is there really?

 

once you have played this game for houndreds of hours, you realize that killing eachother is the main purpose of the game, R* want us killing eachother, hence why there are no friendly lobby option.

:^: I thought they did, too. But 2.5 years later, it seems like they have no damn idea how to go about it. They got "classic online modes" down pretty well, however :p

I think the community is more to blame then the developers. Everything in that video is in the game. We have the option to have fun, co-operative "adventures" in free-mode that do not involve killing other players. But as soon as you try engaging in this in a public lobby, some players (read "majority") choose to act like a giant douche sandwich.

 

Perfect example, me and some friends had a couple semi's with flat bed trailers and we were having roaming fist fights on top of them. We actually managed to pick up several randoms along the way who were joining in on the action. It all ended when one sore loser decided to suicide with a grenade killing everybody. Good for him on the multi-kill, but that just ruined the fun of a half-dozen others.

 

And I know, I know, go to a private lobby. But in a private lobby there is no way to meet new people and have these awesome random encounters that could potentially happen if everybody wasn't so trigger happy.

:^: Precisely. I was going to elaborate along the lines you stated above, but I decided to keep it brief.

 

The trailer voice-over doesn't specifically state that "You can sniper-camp, jet-grief, and tirelessly farm your K/D at the expense of the enjoyment of every player that joins the session. Cooperative play by choice? Mwahahahaha! F*ck that. Just kill everything that moves. It's limitless. You can do anything you want. Everything, except for having fun without getting harassed constantly. Meet new people, and grief them mercilessly."

 

So Rockstar has had 2.5 years to fix it, and all they have is the same old passive mode band-aid.

But how can you fix it? It's not a broken game-play mechanic, or a glitch/bug. It's a communities behavior. And I don't think any amount of coding can fix how toxic this community is/can be.

The worst part is that you could play almost the exact game in a non-PvP lobby, where the "loser" of the match would be the one to fall off the truck. I don't know why a non-PvP lobby option isn't part of GTA Online yet.

you blame the community, i blame R*...

 

you cant give heavy weapons, tank, jets and attack helicopters to people and expect them not to kill eachother, that just not gonna happen.

 

freeroam could have been like on the trailer have R* implemented the successful friendly lobby system from IV, which allowed people to fool around with randoms.

I've used passive mode since ever and I'm definite auto-passive doesn't exist. The game does not automatically take you to passive mode. It automatically takes you OUT of passive mode, not INTO passive.

It's not "passive mode" per se, but if you're dominating someone and they aren't touching you, they become "ghosted". They aren't in passive, but you can't interact with them for two or three minutes. Everyone else can though, and they can interact with everyone else. Just not you. I think it was put in the game solely as a defense against griefers. It can be turned off, though.

 

I was stomping someone the other day, and got a notification that they were ghosted to me for X amount of time.

Theres plenty of non violent stuff to do in GTA. Some people just lack imagination and are just fixated on the killing aspect.

Exactly.

People think this way in COD too. Instead of doing team death match, they'd rather be trying to get out the map and they get mad when you kill them. Seriously WTF? If you want to drive around, go into an invite only session. I ain't friendly and if your dot ain't wearing my crew color or friend tag, you gettin' blasted! I used to be noble, but too many people started abusing passive mode with me being the victim. Not anymore!!!

Yep that's right. I convinced a glass of water to not be wet anymore!

 

 

 

Water is always wet... A glass can hold water.

 

 

You can do alot with a glass of water. You can drink it. Water plants.. Wash your hands.. .Put out a small fire.. Or grab the glass of water and smash it across someones face.

 

 

Now.. if the only thing a person sees when they see a glass of water is an object they can use to smash people in the face with.. Clearly its not the glass of waters fault.

There's no such thing that I'm aware of on CG, a player has to opt in by selecting passive mode on spawn or by going to interaction menu.

What if Badsport penalties where changed to include killing players when not part of a free roam event or VIP work?

 

After let's say the 10th player kill the user gets tossed into Badsport for like 24hrs.

 

This would encourage a more peaceful lobby and make free roam events more engaging war zones for their duration.

They would need to get rid of the "Kill 5/10/20 players" daily objective first.

This (BS for killing) should be an optional lobby type, for people who want to peacefully interact with randoms, have fun showing cars, and stunting, etc.

 

I would actually like this more than friendly fire lobby, since it does not artificially constrain the natural mechanics of the game.
