Jap is a pretty tame ass term, and people often use it without meaning it as an offensive term in any way. People like shortening longer words, and there really isn't anything else to shorten Japanese too. People do it without thinking. I can remember watching Takeshi's Castle and Craig Charles using "Jap" and "Jappy" and nobody gave a sh*t, because it wasn't meant in an offensive way whatsoever. I can remember Bush one time referring to Pakistan as "the Pakis" and he didn't mean it maliciously. It seems stupid to me to get worked up over something like that and use it as a huge mark against someone and label them racist. If you want to use that sort of thing as a reason to not like him and even castigate him and really attack him as a person then that's up to you, but there are plenty of people who don't really give a sh*t about that sort of thing. That's why racism really is a subjective opinion and not a fact at all. It's down to the individual what they regard as racist and if it's a hugely negative thing that they can't get over or forgive.
