Absurdity
He's the epitome, the manifestation of ascetic, of the ideal aristocratic man. He's hypersensitive. He smells, tastes, feels everything on a higher level, and yet at the same time, he is detached. He eats human beings, select parts of human beings, and so what does that tell us about him? Well, that he considers them as prey. He's not one of them. He is other than them, and what else is he doing in the film? He's looking for people, people like him, because he is isolated. Surrounded by crap. That is, more base individuals. He also doesn't feel guilty lying to these base humans that he considers to be his prey. I mean, you wouldn't feel ashamed about lying to a dog, would you?... Or a sheep. You could, if you were very hyper sensitive feel guilty for eating a lamb, but if you are this aristocratic type as Hannibal is and you eat a lamb, you could be kind to it one moment, and you could kill and eat it to survive in the next. One also has to wonder whether the author of the book was using Hannibal to convey some type of message. Nietzsche used metaphor, he clouded his message, he used stimuli and imaginary, he talked over peoples heads to hide what he could not speak openly. He provided small titbits for higher minds to follow. Hmm. So, anyway, that was a little bit about Hannibal. What about you? Do you have a character you'd like to profile and tell us a bit about? Maybe a favourite character, or maybe even one that you really dislike? Payne Killer
The Dedito Gae
Hannibal looks like Richard Nixon in that drawing. Payne Killer
Queen
It's a damn shame they canceled the Hannibal TV series. Mads Mikkelsen was incredible as Dr. Lecter.
Mister Kay
He is a stalker because he likes to watch people as they are. He doesn't speak much because he knows that speaking is an act of faking to possess knowledge when there's nothing to be known and nothing that can ever be communicated. He is cynical and at the same time hypocritical because he is aware of the inherent human cowardice that cannot be defeated. He is idealistic but his ideals are shattered.
