whitewizardg
So I just bought this game 2 days ago and it ran great, 60 fps, no drops, no stuttering. Then today I saw Nvidia had a new video driver out, so I installed it and now the game starts at 60 fps and whenever I move the game freezes for a split second and the fps drops to 15-25, it is constant, I have reinstalled my drivers, the game and even changed to settings to low, and nothing seems to fix it. I read on Steam to turn off any razer/realtek programs and thatll fix my problem- didnt I read that pressing alt/enter 2x will fix it, didnt I reinstalled the game and drivers, didnt help Ive done a few other things that I found online like changing the DX version in the settings file in the GTA folder to 0, didnt help, I have been trying solutions all day and I just cant get this game to run the way it did the day I got it (which was 2 days ago lol) I have the non-steam version My pc specs are GTX 970 4gb I5-4690 3.5 ghz16 GB RamWin 10 Edited March 2, 2016 by whitewizardg
FourFingersOfFun
I'm pretty sure you can install older driver versions, try that and see if it helps.
whitewizardg
So I did a clean install of the last driver, not the newest one and the game runs perfect again. Now I can finally play but what happens when I need to upgrade my driver for a newer game? GTA will become broken again.
whitewizardg
Nevermind, installing the older driver and doing a fresh install of the game only gave me about 30-40 mins of smooth gameplay before the stuttering and fps drop comes back and now its constant, starts at 60 fps, then drops to 15-20 and bounces every second either up or down 20-30 fps
Maryo_Nicle7
Try this: -Change Texture Quality Settings to High. -Try to use DirectX 10 (ingame setting). -Stop using the integrated Self Radio, use Self Radio 1.2 mod by Jedijosh instead.
E•MO•TION
The recent Windows 10 update (KB3140743) caused a number of issues with my games including what you describe with GTA V. Try uninstalling it. Rev.Garrison

FourFingersOfFun
If you're having FPS drops try alt tabbing out of the game, then going back to the game, fixes it for me every time.

Incorgnito
I had the exact same issue. I had even tried reverting to the old update as well with no luck. The issue is actually caused by doing that new update and it messing up settings. I dug into the Nvidia control panel and Vertical Sync and Triple Buffering were both switched off. These should both be switched ON. To do this: -Right click on your background -Click on Nvidia Control Panel -Under the "3D Settings" tab click on "Manage 3D Settings"-Scroll down near the bottom and turn Vertical Sync and Triple Buffering to ON.Hopefully that helps! philbeau
I'm gonna give credit from where I read it, but 3Chainz on steam forum said that you have to launch the game without having your xbox 360 or whatever gamepad your are using. Then wait until you are in-game to turn on the controller. The cpu usage is normal this way. I had the same problem as you and now everything is working fine. TheHumanIsland
Provided you don't have an SSD (never do this to SSD), can you try to defragment your hard drive? If your drive was already in good shape, Is your hard drive very full, and of a large capacity? The bigger the capacity, and deeper out into the end of the drive it is, the slower that access time is going to be, especially for massive files like the archives V uses. Can you try to defray with something like Auslogics Disk Defrag or Defraggler or so, to see if it improves? It may be a long shot since it happened (seemingly at least) with nvidia drivers changes. When you reinstalled your drivers, did you use DDU utility to uninstall them and do a clean install? Really, I think the "perform clean" option will work just as good, but maybe to be sure? If you rule out the driver and the windows update mentioned by others, try defragmenting, maybe something occured that caused it. If you want, before you run a defrag, maybe check the disk for errors, it could be having issues that only recently arose. BAM! no more studder 95fps on high settings never dropping below 60fps. Reconnect controller once you are online.
