FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROCKSTAR GAMES ANNOUNCES GRAND THEFT AUTO: VICE CITY FOR PC

- The Best Selling Game Of 2002 Heads To The PC This Spring -

New York, NY- February 14, 2003- Rockstar Games, proudly announced today that the PC version of the global blockbuster, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, is set to hit retail shelves in North America on May 13th and in Europe on May 16th.  The PC version will possess enhanced features including improved graphics and sound, additional PC controls, as well as several options for players to customize the game.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the sequel to last year’s best-selling Grand Theft Auto 3, has once again received universal critical acclaim, a multitude of awards and financial success by becoming the fastest selling, highest grossing PlayStation®2 game released to date, outdoing its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 3.  Released for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system last October, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City had the distinct honor of becoming the undisputed number-one selling video game of 2002.  The Grand Theft Auto franchise has now achieved the unimaginable feat of ruling the video game sales charts two years in a row.

"We felt that we had to truly outdo ourselves when it came to developing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and felt that we owed it to the fans to continue to keep enhancing and delivering the gameplay, cinematic graphics, production values and audio experience that have become synonymous with the Grand Theft Auto franchise," said Sam Houser, president of Rockstar Games. "We are truly humbled by the response that the game has received so far and are extremely excited to showcase Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the PC.”

“The real beauty behind Grand Theft Auto is not only the freedom that it allows the players, but also the freedom that it has given us as developers," added The Benz, president of Rockstar North. "The open ended, non-linear world of Grand Theft Auto allows us to stretch the limits of our imaginations by giving us an open canvas to work with.  This was especially the case when it came to creating Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.  The 80’s fashion styles, music, and sensibility fueled our creativity to the fullest.  We are extremely excited for the PC world to experience the fruits of our labor when the enhanced version of the game is released this spring."

Since its release in October 2002 on the PlayStation 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has continued to be a worldwide phenomenon and sales juggernaut gracing the top of sales charts everywhere it has been released. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has taken the videogame industry to new heights with feature articles in Time, SPIN, Rolling Stone, MAD Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, The Associated Press and USA Today to countless cover stories in the world’s top videogame publications and receiving more than 40 awards, including numerous "Game of the Year" commendations. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has been unanimously praised for its technical innovation, groundbreaking design, stylish approach, and overall fun factor.

I also emailed back asking about the multiplayer support rumour going around and this was their response,

Hi Craig,

That is just a rumour. This is the first statement we have released about the game so anything beyond it is pure speculation.

Thanks,

Rockstar Games

So it looks as though there is no Multiplayer for us immediately :(

Isn't Vice a prequel? And I thought it was released in November...I could be wrong. And can we see a link to as where you got this from?

It's not a _quel anything...The stories don't run together at all.

, as well as several options for players to customize the game.

Wonder what that means....

Damn, looks like I gotta save up too for a new CPU, MB, and video card.  GTA3 runns sluggish on my Athlon 1GHz and GeForce DDR when I run it in 800x600.  GTA Vice is probably going to make matters worse if I stay with my setup.

I find it funny that two people post this exact same thing, in two different areas of the forums, very close to the same time. Anyways, good news, good news indeed.

The new GTAVC engine should probably run better on pc than gta3. from what i read the "enhanced" game engine will only draw what the player currently sees on the screen. Unlike GTA3 where it draws all the polygons at one time for each island. So you wont have to worry about the computer tring the draw the polygons on a building behind you and around the corner. I personally have a 1.53ghz athlon and a 128 ati radeon and it still has its stutter quite often. this all information that was said by rockstar (dont remember where) about the ps2 version, but id imagine it would work the same way on pc. :r*:

of course that idea would be pure speculation as said by rockstar in my second email  ;)

What's the deal with the link sending you to a MS word typr page??

I cannot see this being true as there is no word on the official Rockstar and Gta sites.

The guy wanted to know where the info was from. It is official and came direct from the Rockstar Webmaster because i run GTA Sites and they often send us info. You should see it up on lots of other sites soon since it was sent out as a mass mail to loads of webmasters.

This is indeed true, official, and real! w00t! Thanks for the post DJNeuphoria. I was about to post it myself, but you beat me to it... I'll go ahead and pin this topic then. :)

Hmmm, I wonder what they meant by this line:

...as well as several options for players to customize the game.

Will they give us some editors this time around, or do they just mean player skins and mp3's again?

Yes they do. It's part of the GTA universe, and 15 years later GTA3 happened. It shares the same history as GTA3.

Rockstar just meant that it's not meant to be taken as the Star Wars type prequel.

:furious:

for once... this is NOT a rumor. As the webmaster replied to DJNeuphoria's email about Multiplayer rumour.. this is the FIRST official announcement about Vice City on PC. This one is as real as it gets :D

you should be happy about it man :)

i got this same email too, the webmaster sent it too like 20 GTA related site webmasters, which they do quite often with stuff like this

read and shiver :)

I think it might be good if they release some editors but then you dont get the fulfillment from hacking a game that wasnt supposed to be modded and being able to add real life cars and new cities to it.

I would expect theyll include skins for sure since they were such a big thing in GTA3 and the MP3 player would probably still be there.

maybe some additional skins instead of the uhh like 6 skins in the PS2 version :)

would be pretty cool

but.. all we can do is wait and find out what the extras will be :D *very excited!

I don't call it advertising....I call it helping people....ask anyone that doesn't run a website...

Anyway the Vice City PC sites will begin pouring in.

The fact that you can put your logo and site url under EVERY post (some have over 1000) in your signature but you can't tell it in a post once or twice is the most stupid idea ever.  Its not about who is better.  Its about helping visitors to the best content.  :rah:  :rah:  :rah:

Anyway, back on topic.  (this means dont respond to what I just said so DONT...i dont want a flame war)

GTA VC PC - Multiplayer Support for the masses!!

Believe it or not.

Well what you said would have been speculation way back then since this is the first release of any official info and rockstar confirmed that multiplayer support was a rumor.
