The Dedito Gae

carner city is not detroit. And that is manhunt, not gta.

It probably is in the HD era.

If I were in charge of R I would do the 70s LC theme but it wouldn't be GTA VI. VI would be set in modern Vice City but I do want a GTA set in that era. It can be seen as an extension of the IV era.

Yeah i agree about the extension of iv. 70s lc would be cool, youll have all the mafioso familys that niko deal with but just younger and more powerful. Then you have packies father who was the head of the irish mob and packie and his friends said they were even more powerful back in the day. Beef between the lost and thw aod. Man id love it even if they didnt focus on either of those

I think Rockstar's plans to use V as a foundation to tack on new cities/islands via the airport to have all of the GTA's linked going forward says that they have no choice but to make a modern day title. It would make no sense for us to go to the LS airport, hop on a plane and land in the 1970's.

Modern times have gotten really stale. I feel they need to go to the 70s.

Yeah,70s LC would be interesting to see.We could see Italian mafia leading the criminal world, younger Jon Gravelli becoming the don of his mafia family,Irish mafia also being more powerful,The Lost MC being a young gang with all the founding members still alive, the AOD just moving to LC from the West Coast, the war between them starting, and maybe even the early Russian mafia in Hove Beach (I've read that the first Soviet immigrants moved to Brighton Beach in the 40s and there was a presence of Russian mafia there in the 70s) and the African-American mafia (based on Frank Lucas' mob or Nicky Barnes' mob).

But it also would be interesting to see the portrayal of a barnes/lucas character. The 70s would be perfect for the 'rise to the top by your own means' story. Gta should go back to that

Going back in time could freshen things up. GTA V parodied pop culture, social media, current affairs etc well enough and there isn't a lot they could add. I feel that choosing a different decade would open new avenues and bring its own charm to the game, just like those period GTAs did. It also means the developers don't have to keep to a mostly contemporary soundtrack.

The higher vote for a Modern Time GTA game is worrying. Haven't you people had enough of modern day parodies portrayed in IV and V? the main thing that the game needs now is a different era to refresh itself.

Well in my case no, not yet. I want a modern-day VC and surrounding areas setting, it really needs good HD treatment, and it's long overdue.

Once that's done, and hopefully brilliantly, then I don't care what era comes after.

I agree but they won't go back to the past. It would just be too different and the kiddies would get pissed. All the modern stuff like cellphone, internet etc. is just part of GTA now.

They also already did the 80's and 90's, 70's SF or LV would be cool but unlikely. Would be too similiar to Mafia 3 etc.

Modern VC could also be great as long as they tone down the satire and deliver on the story and characters

I want to go back to the 80's again purely because it seems like the rockstar writers would have more to say on that era than just "Smart phones, millenials, Los Angeles Hypocrisy, valley girls, bleh! I like movies. Also here's a verbatim mitt romney quote. SATIRE!". I mean, seriously, we went to the 80's for like one game. I think there's more material to be covered.

In any case, I wouldn't mind another Modern Time GTA treatment as long as they deliver a mature story with exciting themes and topics to tackle, sensible and well-directed humor that's not anything like what we got in V.

As much as this unrelated may look;

If Donald Trump wins the Presidental race,GTA VI will probably be set in the present with less political correctness and maturity and with more sexism, racism and other things which will mark his administration.

^If this doesn't work then I hope that the next GTA VI will be set in the 40's having a Gordon Moorehead stylish atmosphere or in a mid-70's Nixon period with a slight Hippie style.

70s where the Truth is the protagonist

That's a good idea for a 3D San Andreas prequel

I'd like to see a game set in the early 00's in between 2000-2004 III touched a bit on it but I'd like to see R* revisit the period again

Maybe have a game based around a car thief or something

I think a game set in the near future could be cool, depending on how they do it.

Worst case scenario would be them turning GTA into some generic sic-fi sh*t, but R* have always struck me as a creative bunch so it would be interesting to see how they'd do a near future setting.

In my mind I'm thinking a setting where the world is making a transition from modern times to "the future". Kinda like how in RDR it was set when the old west era was dying and cars were coming out.

The more I think of it a futuristic game would be awesome but I don't think R* would ever do a game in the future and it probably wouldn't feel very GTA like but that's just me.

Imagine hearing something like this playing on the radio

Next gta should be from the past. Look at the reviews battlefield 1 is getting. I think the past is something new to the new generation of gamers who are mostly kids, thats why they thought the bf 1 trailer was so good. Its new and refreshing. And they ran the hipster theme into the ground

Imagine a larger Liberty City in about 1990. Just like NYC - a total dump.

I think it's gonna be modern day and I don't really have an issue with that. That said, I'd love to see a return to GTA parodying other eras, the 70s seems like the obvious choice.

I'd love to see the original San Andreas cities in a 70s setting; porn, disco, cocaine and the birth of gangs in LA; Triads, Hippies, Black Panthers, riots and bikers in the Bay Area; The Golden Age of the Mafia in Las Vegas. All seems perfect for a GTA game.

Older setting here's why.

Modern culture isn't foreign or special to me. I live it every day. Whilst I enjoy modernity, I don't crave the need to emulate it as much in a video game, a form of escapism for my life.

If you're poor man living in Europe and you want to go on holidays in the U.S, play GTA. If you ever fantasized about time-travel, play Vice City or San Andreas. :p I know that's a silly observation but there's some truth in for me.

If Rockstar says it's city is a character in itself, then a city set in another era adds more weight to that character.

Take Red Dead for example. I loved exploring that world and time. It's gone by never to be recaptured. There's a charm in viewing how life was before. It adds more tone to game and a certain atmosphere that unable to be captured if it's set in modern times because we all live in modern times. And When GTA used to jump between decades we got more variety of cars. More variety of the same car but it was fun driving an '86 Sentinel in Vice City then a '92 version in San Andreas.

San Andreas and Vice City were super unique experiences Vs any other game that would just be set in modern times. It's what distinguished the series from other games. Now, if you look a Just Cause 3, Watch Dogs, GTA V, they're all set in modern times. None of them is distinguished by the era it's set in.

It's partially why I'm so excited for Mafia III. It's set in 1968 in New Orleans. It will be fresh because I've never free-roamed around New Orleans in a game that's tries to capture a certain realism and tension of the time and I've never lived in 1968. It's all going to be fresh.

Vice City and San Andreas were fresh because I was kid when Rodney King got beaten up and the L.A. Riots happened. Now I could sort of play a game set in those times based on films I seen growing up. I was a baby when during the VC timeline and now I could play a game that imitated films like Scarface.

I play GTA V and it's so familiar. I've feel I know L.A. now. Familiarity breeds contempt :p I've all ready played two GTA's in L.A. and then I played L.A, Noire which was interesting and then Midnight Club: L.A. I know basic navigation around that city at this stage, all major landmarks, bridges, buildings and certain neighborhoods. I didn't when SA came out so it was fresh to me then. Same with Vice City.

I think setting a GTA in the past is a rewarding feature in itself. It's not like I'm always thinking "wow, this is what city 'X'" is like, I'm thinking "wow, this is what sh*t was like in the 80's or 90's."

I am fairly unpopular with my "future" vote, but I think R* would nail the feeling of future this time. It probably would be something Blade Runner-esque in a dystopian future, maybe a sequel to Chinatown Wars.

Just imagine (it cost me an hour of photoshop :<)
