How many updates more can the ps4 and xbox one handle?

Due to the Gta online updates being a little bit huge. Im just curious can the dreams of the gta fanbase of map expansions mansions and casinos can all of that hit the ps4 and xbox one? I aint too tech savy but im kind of worried about the current gen consoles limitations? Am i just paranoid or the ps4 and xbox one can still handle numerous heavy updates? Or we will only get a few more and then Grand theft auto 6 will hit the current gen and pc?

They'll probably just use the same black magic they did to make GTA V work on the PS3/360.

Well Microsoft already announced they are going to may possibly start selling hardware upgrades for Xbone, this tells you they are struggling.

Yeah the xbox one has a DDR3 right? and the ps4 has a DDR5?

Are you referring to how large (or 'a little bit huge') the downloads are? I think you are.

No i mean that the people are having huge expectations of huge map upgrades and mansions. But what rockstar are actually launching are a bunch of 1 gb/2gb updates. If they keep on adding those little 1gb updates. Then slowly those small updates will fill up the memory without adding any huge updates. Heists was a good change from those crappy small updates.

The size of the downloads has very, very little to do with RAM.

If that is the case then why the previous gen consoles got retired way too early? Im kind of new and dumb about the exact specifications of technology.

I thought the XBOX boss backed down on that and said that he only meant software upgrades ?

Because they run on old and slower hardware then the new consoles, that means longer loading times, less things you can render on a screen and so on. Also you have to port your content to very different software systems running in the back, which costs time and money. On the other hand the CG consoles have a architecture very similar to a pc, which saves time and money.

Correct me if im wrong. I just think that the ps3 was a huge upgrade from the ps2 and was around 40x stronger than the ps2. And the ps4 and the ps3 are sharing common games like cod ghosts and gta v.

I just think that this gen of consoles are a little bit weak.

Yes but both have 8GB shared between CPU/GPU, which is utterly ridiculous. The problem is not how large the download is, but how many textures the GPU will have to render. This is why Rockstar no longer support 360/PS3, because they ran out of memory for loading new textures, something that will soon happen to consoles. CPU power will probably never be an issue, even with only 1.6ghz on PS4, the game already runs. I would guess if they ever added a new map, it would just be a new loading zone.

Don't forget that they are developing the game for both consoles. So just because one is slightly better doesn't mean they will add/make it better. The PC version was developed in parallel and is a completely separate version, so our versions can be tweaked more specifically for the PC platform.

TL;DR: Even though the PS4 has slightly better RAM, you're still following Xbone limits.

Source? The only thing i've seen is they have talked about it but nothing has been confirmed.

Ps4 has GDDR5, DDR5 doesn't exist.

Xbox360 and ps3 had 512mb shared so more like 256mb effective for games. Xbone/PS4 have 8gbs (4-5gbs usable for games).

Op it can handle lots more.

Because last gen had 1/16 the ram of new gen consoles

Put simply, animations and models (cars, guns, people, etc) that the game has to render and move about take up RAM and the LGs were bursting at the seams.

Xbox 360 and PS4 had 512Mb total, shared between the CPU and GPU.

XB1 and PS4 have 8Gb, or 16 times as much.

It'll be a while.

Heh 8 or 9 ninjas later...

So the final question is this gen gonna last longer or shorter than previous gen?

Shared memory isn't ridiculous, it gives you more options. Say you need more memory for graphics then CPU things, go ahead and allocate them to the GPU. The only thing ridiculous about it is the amount, 8GB isn't really that much, especially when the system running the game needs some of that memory too.

Shorter, not because of ram but because of how low powered the cpu and gpu are. These consoles were obsolete on release where as ps3 and 360 were pretty powerful at the time.

Nope. PS4 and Xbone both reserve RAM for the CPU only, meaning the GPU cannot access it at all. PS4 reserves 3.5GB and Xbone 3GB, completely inaccessible for the GPU. It's just a way for the manufacturers to save money.

The issue of available disk space is more of an "issue" for the PS4 and XBox One right now than RAM or processing power will be for some time.

And there are plenty of YouTube "how tos" to take care of that.

You can buy rams for your PS4. They make it go faster.

No, in all seriousness, the answer is 7.

MS and Sony will never allow a game on their consoles which needs more diskspace than what the Xbone and PS4 offer from the manufacture side.

Correct, but they'll probably allow a degraded experience for un-upgraded consoles.

IE like the RAM expansion for the N64. sh*tty game or full game (graphics etc) depending on whether you had it.

4 and then it is done.

Also, I need more HDD space! I had to actually uninstall a game to accommodate the new update.

Man, wtf are we even talking about. Installing, updating, HDD space... IT'S A CONSOLE! If I wanted to deal with all this sh*t I would not have abandoned PC gaming a decade ago.

as far as graphics and processing you are correct.... the last gen jump was on the order of 70x teraflops, this gen change was about 6-8x

Single player on the X360 and Ps3 had animals and other features that still are not online., has nothing to do with console capabilities

The new machines are media devices designed to stream TV, movies, music etc and are optimized for that function, the gaming functions are only slightly improved...

It's like saying "Bob Hoskins" when playing Trivial Pursuit. One day you'll be right.

Besides, 7x6=42 so it must be right.
