An official reveal with a first trailer in the 2nd half of 2023 and a final release in the first half of 2025 seems the most reasonable option to me. I think it'll miss the Holiday 2024 "deadline" and will ultimately release in either April or May 2025.

Man I'm like 100% certain we will get an announcement this year and I can't imagine not getting one, but then again I felt the same way the past two years too... Like there's no way it can go wrong this year, but still somehow I imagine it will :modkek:

Watch all of us say the same thing in 2024 :prismkek: "It's gotta be this year!"

But in all seriousness, I think the general consensus from every R* source imaginable is we're getting an announcement in 2023.. now its just a matter of what day/month.

yea this time around we can actually guess what state the game is in currently, and I think we can all agree on the fact that the game is probably somewhere between 60-80% done by now, which leaves about 1-2,5 years until a finished product imo

I agree! I feel like everyone is getting a little bit disappointed and finally the hype is the lowest it has been in years!

But what worries me is that... they're not obliged to do nothing, because GTA Online is still going mildly strong, their last AAA game was released 5 years ago and their last game just got released last year! In terms of a company like Rockstar, their calendar is okay, so a release of a big game in 2026, for example, isn't far fetched.

Honestly, I want to believe 2023 is the year we'll start getting topics in their newswire, an official announcement and a few marketing plays and screenshots. Mainly because I think the landscape of gaming is changing. There's a count of failed Sandboxes trying to replace GTA, a resurgence of Indie games and shooters, and finally the worrying business of making everything free mobile games! So, my guess is Rockstar will try to get everything by storm and top the market again, dominating it for another 10 years.

Hope you're right. Although it would probably be another GTA Online update :kekw:

Anyways, if VI gets announced in the next few weeks, we're looking at a 2023 Holiday Season (October-December) release date, which is fine by me

nah fall 2024 earliest

I wonder if GTA Online actually is going that strong money wise. Feel like the FOMO cars and the price changes might be them trying to make up for a dip in revenue

Also ain't no way this is releasing in 2026. If it takes them 4 years to finish the game from the state we've seen in the leaks, maybe they should hang up their hats and call it quits.

I don’t know how anybody could watch the leaks and think the game is still 4 years away.

The last few videos from the leaks looked more finished than some recent games that have already released. Some of them even looked on par with RDR2, so there is that too.

I remember joining this forum 3 years ago to hear what others were saying about GTA VI's development and everyone was saying 2020 would be the year of a trailer.

Yeah, ever since the march 25th nonsense, it’s been like that every year.

Best guess if they announce soon this year then they could slate a fall 2024 release.

But unfortunately R* have a long track record of pushing dates back after they announce. IIRC RDR 2 in the first trailer was set for fall 2017 and ended up being a year later. Again going on memory T2 I think forecasted a huge bump in EPS for 2012 which strongly suggested they thought that was when GTA V would hit the shelves. Based on this previous form I would put my money on 2025 for an actual release at the earliest right now - even if they suggest sooner in a first trailer.

Not sure about the reveal (this fall?) but a 2025 release sounds about right. It's really hard to say what stage the development is in tho. Based off the leaked videos everything is possible. From "almost ready for reveal" to "halfway through development" idk...

Hope it's actually going to be announced this year, possibly fall. We are going to have 10th GTAV and 5th RDR2 anniversaries this year, I recon this will make people far more impatient than ever if the year will just go by with nothing to show. But anyway, so tired of waiting...

3 weeks for May to end :sadkek: well there goes Spring.

Sometime Fall it is then right? Or a summer announcement.

"Oh lord and here comes the National Barbecue Day and suddenly... here it is!

Just a picture can convince me you are real!

Just a picture!

But no, you have more than that! On World Baking Day you will give me that extra!

Thank you Lord R*!"

I would be surprised if we didn't get an announcement later this year. It's almost at the point now where they have to announce something. Rockstar generally take about 2 years to release a game after they announce it so an announcement this year would put release around the end of 2025. If they leave it any later then we're looking at a 2026 or even 2027 release. While I'm sure Rockstar would love to release the game that close to next gen consoles I just think it's too far away.

I'm about 90% confident we'll get an announcement in the next 4-6 months. Release will likely be late 2025 but I suppose there is the chance of a 2024 release if they originally planned to announce it at the end of last year which I think they did but held off because of the leaks. I think 2025 is the safe bet though. A Spring 2025 release is possible but I won't believe it. I still have my Spring 2013 poster for GTA V and I won't fall for those lies again!

No matter with the year will be, 2024-2025 or even 2026+, one thing for sure is that it'll not release in the Spring/Summer calendar years. Releasing it during Late in the year, especially the Holidays will give it the biggest profit maximization  that surely Take Two Strives for, especially for a popular/mainstream game like GTA. We saw this with GTA TDE releasing in November 11th 2021, just 2 weeks before the Holiday shopping begins. So, the most popular speculated years are 2024 2025. Either a Holiday/November-December 2024 or Holiday 2025 release date makes sense with the sake of profit maximization, similar to consoles releasing later in the year during the Holiday shopping season.

Speaking of delays especially in relation to the Fiscal 2025 window, there are recent policy changes within the industry that may contribute to a delay. Changes to WFH policy and returning to office with a hybrid policy enforcing mandatory 3 in-office days. Which has risk of losing talent or is already bleeding staff.

You have the CEO stating the following and that many senior members share his view. But the devs in disapproval state that the decision is made by 1-3 executives/managers refusing feedback.

Spoiler

There's word that one Rockstar studio is considering eventually returning to pre-pandemic full-time office schedule as we arrive much closer to VI's release window. I had a sense of doubt, but seeing the CEO stating the above increases that possibility. The risk of losing talent contributes to a higher chance of a delay.

Do you expect many developers to leave Rockstar if this turns out to be true then? A delay to early-mid 2025 is expected anyway.

Didn't Jason report last year a group of designers at Rockstar North quit in 2022 because of the lack of progress? Has the development significantly ramped up?

This is all massive speculation in regards to GTA VI/R* however and it fully depends on the current state of the game. Developers leaving studios earlier in a title's development is much worse than them leaving in mid-later development - RTO policies or not, a lot of developers across the industry working on very large projects often leave after big milestones or releases anyway, to get some fresh air in different parts of the industry, and this doesn't always affect projects, if at all. (depends on where in the project these departures happen and why)

It's true that a lot of devs are protesting such policies in the industry and looking for different studios which allow remote or actual hybrid (and I support that, it's the future and RTO policies are backwards-thinking), but saying that this can affect GTA VI in a big way or whatever just sounds like a big fat can of fearmongering at this moment.

Strauss comes in with a big forecast for Fiscal 2025 most likely because some sort of development milestone was hit and they can be more confident about dates, meanwhile you post that which kind of is the antithesis of that. :p They'd probably be worried and not be doing forecasts so far out if talent bleed was a huge concern for the project atm. It may happen closer to release (meaning LESS of a problem for the game), sure, but we can't say anything for sure and doing this kind of speculation is adding fuel to a fearmongering fire that doesn't need to exist.

Not all people know how game development works, and reading things like this can cause panic where there doesn't need to be any. There might be delays, yeah, I mean, not like we haven't had delays with every R* game, but I think it's too early to be speculating such things in this perspective.
