Been itching for a GTA set in the 70s in Venturas for a while now.

But yeah, I would take a GTA set in the past over a modern setting any day. That's my preference.

Damn, just like the movie "Casino". One of my favourite films of all time. I would like GTA VI to be set in Vice City (personally), but a GTA set in multiple cities would be great. The previous 2 GTA games (or 3, since Chinatown wars counts too, I'm not counting the IV DLCs here, but some would) were set in the modern day, so I'm personally getting a bit bored of the modern day setting.

Modern times will get even more depressing by the time the next GTA gets released.

People will feel nostalgic for the past - perhaps 90s Liberty City with the Twin Towers standing?

Up to date. I don't want to drive old vehicles and use old guns.

We have Mafia for that

It should be set in the year of its release -- likely 2022, for example.

Yeah, it'll most likely be a numbered title so it'll be set in the year of its release (202?), fortunately.

If its gonna be just set in Vice City then i think they should do the 80s again. It won't really feel right for Vice City not to be in the 80s at this point and a modern day setting for Vice City wouldn't be that interesting really IMO.

If it would get released this year it would suck lol, just imagine the story:

Mission 1-go to the store to get food, toilet paper and a medical mask without getting coughed on by NPCs

Mission 2-after a couple of weeks in quarantine you started to run out of food,go out to get more but if the cops see you outside your home you get an instant 2 star wanted level

Mission 3-you're running out of food again,go get more while avoiding cops and now also murder hornets

Mission 4-you can finally leave home legally, but outside you find that your whole town is rioting, get to the store to get food and back home without getting killed by either the rioters or the cops

Mission 5-you reach your home and find that it's been broken into and a bunch of your stuff got stolen, join the looting and get yourself new stuff to replace everything that got stolen

etc.

Meanwhile TV and radio would be mostly news reports talking about WW3 almost breaking out, Australia burning, coronavirus, etc.

I just don't see how they could do a previous era for an Online setting... too much would be limited. It'd be a huge step back from what we've seen in GTA Online. Who knows, I could be wrong.

Look at the numbers and add them all up

The past has 619 votes. Modern day has 508 if you include the future votes then it's 542.

619>542

Modern day is actually behind.

This is a matter of creating a proper interface, rather than gameplay. What in Online wouldn't work in the 1980s in terms of gameplay? Smartphone could be replaced by pagers e.g., nobody would mind some creative freedom.

I disagree. For example, most people who want a 90s-00s setting, wouldn't like a 50s-80s setting because it's too far into the past so they'd rather modern day. I'd say half the fanbase want modern day and the other half want a past setting. The time period discussion is very divisive.

I prefer futuristic since that is the only feature I would want if I were to play GTA 6. After a tiring play it is always best to rest to a very comfy mattress, that is why I will never fail to choose the top in the list of mattress https://bestmattressesreviews.org/.

I know, and that's what's shocking and depressing. We've raised a generation of people who can't appreciate the beauty of the worlds of the past.

A past setted story could be very interesting, just they have to change the system of mobile phones and some other modern stuff. However I'd like very much play in the 80s like in vice city.

Here's the thing a lot of the modern stuff we have today was around back then aside from the obvious stuff like certain technology. But clothes were around a lot of the fashion styles we have today are inspired in part from the past, so were guns nobody and I mean nobody says omg I have to go out and get the latest guns! Hey man you getting the new gun that's coming out? Did you preorder that new gun man? Lets go out to the gun store!

I'm not much of a Sneakerhead but the Air Jordan 1 came out in 1985. In fact the first four Jordans came out between 1985-1989 and they are still widely used and popular today. Not to mention all the ones that came out in the 90s.

I'm still up for late 90s-early 00s. You get a perfect combination of music from good eras and retro-modern vehicles. It's the perfect time period for a GTA game. Also payphones are still relevant.

I can understand why people want no game too late in the past, I was born in the 80s, but because of movies I can relate also to the 70s and its cars. But I like no 50 or 60s cars. Somebody born in the 2000s might relate in the same way to the 1990s but no earlier periods. I would be happy with any period from the late 70s to 1999.

I'm okay with 80 - present era. 70's kinda feels like an era for a mafia game. 80's and 90's are my favorite year settings for a GTA game.

Nah man the 70's are a crazy time period perfect for GTA. You got disco, the Rico act, Star Wars, Nixon and Watergate, the end of the Vietnam War, and drugs lots and lots of drugs not cocaine though cocaine was around during the 70's it just wasn't as popular like it became in the 80's.

All those things combined make for an interesting era and perfect for a GTA.

Its a tie for me really...

I enjoyed the setting of vice city but setting everything in modern time gives them a lot of room to expand upon, adding new cars and whatnot. A game set in the 90s wouldn't be so terrible as ypu could fit a healthy amount of 80s and semi modernity in the same setting, id like to see the jokes they could pull off with y2k, desert storm, bill clinton, fall of the ussr etc.

But let's be honest, setting it anything before the 2000s will hurt GTA onlines content availability which means a lot to cockstar

I've always thought of GTA to be a somewhat modern-ish era title tbh. Looking at Take Two's catalogue, I've always thought of the Mafia series to be "GTA but 20th century"..so if GTA were to adopt a classic setting, it might be stepping on the audience of the Mafia series

Yeah, the GTA series should stick to modern times imo, leave the past to the Mafia series.

Here's the problem with that. Mafia is limited to well the Mafia. You can't set a story about New York street gangs in the 70's it would have to be focused around the Mafia instead. There are also people who find the Mafia boring.

Mafia wouldn't be able to tell stories like this
