Shy Star
On March of 2015, Nintendo revealed that they have been working on a new console, codenamed NX. As time went on, rumors from various sources claimed that Nintendo's new machine would be more powerful than both the XBox One, and PlayStation 4. While this information has not been confirmed, this does beg an interesting question. If this information turned out to be true, should Rockstar Games launch the next Grand Theft Auto on the NX? Nintendo's relationship with Rockstar has been unsteady to say the very least. The last Grand Theft Auto to appear on Nintendo hardware was Chinatown Wars for Nintendo DS. Sources have stated that Rockstar considered porting Grand Theft Auto V to the Wii U, but scrapped that idea. As far as we can tell from this relationship, a new Grand Theft Auto on a Nintendo Console seems very unlikely. However, there's still some hope. Lately, Nintendo has been opening its doors to third parties once more, including Rockstar. If Nintendo's console proves to be powerful, and have a large fan base of consumers, a Grand Theft Auto on a Nintendo console doesn't seem so bleak now, does it? This begs the question, as a Grand Theft Auto fan, would you like to see the next Grand Theft Auto launch on Nintendo's next console? Everyone's open to discuss. Malibujohnny
nintendo appeals to a different crowd . A youth that is less corrupt. And the company seems to do fine without too many violent gamer.
PhillBellic
Personally, I don't really see it happening. Nintendo go after a different market that Sony and Microsoft don't really go after.
Shy Star
Personally, I don't really see it happening. Nintendo go after a different market that Sony and Microsoft don't really go after. I can definitely see where you are coming from. As a huge Nintendo fan, even I can agree with this. However, seeing that Watch Dogs, and other M rated titles have released on the Wii U, it gave me a chance of hope. That, and the new CEO of Nintendo has been making a few smart decisions for the company for the past few months, so there's that to.
Maxxeine
While it would definitely boost sales of Nintendo's new console, it's unlikely given Nintendo's history. However, as you said, it could pan out due to Watch_Dogs releasing on the Wii-U.
Stoneman420
If the system is capable then yeah. Nintendo consoles have been technologically inferior since Gamecube though. Not sure if they ever plan to seriously compete with the big two anymore. slimeball supreme

If the tech is good it'll work. Assuming the NX is as powerful as the PS4, as it is rumored to be, the only thing that can define whether or not the next GTA can make it to Nintendo's next console, would be the install base. If this console has moderately huge sell numbers, then maybe I can see the next GTA on the NX. Keep in mind that the reason Grand Theft Auto V never made it to the Wii U was due to the install base, even though the Wii U is slightly more capable than the Xbox 360, and PS3. Through my point of view, the size of an install base can determine whether a third party would want to release a game on that console, or simply avoid it. Shadowfennekin
I doubt it will. GTA is the big mature game, more than Nintendo can handle. Especially as the f-bomb is dropped every few minutes along with black gangsters saying the n-word. Big no no for Nintendo.
Crystal3lf
If the system is capable then yeah. Nintendo consoles have been technologically inferior since Gamecube though. Not sure if they ever plan to seriously compete with the big two anymore. Even if the Wii U could handle it, there is no target audience for an R18 game where the majority of the Wii's userbase are younger children. Xbone and PS4 have a lot of children too, but it's kind of expected that you'll find shooting/killing/GTA on them. There is no financial benefit for Rockstar to spend time and money on creating a new version of GTA to also have to keep updating and supporting over it's life. Neon-Noir 198X
Depends on whether or not Nintendo decides to reach out to third parties with their next console. Hopefully they will, if they know what's good for them.
BobFromReboot
Nintendo would never allow a mature title on their consoles! It is only for babies according to all the cool guys like shadowoperative. Oh wait... Lakitu
Shy Star
Due to a certain new information surfacing regarding the future of the next Grand Theft Auto releasing on Nintendo's next system Codename NX, I decided to give this thread a bump. On July 25th of 2016, the site Gamesidustry.biz released an interview with Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. In this interview, Zelnick explained how he felt about Nintendo. To quote Zelnick, "We never want to count Nintendo out, [...] So we feel pretty enthusiastic actually. They're really thoughtful, they come to market with something they really think is going to work, more often than not it really works, it blows up and then eventually they let it decline and they move on to the next thing, [...] They don't mind having time in between." Despite these positive comments towards Nintendo, it is unlikely to that we will see a title from Take Two on Nintendo's next console anytime soon. To quote gaming news site IGN, "Take-Two may not rush to be one of the first to have games on the console, just as the company is not rushing to be one of the first with virtual reality offerings, but that the company is excited by what Nintendo is creating, especially given Nintendo's prior track record." This rises up hope that we might see the next Grand Theft Auto title release on a Nintendo system for the first time since Chinatown Wars released on the Nintendo DS. However, this would depend as to how successful the launch of Nintendo's next console would be. Seeing that the Nintendo NX has a planned launch schedule in March of 2017, and fan speculation pointing out that the next Grand Theft Auto might release somewhere between 2018-2022, the possibility for the next GTA releasing on the Nintendo NX is there. But it all depends on how the launch of this system goes. Hopefully, we can one day see Grand Theft Auto on a Nintendo console. DERGaming
Wow that would be crazy I would like to see GTA 6 on a Nintendo system although I doubt it, it would still be cool especially since Chinatown Wars and Watch Dogs came out on nintendo that would be crazy to see it on there though my mind would blow so yeah it is up for debate so who knows it is anyone's guess
RogerWho
Sure why not, I mean there was a GTA on a f*cking GB Advance. The only reason why this may not be happening is if R* was incapable of doing the port. Which is a distinct possibility. BTW just imagine a Vice City sequel on the next Nintendo console. So much heavy fanboism on both of these, it would create a black hole and the Earth would collapse on itself. Come to think of it... Nintendo doesn't have paid online like xboxes and ps4, does it? If so and they keep it that way, that might be the best way to play. Edited July 30, 2016 by RogerWho
Murray Bunyan
I don't think that's a possibility. Consider this: 1. Nintendo is notorious for poor 3rd party relations. 2. Their next hardware is rumoured to be considerably weaker than its competitors'. 3. If history is anything to go by, it won't sell well. I would love to see the next Rockstar game on NX. But sadly, I don't see it happening.
Osho
If Nintendo's console turns out equally as good or better than the NG consoles then ..why not? I am a PC gamer but having the options to play on whatever hardware that sounds great for every type of console/hardware fan doesn't sound a bad thing. It'll actually boost sales for Rockstar / T2. Before every thing one must know the specs, and about the technical feasibility for the developers to be interested in how much better does the console able to really make GTA run on, besides financially support their sales based on the strength of ( Nintendo ) console players. Nothing can be said.. until then
DERGaming
We wait and see what happens what everyone has said here have been given some excellent points and I would say that the GTA community is about 50 50 about it happening
