Let's talk about the GTAO Train for a moment...

  1. 1. What would you like to see, if any, introduced with Trains?

    • Train related missions or heists.
      131
    • Military Trains with player-accessible weapons.
      55
    • Personal Trains with an apartment-like coach.
      65
    • Luxury Trains with multi-accessible cars, like Bar Car, Gambling Car, etc.
      69
    • Super Trains for ultra fast travel around the map (think "Fast Travel").
      51
    • Trains with heli pads where you can call in or land a helicopter.
      25
    • Train School, much like the Flight School, where you complete objectives and get access to clothing, etc.
      31
    • Hobo Train, one of those pump-action style manual cars.
      43
    • Train-related Deathmatches (one team on the train, other team chases)
      78
    • God, not another stupid fw3 poll! Trains? Really? Get a job, bro.
      32
    • Other ideas (explain in reply)

One of the most, in my opinion, underrated, underused, and underappreciated vehicles in the game is the train.

I don't mean the subway, which heck, is also pretty darned cool, on it's own, but rather the unstoppable, all powerful map crawling rail Train.

If the thought of Volleyball Net puts blood-thinning shivers in your veins, then it's mobile equivalent has to be the Train.

While many, including myself, have tried to stop it (see the great video below - no, it's not mine), it simply will not be hindered or even slowed.

So, what kind of experiences have you had with the Train?
Do you ever use it to travel?
Ever place a vehicle on it for kicks?
I love jumping motorcycles onto it, again, for kicks.

But, what is the point of this devious and nefarious, indestructible landworm?
What, if anything, could Rockstar do to make this slitherous beast a more attractive and useable feature in the game?

Like the introduction of the Yachts, would players welcome the intro of Trains?
And what kind of trains would be introduced? Military, with weapons? Personal, that you could live on? Luxury, made of pure gold?

This seems to me to be one of the greatest, yet untapped elements of the game, much like the sewers.

Just curious to start a discussion about one of the coolest, yet most ignored things in GTAO and how we could all leverage it to possible enhance our game to a new level.

Cheers!

Derailed is one of my favorite missions in SP. Something like that online would be awesome.

Whenever I let my son play SP, he's always in front of the train in an Infernus acting out Back to the Future.

I'd like the addition of the hobo train. That could make things interesting.

C'mon, the train heist is what we really need. They have so many examples to borrow from - Red Dead Redemption AND Revolver, and SAN ANDREAS! Oh, and TBOGT.

I don't know, either the military train heist or robbing the Merryweather "monthly train". Although with all these inconsistencies and the segregation of GTA O and GTA V, I don't even know if their courier service was available at the time of Online.

Or some sort of survival on the train. First, usual coppers. Then, NOOSE rappelling from the choppers. Then, Merryweather and advanced NOOSE with better guns and armor. Something like the mix of Max Payne 3's "One Card Left To Play" and Uncharted 2's train chapters.

I suggested many moons ago that there could be a sort of train theft sub-heist.

You could either find out which train would be carrying a valuable load - maybe have to take a job as a dispatcher - or just attack one at random and hope that it's not a train full of manure.

Then, you could either stop the train in a secluded area, giving you more time to unload the goods but making it harder to escape from that area, or stop it out in the open causing the cops to be on you much sooner, but giving you more routes for a getaway.

Perhaps you could have to steal trucks with frame bed trailers, and then use a Cargobob to load containers from the train onto the trailers.

Not sure that I care for a train that you live on, but a luxury passenger train with bar cars and so on could be good for dicking about.

On a side note to the topic, @Manwaki, just want to extend kudos to you for being the kind of parent who doesn't just let their kid loose in GTAO, but who actively participates in the game and is aware of their kid's participation in the game. Too often kids are let loose with their parents completely unaware of their shenanigans, or worse, their interactions. I can certainly relate. Cheers! :)

Here is what I would do from the top of my head....

I'd have four teams.

Five train stops around the map.

One team gets on train, fighting a few NPCs that climb onto the moving train along the way to the first stop.

Meanwhile the other three teams at the other stops are fighting NPCs (like mini-survivals) while they wait for the train to arrive with the opposing Team.

Team 1 arrives at the first stop, gets out and battles Team 2. Winner proceeds to the next train stop.

(Team 3 and Team 4 are in survivals just collecting weapons and cash while they wait their turn)

The only team to make it to the last stop wins.

There is a timer at every stop where you have to kill the other team or the train leaves you behind.

That's what i got.

Nice, but unbalanced. You could be in the last team and only end up killing 1 team and win. How about 8 train carriages where you start with 2 teams, in carriages 4 & 5. You have to kill all the other team and then you can move forward a carriage and do it again. It's basically a conquest or supremacy type mode, but moving through a train. Different carriages could have different attributes, like the ones nearer to the end have fixed miniguns, or even have a couple of team members spawn in a Buzzard outside the very last carriage.

I have experimented in SP with NPCs and turret vehicles on trains and found out that they don't really like each other, they fall off and don't stay on it.

It's even worse to get a turreted vehicle on a train, because the lag will spawn you in the collision, thus either throwing you out with vehicle off the train or explode you.

If one were to make a train full of Merryweather mercenaries, he would have to use new special wagons with "seats" where the stupid NPCs are fixed to, while they fire at the player and platforms with "moored vehicles", which are essentially parts of the carriage, to enable the lagfree physics and perhaps special entry animations for the characters.

Capture The Train would be a sweet addition.

Thanks,

He is 10. I've let him play as my character in invite only, but he has a tendency of drowning my cars in bodies of water. He doesn't do missions, we turn the volume down, we just let him have fun. The hilarity when he found out he could jump from planes and free fall to his death was priceless. Anyway, it's all in moderation.

A train heist would be good.

I would like a mission like the one in Uncharted 2 or Medal Of Honor Frontline. Raid the train, kill the mercs, and derail it to steal something.

My mate lets his lad (5years old) loose in invite only sessions gets him a police car and guess who the bad guy is? Yep the silly cone head lol

As the little man calls it the police game :) off topic but cops and crooks needs to come back......Imagine been the cops trying to stop a bullion robbery? Would be interesting

1 team defending the cargo

1 team as police instead of the annoying usual

1 team of tooled up criminals

I played with this kid a couple of years ago on xbox online and he stopped the train by placing sticky bombs on the engine area and blowing them up. When I tried it later it didn't work. Maybe I didn't place them in the right place exactly, but it for sure stopped that time.

You used to be able to blow it up, it was quite easy to do. For some reason it was removed and is now nigh unstoppable. There also used to be a glitch to get inside the cabin of the locomotive. Not sure if it still works or not.
