Rockstar Games has been around for a while and have published an insane amount of great games. Out of all the years they've been around, which ones have been your favorite?

1997-1999 (DMA Designs Era):

Now they weren't called Rockstar Games at this time but thought I'd include this era anyways.

Grand Theft Auto (1997)

Body Harvest (1998)

Space Station Silicon Valley (1998)

Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 (1999)

Grand Theft Auto: London 1961 (1999)

Tanktics (1999)

Wild Metal Country (1999)

Grand Theft Auto 2 (1999)

2000-2007 (3D Era):

Midnight Club: Street Racing (2000)

Max Payne (2001)

Grand Theft Auto III (2001)

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002)

Midnight Club II (2003)

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (2003)

Manhunt (2003)

Red Dead Revolver (2004)

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004)

Grand Theft Auto Advance (2004)

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (2005)

The Warriors (2005)

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (2005)

Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis (2006)

Bully (2006)

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (2006)

Manhunt 2 (2007)

2008-2012 (HD Era):

Grand Theft Auto IV (2008)

Midnight Club: Los Angeles (2008)

Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned (2009)

Beaterator (2009)

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (2009)

Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (2009)

Red Dead Redemption (2010)

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (2010)

L.A Noire (2011)

Max Payne 3 (2012)

2013-present (Online Era):

Grand Theft Auto V (2013)

Grand Theft Auto Online (2013)

EDIT: I realize I made a mistake in not putting V and possibly Online in the HD Era section. Oh well, too late to change it now. My b.

2001-2007 obviously had the most releases, but I feel the 2008-2012 era was more polished. Not just with the IV trilogy but with RDR and L.A. Noire as well. L.A. Noire is seriously very underrated.

2008-2012. IMO this is R*'s greatest period regarding story telling, technical potential, polish etc.

From that Era, I've not played three of them. Beaterator, Midnight Club LA, and Max Payne 3.

'Rail Shooters' like that don't interest me in the least. I hope that's okay with you Zello?

Payne on the other hand... Hoo boy. :sarcasm:

Well you've played GTA V Phill where almost every mission is like a rail/corridor shooter. What harm would it do?:p

I think you should give it a go. It's a great game.

Touche. Well, considering that I drove around my Modded PPV's that technically doesn't count. :p

2008-2012 for sure and I'm not sure they will ever top those years. I mean GTA IV and RDR are timeless masterpieces, definitely in my Top 5 games of all time.

Then there is TLAD, MP3 and L.A. Noire, all three also very well done. Something common with all these games are the well written stories and characters.

After V's lackluster writing and the annoying Online focus, I'm really worried for the next Red Dead. The current Rockstar years are easily the worst.

2001-2007 > Most favorite. Absolute classics take place during this time.

1997-1999 > Favorite, mainly for the most loved top-down action game of mine, GTA 2!

I've got to say that 2008/2012 it's the best years for me. But Vice city and SA gave me a lot of fun. I think the gold era for R* was 2001/2012.

2008-2012 for me mostly because of Red Dead, IV, Chinatown and Max Payne. To be honest, I haven't played L.A Noire in a while so I can't recall how amazing it was. I gotta play it again once I 100% some of these GTA games.

I'm surprised you didn't also choose the 200-2007 Era. It's got GTA VCS in it. ;)

The aforementioned Era is my Second Favourite.

Well obviously I have to say 2008-2012. It has GTA IV AND Red Dead.

All the 2013-present has is GTA V..... and it doesn't have SP DLC like the other two games.

every game from rockstar during 2008-2012 was either a 9/10 or a 10/10. except for max payne 3, that game was the begining of the decline from rockstar, it should be put in with gta v and gta online since its closer to those two in terms of physics.

i honestly dont count LA noir as a rockstar game. but from gta 4 to red dead redemption rockstar was the best video game company during that period. nothing but quality content that was worth 60 dollars. its a shame how low the have stooped.

I think we are still in the third (HD) era. This is just going by the style of games they release.

Advance and Chinatown Wars are more of an extension of the old eras.

1997-1999 - i had fun with gta 2 but thats it

2001-2007 - this period had GTA III, Vice City, Manhunt, San Andreas, The Wariors, Bully and Table Tennis all developed by r* so i guess this is the best one !

2008-2012 - GTA IV, ELFC, CTW, Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption are all great rockstar games too so this is 2nd

2013-present meh but off to a great start gta five
