The Flashback FM radio should have been a 70's disco and funk radio with some Bee Gees, The Trammps, Hot Chocolate, etc., since the late 90's were very nostalgic for the late 70's. Whoever was in charge of making the radios for this game was either extremely limited by budget or just did a terrible job at picking the songs.

Yeah the radio selection was a step back with fewer tracks per station but I'm just pissed off the fact that 3 and lcs have no rock station.

Head Radio and Lips 106 (if they had licensed soundtracks)

 

Missed opportunity imo, but since the game is set in 1998, it's a shame that trip hop/breakbeat (which were relatively popular genres even stateside, and prominently featured in GTA 2) was more or less absent in the radio stations (Most tracks in Head and The Lips sounded more like 2000s pop songs). They could have re-used some of the tracks from GTA 2 to get that turn-of-the-century, Matrix vibe that it had.

 

For Head, I used the GTA 2 (and a bit of 3) rendition as a blueprint for song selection. I tried mixing up the playlist with songs that are your typical radio-friendly alternative hits (Cranberries, Alanis Morissette, Saint Etienne) with some darker, harder electronic stuff (Fluke, Massive Attack, Crystal Method). In short, it's like a crossover between Non-Stop Pop and Radio X.

Considering how Lips 106 had a mostly urban contemporary/Group-centric playlist as opposed to Head Radio's slightly more eclectic and alternative format, it would make sense if bands like TLC or NSYNC made an appearance in there.

I liked that they included fake songs like they did with GTA III I think a good combo of both would have worked.

First of all, I like 90's techno/trance/electronica etc. I was listening to Charanjit Singh's Ragas and one commenter said that they sound similar to this track. I think Radio Del Mundo would've been much better if it featured such sounds.

I think Flashback 95.6 in LCS should've featured the parts of Scarface soundtrack which weren't featured in it's III rendition: "Turn Out the Night", "The Right Combination", "Dance Dance Dance", "Success" and maybe even "Vamos a Bailar", although "Vamos a Bailar" fits Radio Espantoso in VC more.

Joyride definitely should have been in it. I mean personally I think given its importance to the series origins it should be in every game but it would have fit in particularly well in LCS since it was both a prequel to 3 which also had it and it was set in the late 90s which is when both the song and GTA 1 were created.

That would be awesome; yeah a classic rock station would be an impeccable fit for liberty city stories, especially for the biker gang and its more commericalised section of liberty jam and rise FM to give as examples of well known musicians/hits from the genres they are derived from.

 

Here are my suggestions that would make the cut for the exisiting radio stations;

(If you ask me, Roscoe Stow remind me of The Wallflowers by quite a huge margin.)

Actually funny enough it wasn't this video that got taken down, the guy got his account terminated, especially when it was a lot of his San Andreas stations that got taken down.

If there's one genre that should've desperately made an appearance in liberty City stories; its simply Nu-Metal. I don't understand why it's not in the game,  I mean it's set in 98, we should've seen bands like Korn, Coal Chamber and Soufly.

This game's soundtrack had some real potential to capture the late 90's music scene well - but decided to drop it in favour for in-house music. Which is fine, I enjoyed the in-house tracks, but it wouldn't have compared to having some real late 90s pop/alternative rock. The only real authentic stations in this game are Rise and Liberty Jam, which is a shame.

 

That said...

Song might be a somewhat overplayed one, but would've worked very well in Rise FM still.
