[Poll] GTA VI Release Date Predictions

Always had a feeling back when they "announced" in Feb 2022 that earliest release date would be late 2024 or 2025 when the current gen consoles are at their peak sale wise/utilisation. September 2025 would be an ideal release date with Feb-May being wishful thinking.

 

First page predictions are wild but it's great to see people's opinions, fun read. The last thing on my mind back then in 2016 was VI cause there's no way they were going to follow through with another GTA instalment soon after. It was a mystery of whether next R* game would be Bully or Red Dead for me

I doubt that Rockstar would release the launch trailer on the same day that the game releases, they usually put the trailer out a few days before

Already kind of said this before - like everything in game development it's complicated I guess, and I understand those who may think 2026 - with R*'s history, it could slip, but I do have some hope it might not. If Henderson actually hypothetically heard anything, it's quite normal for people who are close to devs to hear that they (and this depends on the department) don't feel ready for a given date, but the project has to be finished SOME DAY, it can never be a *perfect* game and if you ask any AAA game dev, they'll tell you that their release schedules for these massive games always seem ridiculous.

It's not that the game would be rushed or bad or missing content, it's that you cannot keep adding to it and making changes, or deciding to make major changes when it's supposed to be feature-locked (not necessarily the case with VI, we're still in mid-2024), otherwise it would never be done. As long as this doesn't mean crunch of course. If something is actually behind schedule I'd rather see a company delay a game than making devs go through hell and back all over again.

 

It is interesting that they never updated anything on the R* website to Fall 2025, which makes me think there's a bit of a disconnect there between T2's target date and Rockstar's, or they simply want to announce a date or a period on their own terms.

 

tl;dr: I still think 2025, especially because this behemoth has been in development for ages and I think at this point they'll just want to get it done; but a delay would hardly be surprising of course, R* has delayed all of their games for varied reasons, including last-minute changes when they shouldn't have happened, but not to the detriment of the games. 

 

 It's certainly not because Henderson is making a random poll that it's suddenly CONFIRMED DELAYED, especially after his admitted hijnks with the R* community. Means nothing to me.

I trust them with their wordings. I'm nor optimistic or pesimistic. I let the time decide. Everyone should do the same and be proud that they will get a new GTA in their life time after all this time, they aren't dying if they wait 3 more months.

If Rockstar ever announces a delay for VI, it will happen next year, closer to its current release window, and they'll probably announce the exact release date to set it in stone once and for all.

 

If it isn't September-November 2025, it will be March 2026, only 4 months later and very early in the year, mark my words.

Makes you wonder how Rockstar would have felt about that seeing as it didn’t officially come from them. Maybe it was Take Two putting some sort of pressure on them to ensure the game comes out on time, who knows but defo a bit strange when you think about it - don’t think TT have given a release period before Rockstar before.

It makes sense as Take Two had previously acknowledged the game to release in fiscal 2025 (which ends in March 2025) before the game was internally delayed beyond that date. This was all tied up to expected revenue, without ever actually announcing the game. They needed to let their investors know about shifting release windows because now that expected revenue had slipped into fiscal 2026 (April 25–March 2026). Most other companies are able to hide their big releases and surprise fans later on, but GTA being the behemoth that it is makes that impossible. All this stuff is more-or-less public due to this. 

 

As for Rockstar not acknowledging any of this, I agree it's strange. In the past they would announce their game around the time those projections would appear, and then delay accordingly (this is how you get a RDR2 situation where the game gets pushed by 6 months twice). It seems that this time they've already acknowledged they're unlikely to get the game out on the initial schedule and pushed it to 2025 so they don't need to announce the delays.

 

I feel confident Rockstar won't announce the release window until they're confident it's accurate.

well, whether they were sure or not about hitting 2025, they still announced it too early once again. Who exactly said it that they'd announce games closer to release? Did Rockstar say that too, or do I misremember?

We are approximately 13-14 months away from the starting of fall 2025

it is still very very early to even think game will slip into 2026

 

Not to forget all the previous R* titles came out within 2 years from their announcement trailer so that will lead us right into the later part of 2025

This isn’t divinely-inspired guessing.  I’m going with the GTA V pre-release timeline.

 

- GTA V trailer 1 released early November 2011

- GTA V first screenshots revealed mid-July 2012 (8 months after trailer 1)

- GTA V second batch of screenshots revealed 3 times in mid-August 2012 (9 months after trailer 1)

- GTA V trailer 2 released mid-November, approximately 1 year and 2 weeks after trailer 1.

 

So now that the Rockstar Newswire is freed up for August and September (8-9 months after GTA VI’s trailer 1), we should see GTA VI screenshots this month and next month.  October Newswire will be all about the Halloween events in GTA Online and RDO with GTA VI trailer 2 arriving on December 8th.  I’m basing that prediction off of the ‘8-ball VI 1 2’ tattoo which dropped in the Bottom Dollar Bounties DLC.

It would be ironic for GTA VI to be the most advanced game presented to the public and at the same time the most delayed of all, released 2 and a half years after the first trailer.
