Question About Traffic

Sometimes I'm in a lobby where the traffic AI and traffic lights function properly. Other times, the traffic lights seem bugged (both directions are red) or the traffic just drives right into you or waits at the intersection till you're close and then floors it right in your way. Anyone else noticing the same thing? Any comments regarding this?

It's always been this way.

Really? I don't remember it being like this, I've had the game since last gen launch. It started within the last couple updates...

Undercover cops

Lol. Yea, possibly... :panic:

Add it to the long list of broken things in GTAO.

I never saw traffic lights doing that, but the AI always seemed to collide with you on purpose. E.g. when you're driving on the highway about to overtake a random npc and he decides to suddenly switch lanes.

I can can tell you don't drive IRL by this comment.

The first part of your post is related to a very, very old bug in this game. Nothing to be done about it.

The second part is a intentional part of the AI, it is coded like that

Drive very slowly and you'll see that the traffic is built to accommodate you, rather than get in your way. It's basically badly written logic that can't handle high speed.

No, it's properly written, to interfere with you if you are going full speed in a straight line, i.e. not really driving or paying attention. Just fully depressing the R2 and not moving the thumbstick should be a recipe for disaster in a driving game. At slower speeds you can simply react better, and the intentional AI obstructions move into place more slowly/less noticeably. The problem is it's poorly written, because it is blatantly obvious at high speed.

It was made a bit worse in subsequent updates than when first released, but AI traffic has always been there to screw with you, and in whatever way mocks real life driving (bad lane changes, running opposing lights, hit and run). The traffic lights function as they do for the same purpose, it's not intended to flow like a real intersection, rather it is intended to obstruct, hence more red lights.

No it isn't. You haven't done what I suggested, have you? You've just told me I'm wrong. I know from experience that what I said is 100% true. Seriously, spend a whole week riding around on a BMX and you'll see how the traffic is meant to act. They never seem to purposely ram into you, or even stop in front of you. They actually stop in time for you to ride in front of them. Crashes go down to very low numbers, like 1% of when you're going fast.

This conversation has been done to death, and unless you can explain deterministic logic and AI programming then I'm sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about.

Yep, you're right. A driving game's AI created to accommodate BMXers that doesn't scale up to cars is badly written. It's GTA, of course the NPCs should anticipate 100 mph traffic and get out of the way, it was just so badly written it does the exact opposite. I'm such an idiot.

I am right. As I said, if you can explain (or even understand) the subject matter then we have a discussion. Otherwise I'm having a conversation with a conditioned animal.

I had this problem up until I purchased a shark card then the traffic disappeared all together...

Thanks for the replies guys. ZakeBudek, I really liked your explanation, I guess it makes sense if you look at it that way... This was just really screwing with my head lol I had to see if others were experiencing the same issue as I was.

I think the way traffic behaves depends on your character's mental state. When your character becomes a pychopath, traffic is out to get you more. Even when you are walking on the sidewalks NPCs will try and still run you over. They also run into you and make you crash when the cops are crashing you. Rockstar is continuously f*cking up freemode. That is why people are not playing GTA no more. They also made it so when players with high mental states do one little crime, they instantly get cops spawned on them. That is why people suicide right after they kill someone.
