Could in game Moderators help?

Are there any online games that use in game Moderators? People placed in games by the game designers to actually see real time what is happening in their games?

I don't know if other titles use anything like this but do you think it could help with the cheating and modding in GTAO?

For example, if R* had players actually in lobbies similar to air marshals on aircraft. If someone, (Trusted by R*) was able to witness the different things happening in the game that do not come to R*'s attention through the general report function. I believe the report function is ineffective because of players trying to use it against others they just don't like.

If there were official R* sponsored players reporting incidents that R* could use and not be concerned about mistakenly banning legitimate players.

Perhaps if they had a reliable source they may be able to act more swiftly and decisively against cheaters etc. Maybe the game is too large to make this a realistic approach to the cheater question.

Should big brother be watching?

Moderators are only possible with dedicated servers.

Something which will evidently never happen in the lifetime of GTAO.

So you think Rockstar employees don't play GTA online in their spare time, and don't report back with their findings? Of course they do, but not as "official Rockstar sponsored players". Imagine the grief they'd get!

Rockstar employees play GTA online all the time, just like McDonalds employees who actually eat hamburgers.

I would assume such a player would be a R* employee.

NikkoCharger

Modders have trolled Rockstar employees during live streams in the past without getting banned, so I doubt moderators would do much.

Ahhh ok that makes sense. So there are some games that do this?

If these moderators were given the power to do much, it'd surely just be ripe for abuse.

Think about how many moderators it would take to get, say, one per session. If about 8 million people are playing, divide that by 30 ... It's a lot of people they'd have to hire. I don't think they'd be able to get that many people without letting some rogue moderators through the net.

You'd probably get moderators trolling and falsely banning people, etc.

I wouldn't suggest a moderator have any power to do anything other than offer trusted info to those who do have the authority to act.

@Jenkiiii,

Ya I could imagine the grief would be epic to a player like that if they were identifiable. I'm sure lots of R* folks play the game for sure! I was suggesting something officially sanctioned by R* to basically filter out false reporting.

If their actions were logged, they wouldn't.

One per session would obviously be far too many. That's why I wondered if the game is just too big for something like that.

I seen Rockstar moderators before but that was back in 2013.

The only thing remember is that the mods are in the Offical Rockstar Crew.

They joined in my public session and I got the "Your on Rockstar TV" Notification

So I assume there was a livestream at the time.

You really think a moderator system wouldn't be abused like hell?

No I don't think that actually. On the contrary I agree that it would be. Moderators in the context we're discussing would have no authority to act against any player. They would only facilitate information/evidence about real time events they actually witness.

This was just a muse because online cheating gets discussed here often. Personally I would have no idea how to make it work with a level of credibility that could be trusted by the players.

Its a moot point anyway. GradeA rightfully pointed out that this would not be possible under the current R* setup.

Fyi if an inforcement agent reports you its a console ban usually.

And no I don't surf here looking for gamertags. I only report in game infractions and other members do the same.

Appreciate your informed reply! As a member of xbox live enforcement, do you have any authority to act against any players or do you pass info/evidence up the chain?

Sessions DO have Rockstar spectators, it's called SCTV. But well, they barely do anything. You might notice that there's a spectator spot in freeroam sessions, that's for Rockstar.

Was just about to post this exact thing. You can access the SCTV slot via some mod menus on PC.

Depends on the infraction.

Cheating using a glitch is different than using hate speech but both are banable offenses. I Could've had assholes on warning for abusive language but in general consider the overall mentality of the people playing the games. If you do no harm I'm not against fun.

For instance I have reported a person for passive mode with guns but don't report clothing glitches. I've reported people for in game speech and that's about it. Its really in the guide lines. We are to be objective wthout being critical. I do personally record what I report now because I myself have been reported for my interactions with live members (I have cused a few out) and have been cleared through lives investigatioton process (basically you have more good standing than bad).

Are you sure they don't do this already secretly? Very often when someone starts spouting racist garbage on open mic they will suddenly leave the server.

Using regular players to moderate would be a disaster. Every good player dominating others would be kicked. bad players would have no incentive to get better. Anyone in a jet would be kicked even if they are only attacking appropriate targets.
