ELOSOJER
I posted a while back about how many of the characters were "Hit and Miss", Haines being one of the ones that missed. Since then, I've honestly changed my mind about him -- he's still nothing special, but I hardly look at him as an antagonist and more of what was mentioned earlier in the thread, a pest. The douche-like candor and the acting for the character are what make him (and Devon Weston for that matter) standout in my mind, but neither of their characters scream "BAD GUY" to me. They're like the "evil villains" that are portrayed in Disney or PG movies. Martin, however, had huge potential to be THAT guy, but meh. I don't dislike anything Rockstar did with Haines, to be fair. I just don't think that he was made to be thought of as the evil of Los Santos.
ChiroVette
Stretch is a good character IMO. A missed opportunity to make a great antagonist for Franklin and Lamar. ... Obviously wen something is awesome, like GTA V, SA, III, VCS, and LCS, you want more! Of course we want more. ... Uh, no. Not the case here. In this case, people just want more because we got next to nothing to begin with. Not because Stretch was some amazing character that we just can't get enough of. It's less "we want more!" and more "give us something. anything. please!" V has plenty of awesmeness! It is one of the best games in the franchise history. Rockstar really made an amazing game with this, in terms of story, gampeplay, freedom, much better map, and so much more to do. Snore is the game that is patently anemic, both lacking in engaging story and having about the most bland and uninteresting gameplay imaginable. V is such a huge step up from Snore, it is a testament to Rockstar's skill. So much so, I can totally give them a pass on Snore.

Raavi
Would you say Chiro's comments are more annoying than Roman's phone calls in GTA IV? Would you like to keep your posting privileges or would you like be sent on couple-week posting suspension? That goes for the lot of you, on either side of the argument. If this was the first time I had to warn for this, but it is the umpteenth time in a very short period of time. Complain about someone "trolling" one second, double down and bait them into the next. You are really ruining this for yourselves. If you really think the other guy is trolling, here's a crazy notion: Don't feed the what-you-believe-to-be troll, put them on ignore and move on. Next joker to not heed this warning and perpetuate the idiocy that seems to have infested this section risks a lengthy temp if not being adorned with busted stars. Sonny_Black
Not really because if I remember right he was not dangerous enough and honestly he was (as said previously) like a high school bully and I didnt like his characters, this guy was just too funny. Madrazo could have been THE antagonist because of the cartel and all that sh*t, sort of things that make you really sh*t in your pants. I mean this kind of guys IRL are really really dangerous and this is the business that you DONT WANT to go in lol. donnits
Steve should've turned "good" in the end, he was never a complete villain from what I remember. He was just sort of a dick, nothing truly villainous. It would've been more satisfying if he helped the trio out in the end or something. But he didn't, so i guess the trio had to tie up the loose end that he is. Why they didn't do it sooner, is beyond me. IMO, trash antagonist - I never wanted to kill him. I'd much rather seeing him getting busted, would make much more sense to kill him on the way they did it. In fact, if Trevor just up and went to murder him out of the blue after the Option C, why didn't he just killed him on the plenty of chances he had when they were alone with him before hand? I can even count them: -Three's a company; -By the book; -Monkey Business; -Survey the Paleto Score(or something like this); I think there were even more opportunities where he could kill him right away, then kill Andreas too and make Dave cover it up. CaptainBicycle
I don't think he was joking, Chiro. I mean, V is an amazing game for me too, but even I can see why someone could think of Stretch as a terrible villain. Why is it so hard for you? On-topic: Removing Weston and replacing his parts with Haines'. Also killing Stretch and maybe Cheng way earlier. For example, in Bury the Hatchet, have Haines find out about Michael and Trevor being alone in NY and send a squad to kill them without witnesses, then have Michael kidnapped by the FIB. Then Franklin rescues him and well, continue the game with Haines as the big bad. Journey_95

You missed the entire point I was bring up with Weazur. In no way was I saying Stretch was a great villain. Rather than clarify, you may want to re read my post, because I was NOT talking about Stretch at all, I was speaking about a broader concept. shqrk and pedinhuh, I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt this would get the thread locked. Not when we are "talking" to each other reasonably and actually making an attempt to see one another's points of view. Yes, it is off topic, but nobody is attacking each other, and this is the ONLY kind of meaningful dialog that I can honestly see bringing about some kind of a resolution to this forum conflict. WavyWeazel
On a side note, for someone who claims to dislike IV, you sure do bring it up a lot. Is there something you're hiding from us Chiro? Look, obviously you have good sense of humor. I respect that. But when you guys attack the game and make jokes and jests, why can't I do the same thing back? Fair enough. My point was only that I wished to see more for Stretch as a character. I didn't mean to come off as bashing V altogether.

Annoying - ultimately harmless, not sure when he became an immediate threat/ antagonist to the trio that they needed to get rid of him in the last mission,

If I misinterpreted what you were trying to say, I apologize. lol I think we are all a little kind of "sitting here with our fingers on the trigger" because there is so much "rank out" stuff going back and forth. lol Is "rank out" still a word or am I totally dating myself now? Well, if it is a term that still has meaning, I think that what's going on is that everyone in the forum is in rank out mode. Everyone is trying to rank each other out here, and instead of doing it at each other personally, we are "ranking out" the opposing game. lol Edited February 29, 2016 by ChiroVette

My thoughts exactly. They kind of pulled the rug out from under him when they showed him do a good thing, but then have Dave in the helicopter still say it was a selfish move. The guy shot himself for the group to get away, that's kind of heroic. I truly believe he should've completed his character arc into being that dickface, but still a good man in the end. Either have him help the trio, or just cut ties with them in a respectful way. IIIIIMMMOOOO

Do most of you not pay attention to what's going on in the story, and then complain about something not making sense? It's been a while since I replayed through the story, but here's what I remember: Michael's Jewelry Heist stunt raises suspicion that he is still alive Dave Norton has files about Michael Dave's new boss, Steve Haines finds out about all this Michael's under-the-table witness protection is threatened, and if he's going to keep it he needs to do Steve Haines' dirty work FIB and IAA have their funding dispute thing going on, lots of dirty sh*t being done Sure Dave doesn't like Haines too much, but Agent Sanchez was around most of the time as well Killing Haines at any point would easily turn some heads, especially Sanchez's, and fingers could easily be pointed at the trio As the story goes on things become increasingly strained between the three protagonists, mostly Michael and Trevor, and this peaks towards the end. The only times they successfully work together are during heists, and Ending C where they finally decide to drop everything and get sh*t done for themselves. Everything else in between is a sh*t show Even after they are done doing sh*t for Haines, it is mentioned that the FIB is investigating him and keeping a close eye on him, killing him is even less reasonable at this point. It's assumed that towards the end of the game the FIB is no longer keeping such a close eye on Haines because of the evidence destroyed by Michael and Franklin in the FIB raid, and he is not seeing any repercussions whatsoever, back to filming his show around the time of Ending C. Even after the Kortz shootout incident, Steve Haines has become extremely paranoid. It's safe to say he'd be prepared if Michael, Franklin, or Trevor came after him. Though, this may have changed considering Dave Norton changes Haine's mind, and they ultimately decide Trevor is the only threat - approaching Franklin and telling him that he needs to kill Trevor After the Kortz shootout Haines is keeping his distance from Michael and Trevor, and the trio is generally tied up with everything else going on Ending C: The trio sets up an ambush at the refinery. The FIB is sent as well as Merryweather by Devin, against all odds Michael, Trevor, and Franklin make it out alive. At this point Steve Haines/the FIB and Devin assume that the trio is dead. This is highlighted by the fact that when Trevor arrives at Devin's he is then just learning that the Merryweather goons sent to the refinery were killed. This window of opportunity gives Michael, Trevor, and Franklin the chance to get the jump on Steve Haines and Devin Weston, and now that they are no longer at each other's throats, they can easily pull off this coordinated attack in a small time frame so neither one is alerted of the other one's assassination and things get bad.
