. We can quibble and bicker all day over which game has the better story, IV or V, but in the end, neither of those stories is enough to make want to endure gameplay that's boring to me. I think the important thing here is that if a game's story were truly as good and amazing as so many people in this forum gushing over IV say its story is, then I could endure less than ideal gameplay. Because, contrary to popular opinion in this forum, I love a great story, whether its in a book, movie, TV show, or game. I have just yet to see a game that really pulls that off. But say in my absurd example, instead of Dan Houser writing and producing and directing GTA IV's story, they had...Tarantino and his crew doing the whole story/acting/production part of the game. And the story really was on the level of Goodfellas or Pulp Fiction or whatever. Even if I still wasn't crazy about the gameplay, or disliked it as I did the physics and gameplay of IV, I bet I would still love the game. I know this is a ridiculous ask, at least in 2020, but who knows in the future, right?

I love all the SR games, but I also understand why some fans have a problem with SRTT and SRIV, even though I adore both games. The only problem I see with SR and SR2, two games I love dearly and can play and enjoy to this very day, is that even though they re clearly not GTA, because of the way the games play, all the critics sort of pigeon-holed them into GTA knockoffs. SRTT and SRIV were the first two games in the series that actually got more universal gamer attention, because they were able to do something the first games could not, which is to finally get the f*ck out of GTA's shadow. I know some SR fans want the series to go back to the glory days of SR2, but is that really what's best for the franchise? Because my assertion is that grounding the game like they did with SR and SR2 would force the franchise right back into being the unwanted stepchild of GTA once again.

Honestly if SR had to be silly, I would appreciate SRTT style silliness but with all the stuff of the first two gameplay/free roam wise even more improved.

I've always wanted a prequel Saints Row game set in the 1970's. The 70's were a crazy time people were on drugs and can be both serious and silly. Have it take place when Julius left the Vice Kings to form the Saints and to solve any continuity issues the created character get abducted by aliens at the end.

I agree with you. But bear two mitigating factors in mind: First, Volition has a lot of very talented devs but they are NOT Rockstar, and they don't have hundreds of millions of dollars to funnel into a SR game the way that Rockstar and Take2 have to pour into GTA. Also, all 5 SR games had to work on the PS3/360, with the first SR being a 360 exclusive. I love SR4 and GooH, and enjoy what the series evolved to. But I understand a lot of SR fans were not interested in a superhero sadndbox game, as much as many fans loved it.

Each of the games had their own advantages and disadvantages. SR2, for instance, had the BEST customization I have ever seen in a videogame, including GTAV and GTAO. SRTT really stripped down the customization and the various clothing physics, as did SRIV. SRIV and GooH had amazing, unbridled freedom and insane OTT fun, while SRTT seemed to be a nice transition between the street-gangsta paradigm of SR/SR2 and SRIV. I'm not sure if Volition is going to go back to the motifs and gaming philosophies of SR and SR2, which are now both 15 and 12 years old, respectively. My guess is there will be some kind of a compromise between the wild, wacky OTT styles of SRIV/GooH and SR/SR2, with perhaps SRTT being seen as a sort of sensible middleground. BUT I want to see customization like what we had in SR2. If they can't do it on the PS5/Series-X, two gens of consoles past the first 5 game platforms, then I don't know what to say!

This could work for SRV, I think, and I support the idea. Kind of like a Parallel Lines only actually a good game lol. But at some point, I think Voliton needs to make a present day, too. I really want them to debunk the current timeline where Earth is destroyed. My opinion is they really need to pull some sleight of hand and restore the Earth for future games set in present times.

Wait how old are the Vice Kings?

Also while on the matter of games being serious, you would be SURPRISED at how serious and focused Saints Row 2 takes itself if you only watch the cutseens (I did it by looking up all cutseens of SR2 on youtube). definitely takes itself more serious than SR1 and I'll even say its on par with TLAD. It's just that the gameplay, characters animations, and just overall wackiness that comes into freeroaming SR2 that it clouds your perception of the story (at least for me)

That I do remember but then that makes me wonder how old the Westside Rollerz were and why it took so long for the gang issues to be solved.

I think the tone has a lot to do with where the setting is. For example, Vice City and San Andreas are definitely less serious since Miami, LA, SF and Las Vegas have lighter vibe. Liberty City feels more serious because NYC is like that. How GTA 6 feels will depend on its setting.

And if GTA 6 takes place in VC like so many people desire, it will probably have a lighter tone...but it’s hard to say though.

I really hope if GTA VI is VC it'll go for a more darker approach for night like Liberty City like some back alley crimes and loansharking/cocaine issues but the day time would be like LS with the deep crime being overshadow and people just enjoying their day.

I do hear what you are saying but I like the tone in GTA5. I agree it can be a bit over the top but underlying it all are all real issues real people face in the real world.

Relationships ending, divorce, family drama, sibling rivalry, violence, good friends, bad friends, messing with the wrong people, drugs, torture, the lure of money, materialism, true value of friendships, and on and on.

R* has addressed all this but has put a comedy layer on top. I actually hope GTA6 does similar but also wouldnt mind if they toned it down a bit and as someone mentioned before me -  a kind of mix between seriousness and fun would be great.

Yes, and the characters too, more solid, a capo whose way of humiliating someone is to call him a hipster, the serious gangster who kidnaps people to let them escape, and the psychopath who is not capable of shooting someone who has betrayed him, that not to mention the secondary ones, they are a joke

In GTAV's silly moments and missions I sat through them with a straight face.

In RDR2's silly moments and missions, such as getting drunk with Lenny, I laughed.

GTA was always meant to be a bit slapstick, bombastic etc...but tbh GTAV was shallow and the people they were mocking were supposed to be people the game wanted us to play as or care about.

Whether it's silly or serious, they just need to create a protagonist who we root for. And seriously change up their mission design.

Depends on the map of the game. San Fierro will suit a srerious and dark story while Las Venturas will be perfect for lite, dramatic, funny story. Vice City is fit for an epic story.
