Can we take a moment to appreciate the script of this game?

One thing which has always made me love GTA V Story Mode is the amazing script. The writers done an amazing job, no kidding! Lines such as "Surviving is winning, Franklin!" and "Hypocrisy, Franklin. Civilisation's Greatest Virtue." The script, in my opinion, is better than most games.

Lines are funny, meaningful and fitting to the character at best. Lines such as "You always liked gasoline, Trevor!" have way deeper meaning to them than just insults to the character, these lines, when thought about, remind players of times where Trevor has used gasoline, such as when he exploded the O' Neill family home.

The acting from all 3 characters was better than acting from high-budget movies! Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno and Steven Ogg definitely portrayed the contrasting trio perfectly.

Appreciation thread? I give this until morning.

OT: I agree. Franklin and Lamar's interactions were always entertaining to me.

The Dedito Gae

The script wasn't that great and the actors improvised most of it, VA's saved that aspect of the game.

The passion behind the actors is what fueled the script to be memorable, after all.

The VA's were great, agree on that. I especially liked Ned Luke as Michael

Not going to say anything about the script since this isn't a negative thread...

Unfortunately, you're going to see the same regurgitated arguments about how V's script and writing is trash and IV is the holy grail of story writing if you dare to make a thread praising it. I give this thread 5 pages at most with it boiling down to the same 4 people wasting their own time beating each other with sticks until a mod locks it.

But yes, the script was great and the way the actors did the performances was great.

Well V has a great tong and cheek script. It's a like superhero movie, if you try too look for any deepness or complexity you will be disappointed. It is very different from IV and I can understand why some fans are disappointed/frustrated.

Yes. The script is just awesome. Remember that mission "Friends Reunited" when Trevor goes to the trailer park with Wade? It is scripted to always happen in a heavy thunderstorm at night. When I have played it for the first time, I got f*cking chills. It is still the best thing I have ever seen in videogames for 17 years of playing on PC. Did you notice how that Dre all-time hit ("Still D.R.E.") always starts playing in the end of "Chop" and "Marriage Counseling" missions? This is amazing. I love this song and I was so happy it is included in the soundtrack. And what about the score? It is absolutely brilliant. Just epic. Listen to this track and feel how GRAND this Grand Theft Auto installment is!

The acting from ALL characters was amazing. Acting, lines, script, score + hilarious gameplay, cool and really huge map, a lot of customization options and perfect PC port make this game just top of the league. Too f*cking bad a lot of fans of the previous "game" in the series didn't enjoy this masterpiece. Actually I feel sorry for them... If I were they, I'd probably be infuriated too, just picture you're a fan of the game that lacks acting, story, gameplay, customization and lags as hell no matter how good your PC is. Kinda upset isn't it?

ugh you just had to do it again didn't you? And your post was going so well too all things considered..

I'm glad you enjoyed it a lot but not everyone has to. F*cking deal with it.

Nice to see that at least some V fans can understand the opposite viewpoint.

And I get too why one would enjoy V more. It has more entertaining missions and overall is just a lot more fun. GTA IV is pretty "heavy" and as much as I like it more the missions can get repetitive at times.

Overall its just like some enjoy the Avengers more than the Dark Knight, nothing wrong with that imho.

Still wish V was more like IV but it is how it is. Maybe Rockstar will go back to that style one day.

I didn't find much deepness or complexity in IV that I should feel disappointed with the script of V.

I thoroughly enjoyed Vs script more than IV even though the story could have been a lot better handled but its a welcome change on Rockstar's part that needs to be appreciated.

It was not boring and I could still get into easily thanks to the script and the connected missions that do the job good, if not fully satisfying.

'You spend your whole life running, and one day, your legs just give. You can't run anymore.'

GTA games always had amazing voice acting, but I think this one takes the cake. It's either that or the script.

Phenomenal script. One of the best in the series. The story is absolutely awesome, a breath of fresh air, and the government intrigue is an amazingly well implemented motif.

I'll say it once, just as I have in almost every thread I see where people can't discuss V and IV comparatively without descending into memes and antagonism - stop being dicks. I don't care if you like V better or if you like IV better, just respect each other's opinion. Disagree with someone? Either debate like adults or walk away.

Gta v was awesome but imop it was probably other than Gta III's story one of the weakest plots in the series. I am a huge fan of III and V too, but i felt like those games thrived more on the gameplay aspects whereas Vice City, Gta IV , and even san andreas too was more on the plot. Even being weaker, I would still rather play III's story and V's story again over 99 percent of games from other developers.

"As for you, you gotta figure that I never told anyone. That instead of gently decomposing in North Yankton, you're angrily decomposing in Los Santos with a shrink... and a wife who don't love you no more."

Yeah, Dan Houser really has a knack for strong lines.

I have certain problems with some of the dialogue (with Trevor in particular, but it pops out across the board - the dialogue sometimes feels a little too manufactured, a little too eloquent; I don't think people like Trevor would talk in real life like they do in the game), but there is still definitely a lot of good writing in this game. I'd say it's pretty impressive that it's as good as it is, considering Houser doesn't have any formal writing training, as far as I know.

Where did my post go? I suggested that the OP go and play Red Dead Redemption or LA Noire to get a taste of genuine story writing. Why was this removed?

Cheers!

so funny to see IV fanboys in V forum..

GTAV is by far the best of Rockstar and its still a work in progress

Stop living in the past

Not this again....

Its the best of Rockstar IN YOUR OPINION, its not a f*cking fact. For me GTA IV and Tlad, RDR, MP3, VC etc. are all better, GTA V is one of the weaker Rockstar games.

And its an open discussion forum, not just for people who love V but in general GTA fans.

Stop guys. IV x V ain't gonna lead anywhere, you will just ruin another topic.

@Topic: The dialogues with Trevor always make me laugh (he's more funny than psychotic actually) and Lamar is brilliant. He should've replaced Franklin in the ending like it was supposed to be.

Red Dead Redemption story was 1/10, not enough Trevor. And there are more than 3 characters I actually remember. Gross. Would not suggest.

If only John Marston had used the phrase "Yeah, whatever, dawg" multiple times, then it would have been masterfully written in my opinion.

Fuzz, I am not sure how this is all going to play out, and maybe we will all go back to attacking the "other game" that we are not a fan of. But it seems like the mods are really trying to get rid of offensive trolling posts, and they really cleaned this thread out NICELY last night. So my suggestion is we at least try to be civil. I am not exactly holding out a lot of hope, to be honest. But let's see if we can let the mods deal with the trolling/baiting posts and we just discuss the issues civilly at least for the time being.

You know what the problem is? Yes, you are correct. While I agree with you about HaRdSTyLe_83's post, the problem we have is that you guys only ever correct or admonish people on the other side of the debate. Not ONE IV fan had a problem with Officer620's blatant troll and baiting in this thread before a mod THANKFULLY removed it and some other offensive posts.

Look, can we PLEASE at least try not to be hypocrites. Everyone here seems to have partisan-blinders on. You only see and only call out people espousing opposing opinions, and most people either completely make excuses for trolling flaim-bait on "their own sides," or just ignore it.

I noticed that IV fans ONLY seem to call out Osho, Fuzz, Sonny, HaRdSTyLe_83, myself, and many others, but you all turn a blind eye or even justify tons of blatant trolls attacking not only V but the people who like the game.

"Hypocrisy, Franklin. Civilisation's Greatest Virtue."

This place in a nutshell...

V definitely is on the same level as IV when it comes to lines and dialogues. And the voice acting was top notch, too.

The dialogue of the protagonists and a few storyline characters is pretty well done, but the antagonists dialogues are below average.
